The food was great, and it was nice to hear live music at a restaurant again! The volume was a nice level that allowed us to enjoy the great music, but still be able to have a conversation.
Excellent service from host stand to server. Food was DELICIOUS!!
Bad service. It took 15 min for us to be seen and the drinks were fine.
Terrible service. Subpar food. Did I mention terrible service?
Great restaurant with a nice ambiance. Would recommend for a special occasion.
The service and food were amazing! Our server gave us the best advice and helped make our dinner a seamless experience. Best in Austin!
The Bloody Marys at brunch were superb!!! We will be back.
My husband and I ordered the quail, halibut, carrots and broccolini. The halibut was a bit disappointing, because the exterior was not crispy (as described by the waiter) but was a little chewy and I couldn't taste the fennel, which resulted in it being more of a texture element or garnish than a flavor element of the dish. Overall, the halibut was pretty average or slightly below average for this type of dining establishment. The quail was pretty good but the sauce was the best aspect of this dish, rather than the quail, which did not stand out. The broccolini was pretty good for broccolini. The carrots were the best part of the meal, which is a side dish, not an appetizer, as many waiters described it.
We were disappointed that the restaurant did not offer more local Austin or Hill Country cuisine or any true appetizers. The service was slow and when we asked whether they had any appetizers, the waiters pointed us to carrots and potatoes, which are NOT appetizers. Then, when we came back to Geraldine's after 9:00 pm to hear the music, my husband asked if there was any bar food like chips and queso but instead of apologizing for having nothing to offer him, the waiter appeared to mock his request as if he didn't belong there. This was the least truly Austin experience we have ever had. Austin should be laid back and friendly not pretentious and judgmental. The Van Zandt should start over with this restaurant and realize where it is located and embrace it. However, I wouldn't change the music element of Geraldine's. The music on Thursday night was excellent!
The first time we visited Geraldine’s everything was so perfect. Our server was fantastic, the food was great and the drinks were yummy. Since our first experience, we could not wait to return. This second time was a little disappointing. The food was still fantastic as well as the drinks, but the service was poor. This won’t keep us from coming back, I just hope the service is better next time.
We were there for the Jazz Brunch. The music was great. It was relaxing and we enjoyed ourselves. But, if your friend group is used to brunching with inexpensive mimosas - this is not for you.
We had a great time - had the waiter order for us and the food was incredible. Highly suggest!
Ambiance was great .. live music to die for .. food seems like an afterthought for management..small portion sizes .. high prices , ordered salmon Benedict .. turned out to be a thin slice of salmon .. layered on huge piece of bread .. cocktails and fruit juices were .. worth visiting for maybe cocktails but nothing great aside of that ..,
The menu doesnt say tapas but these are tiny dishes to be shared. Biscuits and beet salad were great. Everything else was mediocre. Striped bass was non existent...just cucumbers and watermelon. Would not eat here again.
Fried chicken night was delish. Smoked carrots are a must have and Keith was awesome!
Limited overpriced menu but tasty. Music was good, venue best part of the evening, very romantic
We went last Sunday for brunch. Overall it was a pleasant experience. The food is quite nice, and the waitress is very friendly and helpful. It often has jazz live show on Sunday morning, which plays nice background music when friends gather together…
We made a reservation several weeks in advance, and specified Outdoor Seating. When we arrived, they took us to an indoor table. When we asked, the host said we could "sit outside but we need the table in an hour." What tha? That was not planned well by the restaurant.
Our server was knowledgeable and welcoming. She made a great drink recommendation and knew the dishes well. But we wanted to order a hamburger, which was on signs in the lobby and people said great things about. But it's not available in the restaurant, only on the pool deck, which is literally 40 feet away. Annoying.
Food came at a good place and was flavorful. A vegetarian main dish would be appreciated.
Then one dish didn't come. The waiter was handling many tables, so we didn't have anyone check on us for about 30 minutes, which then made it too late for that dish. Waiter apologized and took it off the bill. No biggie but one more small annoyance to not get everything and not have anyone stop by to check and fix a small mistake, quickly.
At the end of the meal, we went out to watch the sunset. It would have been really nice to be out there for the meal. It's legit why we came there.
Price was fair for the ambiance, waiter, and food. Not mad at it but too many annoyances to want to go back. And it's on Rainy Street, so street level is slamming bass from the bars and silly scooters dodging thru cars.
Seems like menu has been trimmed down since last time. I would have liked more options for dinner entrees. Overall was great night out for our anniversary celebration.
Amazing spot for special occasions. Brought my 10 girls here for a bachelorette brunch and it was a good (calm) start to our Saturday on Rainey St. Highly recommend! Brent was a fantastic server!
The ambience and service were really the bright spots of the dinner the food, presented pleasantly, was rather pedestrian in taste. Not inspiring in the least.
The service was fantastic, and the view from the pool was stellar.
Would probably return for drinks at the bar, but would not eat there again.
