Geranio Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good and perfect for restaurant week. Service was average. They didn't have our table ready when we arrived, but were friendly and attentive during the meal. The decor could use some updating, but then the clientele seemed to skew older than our group. I would bring my parents and grandparents when they are in town, but would not come here again with friends or on a date night.
We went for Restaurant Week and were very excited about the menu. Overall the food and staff were good- clearly very busy with it being Restaurant Week. I had made reservation and they said "they were overbooked" but could seat us at a small table. We were fine with that but then the hostess came back twice to ask if we had a reservation and what the name on the reservation was. The next day I received an email from Opentable saying "Sorry we missed you at Geranio" when I had told them three times the name on my reservation. My one comment about the food was that the lamb was overcooked and a small portion but again it being Restaurant Week I was impressed at the number of plate they were cranking out.
Felt rushed from the moment we sat down. The waiter hovered around until we felt we had to place our order. We hardly put our forks down between courses. We got our dessert and bill at the same time.
There were 4 tables of patrons. I was not pleased with the rush.
We were visiting the area for a wedding and went to the Open Table app to find somewhere to have dinner. Really lucked out finding this quaint, quiet spot. The service, food, wine, etc. were all wonderful! Had the mussels for an appetizer, seared scallops and shrimp for my entree. My dining partner had the seafood risotto. Everything was so good and it was such a relaxing and enjoyable meal. We both agreed that if we were ever in the Alexandria area again, we would dine here again!
Once again Geranio's does not falter. Chef Troy and his staff are a class act. The food leaves you wanting more, not because of the portion size (which by the way is substantial) but because it is that good. Treat yourself to this place, you will not be disappointed.
Despite seeing mixed reviews of the service, we found the service to be attentive, timely, and unobtrustive. Water glasses were filled timely, and orders were taken at proper intervals. The food was a bit disappointing, just average despite our ordering a mixture of specials and items on the menu. The restaurant wasn't full on a Saturday night, and the sound level was quite good, easy to converse.
The food was as good as any we've had in the past year in Old Town. Imaginative and delicious, with generous portions. The service was a bit spotty (we went very early; it was not crowded)... and the rooms could use some aesthetic refreshing. But. The food was SO good that I know we'll go back again and again. The occasion was very personal and special; having an excellent meal made it more so.
The veal chop special is not to be missed. Everything was great from salad of golden beets thru the chicken dish and veal chop we had. Service was very good once the waiter understood we did not want the main dish plates cleared while one of us was still eating. The wine list is exceptional with a range of prices.
This is one of our favorite places in Alexandria.
This was the first time I've had some disappointment with Geranio. We went on a Saturday night for an anniversary celebration. The reservation was at 7 pm and the restaurant was swamped. The volume was too heavy and our order appeared to get lost.
The service was friendly and the waiter apologized for the slowness. The food was very good as always.
The food was so fabulous at Geranios, and the staff was very pleasant. My picky 16 year-old son said it was one of the best meals he had ever had. My husband and I had the shrimp and scallop risotto and we wanted to lick our plates. My husband also had the gnocchi appetizer and it was amazing. We ended our meals with tiramisu which was the best I have ever had. Will definitely be back.
First time at Geranio, and it was a great experience. Out-of-town guests raved about the food, and the atmosphere is cozy and friendly. The service was attentive but not pushy. We sampled everything from salads to desserts and didn't find anything to complain about. Very nice!
I love how relaxed the atmosphere feels. We visited this restaurant after our wedding. It is located in Old Town Va. on King Street, which has a free trolley service that has a stop in front of the restaurant. It is perfect for special occasions. Geranio's was amazing. The food was tasted authentic and rich in flavor. All staff was very attentive and friendly. They met and surpassed all requests and expectations. We went in our formal wear because it was our anniversary, however, we were not out of place. Other showed up in business casual attire, but still looked nice. We will forever return again due to the memories and service of this restaurant. Thank you Geranio's staff.
The food was absolutely delicious. I had the homemade lasagna and it was one of the best I've eaten. Pasta was tender and sauce was delicious. My companion had scallops and shrimp over tomatoes and the seafood was perfectly cooked. We had tiramisu and it was divine...better than some I've had in Italy. This has definitely become one of my favorite restaurants. Staff is also very accommodating and friendly. A great dining experience.
This was our second time at this restaurant, hoping the first visit was just a bad day - it wasn't. The food isn't awful, but not worth the prices.
The osso buco was a large portion served mildly warm and the bone upside down! The marrow (if there was any) was not to be found after I flipped it over. The outer ring of meat was tasty when first served, but got cold pretty fast.
My husband had the short ribs, which were off-the-bone and sliced. I've never had short ribs sliced, but maybe this is a proper way to serve them. They were a bit overdone and lacking in favor. The portion was small (I expected the meat of at least 3 bones).
The service was OK. Server was fine but had no warmth. Water glasses were always filled (the constant leaning in during our conversation was almost too intrusive, but I was happy to have water).
In summary, it's fine if everything else is booked, but we won't return.
