Gertrude's - Phoenix
I always love dining here. The food is excellent and the ambiance is wonderful. The Desert Botanical Garden makes a perfect backdrop for your meal and the menu puts a good spin on traditional items without overdoing it. Lots of vegan, gluten free items too!
Although our server was helpful, the food was not good. My salad was banal and friend's dish unexceptional. there are practically no vegetarian options. A big disappointment.
We were unhappy with our outside seating arrangement.
Even though there were empty
tables, we were denied our quest
for a table for 2. Instead we got a
table for 4 in a very poor location.
We dined on the patio which was shaded, and with a light breeze, very comfortable for a May early evening. Service was efficient, and our server was knowledgeable a and gracious. The food was presented beautifully and it was as delicious as it looked.
My two dinner companions had the same great enjoyment of the food/service that I did. Delicious ginger-dressing for the "house" salad. Good portions, too.
Our waiter - Tavo - was superb. The food was fine and ambiance is also fine. A very pleasant way to spend the early evening before the Ballet AZ performance in the garden.
A great place to relax and cool off after a visit to the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix or (as in our case) to enjoy a quality meal prior to Ballet in the Desert. The service was top notch with all the staff conscientiously attentive to our needs. The deliver of food was very fast and our drinks were always full. The food was very good and reasonable value. We will definitely go back!
The food and the service were both excellent.
They were great we were early for a reservation and they had us out on the patio where I had requested the menu’s a little bit different than what we are used to but it was very interesting and a fun night-
Beautiful surroundings of the gardens... along with a great food and drink menu. We really enjoyed our outdoor dining experience. :)
This used to be an amazing "foodie" restaurant...what happened?
My husband and I had dinner here for Mother's Day before seeing the light show. I had the smoked salmon salad and he had the duck. Both were excellent and very good sized portions. It was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. We sat outside which was also great. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. We will diffidently go back.
Mothers Day Brunch 💐 Breakfast fried rice and kid’s cheeseburger were winners. Would go back once a week to walk the garden and have the food at Gertrude’s 😍
Always a favorite of ours and a special occasion destination. Michele and front desk are always so accommodating.
While musician was enjoyable, combined with the crowd noise made it difficult to communicate with table mates.
The service and food is always outstanding. Taking my mother her for mother’s day brunch was the best decision I could have made for a wonderful day with her.
Great place for Mother's Day Brunch!! Server's were attentive and helpful food was delicious.
Service was horrible. The waiter seemed in a hurry. He was not very attentive and was short when we asked questions. We had to wait for ages to get refills on our drink, than he brought the wrong wine out and seemed annoyed with us. Everyone has a bad day but if you can be friendly with others because you hope you get a bigger tip out of a table with more people, than clearly there is something wrong with the picture.
Service was good but food was cold and lacked seasoning. The corn fritter appetizers were over fried and extremely hard but the donuts for dessert were under cooked, doughy in the middle. Plate presentation was very nice. The jalapeno margaritas were fantastic! Enjoyed sitting on the patio!
Fantastic food, great service, and an amazing setting! Thank you for a lovely dining experience.
Service and food was impeccable!!
A great venue for dining: Outside at the botanical garden. Imaginative food with outstanding service.
Beautiful venue. Food is great. A little pricey, but worth it as an occasional splurge.
Two of our party had the Smoked Salmon Benedict. One loved it, the other didn't like the grilled (?) arugula. I had Gertrude's Benedict which I loved.
The guitarist was playing too loud which was annoying. The service was very slow.
Our experience was excellent!! Our service was marvelous from beginning to end! The food was refreshing, new and enjoyable with well thought out ambiance
I recommend this place to any out-of-towners! Incredible location and ambiance, lovely restaurant. Dishes use local ingredients with global influence. Yummy cocktails.
We requested a patio table weeks ago and were told it wouldn't be available for another hour even though there were empty tables on the patio. The noise level inside makes it almost impossible to talk. The selection of food on the menu is very limited. We won't go back or recommend it to others.
If you eat here, at least get a table outside. Inside is unbearably noisy, as are so many restaurants these days, making conversation impossible. The food is mediocre at best. The night we were there, it was very busy and understaffed. The service from our waiter was poor. He never checked back to see if we needed anything, or if the food was ok. He brought us the check without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. It felt like he was too busy to care. I've had lunch or a snack in the back garden many times, because you're a captive there if you're visiting the Desert Botanical Garden. It's ok for lunch or a drink. But I would suggest eating elsewhere for dinner, and then visiting the garden either before or after your meal.
Great time as alway, food service everything. Butternut squash soup was delicious
The ambience was nice. The service was good. But the food was just ok and while I loved that they have Arizona wines on the menu, the two reds we tried were served lukewarm.
Food selection is unique, delicious and in large portion. A bit noisy but acceptable. Wonderful ambience and we had a great server. Expensive but worth the treat.
We sat on the patio close to the fountain and the beautiful geraniums. We were so glad. The inside was extremely noisy and would have been extremely uncomfortable for us.
Excellent ambiance, service and food (roasted vegetables were very tasty).
Shrimp Risotto and Scallops were very bland
Tuna was good
Beef and Boar very good
Kind of a small menu. Not a lot to pick from. And we sat outside and the flies we very annoying
Service was good
As always, Gertrude’s is a great restaurant with the most outstanding scenery! We had the shrimp risotto, wild boar and a grain salad! Bread is outstanding and a must are the donut holes for dessert!!!!!
Captured clients, trying to be upscale but not quiet making it. Location does not justify expene. Menue does not reflect A casual family or friends excursion in the Gardens.
We had lovely dinner outside before Electric Desert experience. The corn fritter starter was outstanding. Liked the steak with grilled cactus too. Some good Arizona wines by the glass too. Friendly and professional service. Outdoor patio is beautiful
The restaurant is just inside the entrance to Desert Botanical Garden. We had an early dinner before visiting a special evening exhibit in the garden. We could not get a reservation on the patio but our indoor table was just adjacent to the open wall to the patio, so we had the patio view with the cool indoor air. Our server, Carlos, was quick to our table, attentive and informative. The cocktail I ordered was a bit sweet to me. The wine list included many Arizona wines which was fun. Wish I had got the flight of wine instead of the Tombstone Lit cocktail. I did have a glass of the Merkin red blend with dinner though. We had the scallop entree and Shrimp risotto. Both were lovely presentations and very tasty, interesting flavors thoughtfully prepared. The scallops were enormous and the simple shrimp plentiful. Generous portions! Considering some negative reviews I read, my expectations were far surpassed. Too bad we were too full for dessert and eager to hit the Desert Trail. The donut holes with dipping sauce were very tempting. Maybe next time!
GREAT FOOD, FANTASTIC SERVICE, RECOMMEND HIGHLY GREAT PRELUDE TO VIEWING THE LIGHT AT DESERT BONTANTICAL GARDENS
We had a GREAT lunch. Always good food and a nice atmosphere. :)