Simply put - one of the best restaurants in town. My partner and I came to Geraldine's on a Thursday evening and had one of our greatest dining experiences ever. Everything from the food, to the live music, to the service and drinks were outstanding. My partner and I both come from a background in hospitality and culinary arts, so we tend to be a bit picky about our food and wait service. That being said, Geraldine's exceeded any and all expectations we had walking in. I recommend this place 100%. Must try the maple butter biscuits (best I have ever had). Truly a gem of a restaurant!
We requested a seating away from the entrance and high traffic and it was accommodated. Our server Tai (spelling ? ) was excellent. She was very attentive and engaging. We came to try out the Bird, Bubbles and Blues Thursday experience. The chicken was spicy good and most especially the half off Moët bubbly. However we could not experience the Blues since it starts at 8:30 and there is no spot by the bar to enjoy it after dinner. It would have been better if the band starts at 8 instead.
The Best. I enjoyed the Food and the Music. I will return !
Visiting our daughter in Austin, brunch was amazing, highlight recommend the sticky buns.
We were running early for our brunch reservation, so called to change the time and they were very accommodating. The service was attentive and meal was tasty and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the music and wished that we could have stayed longer but were told that they needed our table, so left shortly after receiving our check. We will try them for dinner next time and if asked to give up our table, will see if we can move to the bar.
Menu consists of small plates to share. Everything we ordered was delicious. The hotel parking garage was full, and consequently the valet was closed except for hotel guests. This may have been due to the hotel opening to 100% occupancy and most guests driving to Austin for Memorial Day weekend instead of flying. Minor inconvenience because the restaurant experience was excellent.
We entered and got seated without issue upon arrival with no wait time. We each ordered a cocktail and they arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. We placed an order for the biscuit and the Brussel Sprouts to start while we were deciding on what other items we wanted to try. Within minutes of getting our drinks we had gnats swarming around our table requiring swatting away. One landed in my cocktail and my fiancé fished it out for me. I then proceeded to cover my drink with my napkin to avoid further likelihood that it would land in my drink. The Brussel sprouts were delivered to the table after 10 minutes from ordering by another waiter. Our waiter delivered the biscuits after 15minutes making this the 2nd time he came to our table after we placed our drink order at which point it was brought to his attention about the gnats swarming and he said ‘Oh how unfortunate let us know if the gnat goes in your drink again and we can make you a new one” at this time the entire dining experience was ruined for us especially with the constant swatting of the gnats flying around. We had intentions of ordering several more items but at that time we decided it would be better to leave and take our business elsewhere. It is also unfortunate because it is a demerit with the health department and now a complaint has been filed with the health department. Hope they are able to resolve their issues and provide a better dining experience for others.
The food was delicious and nicely presented and the drinks were amazing. However, it was really really cold in the restaurant which made us leave right after we finished the food. It might be an Austin thing, we definitely didn’t enjoy it.
Amazing time! Went for Sunday brunch after graduation. Great jazz band and service. The espresso martini is to die for and then we made our own meal. Biscuits with friend chicken and a poached egg.
The music was exceptional. That was the best part of the visit. We stayed the night and MH3 was definitely the best part of the stay. The champagne for our 35th anniversary was a very nice surprise! Much appreciated!
All-in-all, this was a very nice stay!
Great table, front and center of live music!
Menu was a bit confusing at first, but our server did a great job of explaining the concept, which is shared plates, family-style. It was lovely.
Outstanding service by Alaina, great drinks from the bar. The food was excellent, the Brussel sprouts, the ribs, and beets were awesome.
Live music after dinner.
Geraldines location in the Hotel Van Zandt is fantastic.
This particular visit was very disappointing however due to short staff colliding with graduation weekend and nascar overtaking Austin. They had not prepared.
Reservations were set, however there was still a wait to get in. We were led to our table that had syrup & sticky covering most of it, flies and gnats buzzing the table, jazz trio had played & left by the time we were seated (they were billed as playing during the brunch but listed no times) It took over an hour to get our meals, although there was food on the floor under each table within eyeshot.
When food arrived it was good.
Our waitress was doing the work of 3 people & it was not fair to her.
Hope this was an isolated experience and that Geraldines can clean up these issues to become the restaurant that it portrays itself to be.
We had made plans to go to Geraldine’s for a special brunch for my daughter. The food, drinks and ambiance were top notch, but the service was below expectations. It was moderately busy for a Saturday afternoon brunch at 1pm. It took well over 43 minutes before we had our food, with no explanation on the waitress only checking on us one time during that period. We had to inquire with the maitre’d where our food was before it was located in the kitchen and brought out. The food was not so warm that it was fresh, but we were too hungry to wait for them to correct. There was no explanation or apologies from the waitress at all. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience.
First time at Geraldines today. I thought the place was beautiful and the live jazz was great. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and the Ricotta Toast. The Eggs Benedicts were delicious. However, I felt like the Ricotta Toast needed a different type of cheese or more sweetness. The service was a little bit slow too.
Food was amazing, live music was wonderful. Loved this place.
