At Geronimo, located in New Haven, Connecticut, enjoy savory comfort foods in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Its simple, rustic, country-style décor is accented by wood furniture, torch sconces, antler chandeliers over large tables and longhorn skulls on the walls throughout. Sit at the long covered porch seating, which is reminiscent of an old farmhouse cabin. Brunch is served every Sunday, while the full saloon-style bar offers up all the beers, cocktails and other spirits you could want for a night out with friends. Geronimo's plentiful menu features Southwest classics like braised short ribs, pan-crisped elk meatloaf and the spicy bacon burger. Geronimo's regular guests also rave about Mexican-inspired favorites like tacos, burritos and specialties like the table-side guacamole and salsa.
The service was great when we asked our server what he would recommend he was very knowledgeable. The food was fantastic along with the margaritas. We will definitely be returning.
Great food and drinks, authentic ingredients.
Great place to grab a bite or drink with friends. Not a place to go for an exceptional dining experience.
Geronimo is a winner when it comes to tequila-based drinks. But the food is worthwhile, too. Nothing fancy, just well-executed Mexican/Southwest fare.
The restaurant has the best tequila selection around. The drink menu is very well rounded. The food was great and the outdoor patio is very nice. We will definitely be back.
Enjoyed the outdoor seating. Everyone was friendly and the food was delicious. I got the veggie tacos and we split veggie nachos, they were both great ! Hugo was a fun and witty server. This will be my go to spot next time I'm in the New Haven area !
The Incan Goddess margarita was too die for - so many choices and so much jalapeno-infused tequila. The table-side guacamole was spiced to perfection and extra fresh. Loved my tamales as well. Great experience!
Great outdoor dining, great menu and good service
Geronimo has great things to eat and a wide selection of tequilla. Unfortunately it was so loud and so hot in the back of the restaurant
A local place for a quality time. Would not put on a must see list, but if your in the area and want mexican, its there.
Second time here...ambiance keeps getting better. The outdoor seating area is quite unique...instead of being next to the street, guests are elevated and the outdoor seating area has an awning...very attractive and appealing area. The food is Tex-Mex...I appreciated being able to order a small or large plate. Being a part-time vegetarian depending on the day, I would recommend that this restaurant include on its menu cheese enchiladas and more non-meat/fish choices.
Probably the best guacamole anywhere around. Mahimahi tacos just great. Spicy bloody Mary (with tequila - not vodka) just right. Santa Fe margarita very, very well done. I look forward to my next visit.
Our server, Elizabeth, was excellent. Appetizers and entree variety and selections were very very good. Service was well timed. Atmosphere very comfortable. I am usually cold at restaurants but was very comfortable at Geronnimo's. Not enough dessert selection for gluten and alcohol free diners. Disappointed. What happened to rice pudding? Overall, very good but left without dessert and coffee.
At the insistence of my friend we made reservations for a Thursday night. Worried about parking, we arrived about 30 minutes early- they managed to seat us right away. The cocktails we ordered were fantastic; the Spicy Blood Orange margarita was made with tequila that has the perfect infusion of jalapeño. The food, was amazing as well- fried jalapeño slices and onion strips, not overly greasy, just right, and very crispy. I ordered a burger and my friend a quinoa dish, both were great. We shared a tres leches, a delicious treat. We'll definitely be back!
Delicious Mexican food in a lovely setting. Start with the table side guacamole- pricey- but delicious! The braised short ribs could have been a bit moister but we're tasty and served on a delicious pile of grits. The chicken quesadilla was a hit. Nice selection of cocktails- the strawberry mojito was very good and outside dining in nice weather. A neighborhood gem!
Reservation was made for 9pm. Arrived early and by 10 our table still was not ready. Ended up being seated in a crowded noisy area.
Service and drinks were good, food was mediocre
Table-side quacamole is fabulous and the margaritas are awesome. It's a loud, lively place - almost better for a group of friends than a romantic dinner for two.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That's Geronimo. Best margaritas! Best selection of fine and rare tequilas. Best custom-made guacamole! (We like ours no onions, extra spicy!) Diverse menu. Wide and creative selection, even if you're not feeling Tex-Mex. Excellent, attentive service. Highly recommend and not to be missed during the New Haven Jazz Festival.
We received a welcome greeting upon arrival, were seated at a fun table, the restaurant had a great feel initially but later it became too loud to hear ourselves speak. Our waiter was pleasant, he recommended a very good wine but the food was very disappointing. There was also a very strong smell of onion which came from the guacamole which was made at everyone's table. The guacamole was, for my taste, too mushy. The desserts, on the other hand, were delicious. Unfortunately, we went for the main course, so we will not be returning.
I've always enjoyed this spot... You get exactly what you picture. Good food and margaritas with a pretty cool scene.
The food was fabulous and the atmosphere was so conducive for talking and connecting with friends. We stayed for over two hours and never felt rushed. Our server created a very welcoming environment for us. We'll be back soon!
