Gertrude's - Phoenix
Perfect patio table for 12. We had a great waiter, excellent food and enjoyed the great weather and beautiful gardens. We loved the amazing hospitality!
the salmon salad was awful. There were no grean beans, few olives, and a smidgen of salmon. I was very disappointed. For the cost, poor quality was not a good experience. I am a long time supporter of the gardens, and this was truly a let down. I will not bring others hear for lunch.
Delicious food. We each (3) ordered the same thing. The salmon on the salad was a different amount for each of us.
We had reservations since it is a busy time at the Botanical Gardens. We had a great spot on the patio. Brought guests in from out of town. They loved the food but were a little intimidated by the menu and the desert choices! Beautiful place and great food!
Came here during our trip to the botanical gardens. Service and drinks here were great. We had a delicious charcuterie type appetizer that I recommend. I ordered the salad and tomato soup for my main, and was disappointed. The salad was average and the soup tasted like Ragu tomato sauce. Overpriced for the location and tourist spot, but nice outdoor dining.
Loud interior space also rather confining without much visual interest.
Food was nothing to be raving just so so .
I think it’s definitely about convenient to a trip to garden .
The Botanical Garden is a great place to visit, we try to hit it every year around this time.
My wife saw Gertrude's as an option, so we hit it before journeying through the gardens.
The food is good, service a little slow, but the environment and surroundings were great.
lovely evening and wonderful food, drinks and staff. Nice to take a stroll around the gardens after dinner.
Service was great and the atmosphere was amazing. Food was mediocre. Not worth the price.
First time to Gertrude's for a birthday lunch after a couple of hours in the gardens.
WELCOME & SEATING: Poor. We arrived on 2.16.20 about 10 minutes before our scheduled seating. There was no one else in line or waiting. The two young women at the desk were talking about tables and took a full 3 minutes to acknowledge us. They didn't smile. Training is needed for the hostess staff / manager to simply pause, welcome guests and let them know they'll be just a minute. It may seem small, but standing at the desk for 3 minutes was awkward. When being seated, there were several tables in the shade. She tried to seat us at a table in full sun. Appreciated that she asked "is this ok?". I responded, that we'd been in the gardens for 2 hours and would prefer a table in the shade. She offered us a table by the live musician. I suggested one a bit farther away so that we could have conversation over lunch. She obliged. I appreciate the need to distribute guests in service areas to balance the load on the wait staff and kitchen but it didn't feel very well thought out.
SERVICE: Awesome. Our waiter was attentive, professional and well informed on the menu. He was great. Food was delivered quickly (under 30 minutes).
FOOD: Average when ordering breakfast or hamburger eating a standard American diet. For diet conscience (e.g. vegan or vegetarian) I wouldn't return. I don't think the menu planner or chef understands the spirit behind it. Too much salt, oil dripping potatoes and over dressed salads.
Brought my wife here for Valentines Day. They gave all ladies roses that came in, which was pretty awesome. Food was good, adult drinks were strong, and service was on top of everything.
Our Valentine dinner was outstanding! The service was classy, the food and beverages were delicious making the experience was very memorable. We have a new Valentine tradition!!
Favorite spot in the valley. Can't make it often due to the prices being a bit high. Overall, great place for special occasions.
The garden area is beautiful. The restaurant is spotless. The waiters are knowledgeable and friendly.
The music (singer) wasn't great nor necessary. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
Food was delicious and service was just what you would want with helpful suggestions/recommendations and staying on top of the drinks! (Thank-you Kristen! :) ) All around a wonderful evening. We will definitely be adding this to our "Regular Spot" list!
Perfect! Wish we still had the fountain ‘
We love going to Gertrude's! The food is delicious and the service is great!! We try something new every time and everything we have tried has been amazing! 💗
Our server was outstanding and recommended the fried cauliflower with shitzo peppers. It was absolutely delicious. Great service, great food and very good beer selection.
Very nice place for lunch on the patio with friends, nice menu!
Love Gertrude’s. Service excellent. The salmon salad is amazing. Great place after a stroll through the garden for lunch and a glass of wine on the patio.
A must visit when you come to Phoenix! Excellent food, service, and ambiance- highly recommend!
Beautiful day so we dined outdoors. Nice experience.
We are visiting Arizona from out of town and decided to lunch here and visit the Desert Botanical Garden after a whirlwind trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. We couldn’t have picked a better place. We sat outside which was well shaded but offered views of cacti. The food is locally sourced and tasted it - so fresh. I had the smoked salmon salad which was perfectly dressed and very satisfying despite being “light.” My companion had the polenta - a vegetarian dish - and enjoyed it too. We also split a cup of tomato soup - very tasty. The wine list was extensive, as was the craft beer and cocktail list. Service was attentive and not overbearing. A great choice!
Always enjoy dining at Gertrude’s, and eat outside whenever possible. Food is consistently delicious and you can’t beat the setting.
Lovely atmosphere and nice wines. The food was so so but the service was pleasant and I ordered custom serving so that impacted quality due to vegetarian request. Lovely experience. Hope the work on more options for vegetarians.
Restaurant is LOUD. Don't play music at all. Otherwise great experience
Had dinner after an enjoyable afternoon photographing the special exhibit. The tomato soup was yummy and the donuts were to die for.
Lovely setting, great food. Always a fun place to entertain out of town friends. Just A++!
Interesting menu selection, great location. Less than stellar service.
We had Sunday brunch to celebrate a couple of family birthdays and completely enjoyed the food and our surroundings. the music was outstanding. Highly recommend
Very good as usual. I always bring out of town guests.
Fabulous venue to walk in at sunset and walk out with the lighted Palo Verde trees. Definitely destination for anybody traveling to Phoenix or living in Phoenix. Plenty of parking and dining ranging from casual to elegant.
First of all the service was amazing and I found the food to be very good. The prices are on the high side but not out of line with the quality of food or the location. I would highly recommend this place!
Overpriced, although the food was good. ($11.00 for a relatively small bowl of posole that didn't have much pork in it.)
Good for all occasions. Lovely patio with heaters. They have just refreshed the outside area. Outside is much more relaxed and quiet. Get a reservation. You can take a walk before or after dinner Desert botanical gardens is breathtaking. There are several Chihuly glass art pieces there as well.
Great afternoon for a relaxed lunch, good food, outdoor patio setting. Perfect weather but some tables were using patio heaters.
The outdoor seating was comfortable, close to pleasant 70's music performed by a guitarist. Drinks were mixed; Sangria was tasty with diced apples, Mimosa seems void of Champagne, third drink order was not correct. Service was very slow. Ordered 2 appetizers, got one. Birthday guest ordered the burger which she said was very good. I requested my Eggs Benedict to be pouched well, and they were cooked easy. The Salmon Salad was ok. We ordered dessert, and coffee. Coffee arrived in 10 minutes or so, dessert took another 10/15 minutes. Birthday guest was served something that looked like a donut with chocolate syrup poured over it.
The Botanical Gardens are beautiful treasure for Phoenicians. We were really surprised that Gertrude's didn't measure up to the beauty of the Desert Botanical Gardens.; there was very little detail to service (ie- remove appetizer plates before next course, oil/vinegar bottles still on table when we left) , plate presentation and wait-staff training/uniforms.
Great place for brunch! Sit on the patio and enjoy the scenery!
Small menu but good options. Service was lacking
