Gertrude's - Phoenix

Daily 4:00 pm–8:00 pm
Our waitress at Gertrude's was the best! She attended to us without hovering -- great suggestions and memory. I'm sorry I don't recall her name. She had light hair and glasses, tall, I think.
They were not flexible in changing our table from outside to inside. No heaters outside and it was pretty chilly outside at 50 degrees.
It was a very cold uncomfortable evening because they didn't have the heaters out yet. The duck was dry and a bit stringy, hot chicken thighs not very hot. Vegetarian dish was below average. I have eaten here 4 times since becoming a member of the gardens and in the future I will stick to drinks only. The food just isn't up to par. I have been disappointed each time. Service can be very slow also.
Our go to place for Sunday Brunch or special occasions
The menu is very weird. We couldn't find anything that looked like we would like it, but when we saw food trays come out it all looked wonderful. I think they could describe it better in the menu. It was actually very good -- and fresh fresh veggies!!
Beautiful location and great waitstaff. Outdoor seating was lovely and comfortable.
Unique cocktail choices and my meal was fabulous but my husband had brussel sprouts that
were well undercooked. Also a bit pricey.
Had a great time seeing my friends play music while my family and I ate brunch. Good times!
Typical weird Scottsdale wanna be fancy restaurant menu but great patio to enjoy the scenery of the Desert Botanical Garden.
Great food and great location.
I enjoyed the outdoor dining. The service was exceptional.
While in a lovely setting and convenient to the Desert Botanical Gardens, the food and wine are overpriced, uninspired limited choices which lack flavor, and waitstaff who seem to just make up answers and are more interested in getting the next guests seated than fostering a relaxed and enjoy able meal.
The DesertBotanical Garden at night is a romantic place to dine outdoors and Gertrude’s does not disappoint in that department. The lights and sounds of Electric Desert made it even more special. I reccomend the Cactus Cosmo made with prickly pear. The vegetables are fresh and interestly combined.
We had dinner before going to the Electric Desert. The ambiance was fantastic as we sat on the patio in perfect weather. Beautiful. Menu seemed rather limited to me. I had the vegan grits and the portion was large and well prepared. Bread and butter is offered as an additional item at $7 and not included with the meal. Overall lovely dining.
Wonderful spot to eat while at the Desert Botanical Gardens. We explored the gardens them had dinner before doing the light show.
Great dining. Love the choices. Love the focus on local produce. Could be spiced stronger. My risotto was good, but not spicy. The shrimp in the dish were cooked perfectly - thank you. My husband’s braised beef was excellent.
Overpriced and food was tough to chew. Don ‘t waste your money.
I wouldn’t go if I wasn’t going to the Gardens. The menu options seem very scaled down compared to the past. Also, the beet salad was basically a handful of arugula and a quartered beet with a few chopped nuts. Nothing my son wouldn’t put together for me at home. I was disappointed because I am a Garden member and suggested dinner with my friend. Probably won’t return.
I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with our entire experience. Hosted party of six. Have not had worse food anywhere in Phoenix. And we eat out most days. Our group tried to taste a variety. Sad to say the deep fried dish was the best. Will never return. Which is sad because we’re members and would like to have a spot to host other guests. Complaining is not my nature but sharing for honesty. Thanks.
Very good meal at Gertrudes. Was very busy, but our waiter was great, and the food top notch
We had the Elote fritters which I admit filled me up before my dinner of braised beef, which was really good. Only downside was our tiny table was in a high traffic path. They have squeezed too many tables into the inside space. Otherwise a great night.
We have enjoyed everything about Gertrude's in the past - sitting on the patio, fresh tasty food, friendly and unobtrusive service. This trip we were disappointed in the food. Everything (hamburger, chicken, scallops) was overcooked. We will back again when we visit the garden, but will stick with the salads.
Outstanding atmosphere with outdoor patio. Great for al fresco dining. Outstanding food and cocktails. Margaritas are the best my wife and I have ever had! Brad, our waiter was outstanding, very personable and knowledgeable
Service was awful!! The order came out wrong and we couldn’t get a waiters attention for over 15 minutes. Food was cold. Choices were limited. Too bad because we used to love this restaurant.
We sat outside on the patio but still heard quite a bit of noise from bar area. The food was very creative, tasty and used local fresh ingredients. Our waiter was attentive and gave great recommendations. Lovely evening.
Great food and service. Definitely worth the drive.
Food was a huge disappointment. We had eaten here in the past and thought the food was very good. The Korean chicken thighs were so hot they were almost inedible - this from someone who enjoys spices hot food. The shrimp risotto was not a true risotto. The rice was barely cooked and covered in a nondescript red sauce. Dhhtimp was served on the side and was ok.
Gertrude’s is located at the desert botanical gardens. Gorgeous setting, amazing food, and great service!
One of my all time Scottsdale restaurants! Great service, unique culinary dishes, spectacular outdoor ambience! The staff always goes the extra mile to make it a special dining experience!
Here for brunch. Usually get American breakfast, which has always come out exactly as ordered. This time, went with breakfast fried rice, which was outstanding. Server was very patient with admonitions about no onions/scallions, and was very attentive. Great way to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
Enjoyable dining experience. Good selection, interesting options, beautiful presentation
This is a great place to come anytime but mixed with a trip to the garden it's a full fun evening out. The food is great and the service is 5 star as well! It's not your cheap night out but well worth every penny!
NOT a fine dining restaurant. Ordered a hamburger and it was served raw in the middle. Probably used a frozen patty and failed to check the internal temperature. If they can’t make a hamburger, imagine what their other enterees are like!! VERY, VERY POOR.
Very comfortable restaurant with food that is extremely creative and local. Great to eat outside and relax. Overall it is the restaurant I would definitely recommend , especially for people visiting the Garden or a Garden event.
Amazing food and service. Attention to detail showcasing from start to finish. Hats off to the chef and staff. My parents go there several times a month and I now know why..!
I thought the quality of the food was not on par with the prices they charge. The fritters were dry and the sweet potato gnochi was doughy.
One of our entrees had to be returned because it was inedible and did not have the ingredients as shown on the menu. The other entree had shrimp that were under cooked and even with multiple seasonings the dinners lacked depth and was poor tasting. I don't know who the combination of ingredients and different dishes on this menu appeals to but there is no "comfort food" on the menu. Even the burger is of poor quality.
This is our third time returning to Gertrude's in the last six months and we shall not go back. Each time the quality of the food has been poor and there has been no attempt by the manager to make amends for the poor quality.
Food was very poor and expensive for the quality. All four of our party felt the same thing
The staff was very friendly and helpful! The food was just sort of meh on flavor. I had the shrimp risotto, and the Three Sister soup. Both were fairly tasty but hardly worth the high price tag. The soup was simply butternut squash soup with some toasted beans in it. Although tasted fine, was just boring. The shrimp were cooked blandly but ok, the risotto had a layer of oil on top that was quite unappetizing.
Again, not a bad restaurant at all, just needs more pop in the food to make it worth the price tag.
Gertrude's is a lovely restaurant that I always enjoy when I visit the botanical garden. The evening we were there was particularly enjoyable because we were seated on the patio, and the weather was perfect. We just had soft drinks with our meal, and my dinner partner mentioned to me later that hers tasted flat, and that was why she did not drink it. I told her she should have mentioned it to the waiter, but she is one not to complain about anything. We both enjoyed our meals and hope to eat there again the next time she is in town.
The menu was interesting but the food wasn’t. Flavor we expected from descriptions just wasn’t there.