The best homemade guacamole anywhere! Made fresh in front of you every time you order. Selections are great, whether you are hungry, or just stopping by for one of 300 or so different tequilas. Great outside front porch dining year round; with large heaters on the ceiling for those cold days and nights. We even ate there New Years Eve! The staff is very cordial and aims to please. For the tequila lovers, there is a different one on sale everyday of the week!
I had heard of the restaurant before and he w good it was and I was very impressed. Our waiter was funny and very attentive. My spicy passion fruit margarita was so delicious. Housemade guacamole best I had ever had and Hanger steak quesadilla was excellent. I would definitely go back.
The food was good although the portions were small. The lobster enchelada had very little Lobster meat and for $26 I feel you should see some chunks of lobster. I probably will not go back due to the price factor. Also I had to pay $8 to park my car in a private lot.
On a bright note our waiter was amazing. If you go ask for Hugo.
Had another great meal at Geronimo. The outdoor patio is lovely.
I had vegetarian tamales with fried onions and jalepenos and black beans.
Everything was very good. It was a Tuesday and the service was very fast.
I also had a very nice margarita called the karmaberry.
Great food. Our service was great too and it was fun.
But it's very loud. Just know it's not a place to go if you want to have a real conversation.
Very fun and energetic place, spicy food but delicious. Love the atmosphere and vibe
We went here with the family and loved everything about it! We will definitely go back!
I used to love drinking margaritas on the patio at this place. The margaritas are still good, but the food isn't that great. Aside from the awesome guacamole (made at the table) the place just isn't as great as I remember. There was no drink menu on our table and as soon as we ordered drinks our server asked if he could take it back for another table. We all ordered different variations of tacos and they were okay, but I've had much better. I would suggest this place for margaritas and guacamole and that's about it.
While I enjoy the food and margaritas here, the service is so horrible it nearly negates the positive aspects of this restaurant. Margaritas run around $10 each, which is a bit pricey, but the food is reasonably priced and there's vegetarian and gluten-free options. It's near impossible to get a table on weekends because they are packed, but making a reservation doesn't matter. They overbook and rush you, and clearly don't understand how to use the reservation system. We had a 7:30 reservation and were informed at 8:45 our table was part of a party of 14 coming in so we could "shift to the bar." We ended up leaving with our margaritas still on the table because there was no space at the bar, which is why we had reserved a table.
I made a reservation but when we arrived there was nowhere for us to sit. So they came up with a spot. We were put on a "crate-like" table jammed in the corner between the bar and outdoor railing. We were unable to move from our seats and there was no room for our food. Our server was great. Food was terrific. I just wish we were at a more comfortable roomy table for our meal and the amount we paid.
I had a great time dining with a small group of friends at Geronimo this weekend. We loved sitting on the patio, which is beautiful and relaxing, but we also felt slightly cramped--we commented on how the restaurant likely fits a few too many chairs out there in efforts to profit off of as many customers as possible. The servers and other customers had to squeeze past our table every time they passed, which inconvenienced us a little, too. Regardless, I love Geronimo for its drinks, atmosphere and fry bread (my favorite thing on the menu so far) and still highly recommend it.
Ten minutes before Happy Hour (5-7) and a Clint Eastwood movie (closed captions) over the bar made for a nice beginning to our meal at Geronimo. We moved to a seat on the porch and enjoyed the Mahi-Mahi tacos, the Three Cheese Rellenos and the Smoked Chicken Quesadilla. All were flavored nicely and created the perfect outdoor dining experience. The margaritas and tequila mojitos are good companions to the authentic flavors.
IMPORTANT: To enjoy the food, do not start with the huge (and expensive) bowl of Chips and Guacamole.
We have always had positive experiences here. The drinks are great, and the service is very good. Try the table side guocamole.
A fun energetic restaurant with delicious margaritas and great food. We split a few appetizers and it was a good amount of food for 4 people. A good place for dinner then night life.
The food was ... different -- my flatbread was dry -- not the bread, but the vegetables and chicken on top of it. The "tableside" guacamole was not prepared at the tableside, at least not where I could see it. Felt rushed by the server. Love the vibe in the restaurant, although not so much in the back room where we were seated. May try again but probably not.
Although very loud the night we visited, we were soon distracted from the background noise by the menu and drink and tequila list. Everything we ordered was top notch - from the elk/buffalo chili sampler to the skirt steak. Casa Noble flight was excellent.
Service was very attentive and not stretched too thin. Must return soon...
I love the menu here. There were so many great, unusual options. The tableside guacamole was delicious, as was the Navajo frybread and tamales. The service was wonderful. Our waitress really paid attention to us and paced our courses. This was a refreshing change from places that try to rush you out the door. Great, fun place to hang out.
Good food, good flavor, pretty strong service. Overall, a good Mexican alternative to the authentic food trucks and Wallingford corridor. Fish tacos slightly disappointing...as was the butternut mash. Table side guac is a must. Very loud - especially in the back room. Good spot. Know what you're getting when booking.
We had a wonderful time! The service was excellent, we never had to wait. Never felt rushed. Food was great. Have been for lunch many times, but it's been a while since I'd been for dinner, and am now looking forward to the next time!
