Gumbo was too soup-like. Could have come from a Campbells can. Anyone from the south would object. The shrimp in the Gumbo was more like “on” the Gumbo - like it was added from the frozen bag of shrimp after being thawed in the microwave. The veg in the gumbo was ‘fresh’, like it never had the time to contribute to the flavor - they stood out too much from the overall dish detracting from the experience.

Red beans and rice wasn’t particularly flavorful. Again texture was wrong for southern cooking

Southern cooking takes time. You can’t make gumbo or red beans at a ‘restaurant pace’. The dishes I and my son had were made by some chef who heard about southern cooking but never experienced it. All the ingredients were there but none of the soul.

You can do much much better at places with less ambiance (which was very nice) at a quarter of the price.

Ok - maybe a third.

This is a place for upper middle class tourists who want to say they went to a place with southern cuisine.

Down home folk will politely dine with furrowed brow and eyes at half mast, courteously smile at the waiter and thank the greeter at the door as they leave

And never come back.

Overall, the buttermilk cried chicken was dry. Shrimp and grits needed more flavor. Service with Dion was excellent. Generally, it was overpriced but ok and a nice experience.

we went for hh and at first they told me i couldn’t sit out on the patio for happy hour because hh is only in the lounge area, however their happy hr. menu clearly stated that “happy hr is available on the patio and lounge area.” i told the server they should consider changing their menu then because it’s very misleading. however, he took it upon himself to share my feedback with the manager or something because immediately after our chat, he came back and told me i could sit outside. i was glad they honored what they wrote on their menu, i mean after all, we are still very much in a pandemic. anytime a person can dine outdoors it should be honored. anyhoot, aide from that minor hiccup, everything was great. our server was phenomenal, i believe her name was diamond! typically when have gratuity automatically added to every check, regardless of party size…the service is always less than. but at that was certainly not the case at GB. Although the 20% gratuity was automatically added to our check…SHE GAVE US THE GREATEST SERVICE! she was such a delight! i will def. return, solely because of diamond!

Only complaint is they added the tip onto the bill at 20% which is what I would have tipped but I want that option. Also then added tax onto the bill with the tip. Aggravating

We ate on a Thursday evening at 7:00 and the restaurant was comfortably filled but not excessively so as has been the case pre-COVID. The service was top notch with a very professional wait staff. Our waiter checked in with us several times to ensure we had everything needed.

The main attraction at GA Browns is the food. Tonight it did not disappoint. Everything was exactly as it should be from the cornbread to the last bite of my blackened salmon & greens.

Georgia Brown's is the only restaurant I dine at in DC. That's how much I enjoy eating there. Its been awhile since I dined there because of the pandemic but I recently dined there on October 14th and the restaurant is still serving great food with a great group of courteous and professional staff members. Certainly will recommend to anybody to dine at Georgia Brown's. You won't be disappointed

Our service was terrible. Unlike many restaurants, Georgia Brown's on the evening we dined there appeared to have plenty of servers and bussers. Nonetheless, we were pretty much ignored. We waited a very long time for our before-dinner drinks. The glass of wine that my husband ordered to be served with his meal also took a very long time. We asked our server -- we had two servers -- twice about it. I saw it poured, and I finally got up and retrieved the wine so that he could enjoy a few sips before he finished his meal.
My fried chicken was dry and lukewarm. Far too pricey for what generally is a blue-plate special. We certainly didn't get the service such prices support.
Total disappointment and our last trip to Georgia Brown's.

The scenery and ambiance is beautiful!!
We originally had reservations at Creole on 14th but decided that Georgia Brown would be better!!
It took five minutes for get seated because there was no hostess at the post. But we were seated and it took 45 minutes for us to get a waiter and then another 10minutes to get water at the table. Our waiter got orders wrong twice. This was each of our second time, but first with each other. We may not go back for the fact we had bad service other time we came with other parties.. I don’t know I guess third try will be better. The food is amazing tho!

The food was really well seasoned. The wait staff was pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu items. Our side dishes were incorrect on at least three of the entrees due to requests to swap but, those were remedied quickly.

Since I’m from the south and grew up on southern cuisine (soul food), I made reservations with high expectations. It was unfortunate that the food was just okay. The restaurant was out of iced tea and nothing about the entire or dessert enticed me to dine here again.

I should have read the website before going. It clearly stated the 6 course brunch price and the time it would take. It was pricey and extremely slow, beyond the 2 hours stated. Nevertheless, the food was really good as always, and I server was nice. Loved the ambience.

Service was slow. Food quality was fair. It’s not as good as it was in 2018. You can’t blame the fair food quality and poor service on COVID.

The waitress kept forgetting to put in drink orders and also was slow to bring food to the table. The food wasn’t warm when served and entrees tasted bland.

We went to celebrate a special occasion. In 2018, the experience was excellent, so we went today to celebrate a bday. Today, it was disappointing. Rated 1 star out of 5.

What a wonderful experience. I highly recommend dining at Georgia Brown's. The service was impeccable (thank you to Eshe, our waitress!), the food was outstanding and challenged me to switch up my palate, and, finally, the ambience was lovely.

It's so nice to be in a primarily Black establishment where everyone is dressed up and enjoying themselves.

I highly suggest dressing neatly and coming with an empty belly when you come here!

I have been here before and had the best experience and this time I felt like we were ignored and the people I encountered were snappy except the hostess. The food was cold, it took 42min to get our food and another 35min just to pay. My gumbo was mostly stew over rice which was strange because it was my second time ordering it. We drank our water and cocktail and the waiter came when we were paying to bring more water. The male bartender was overwhelmed and took it out on us as I watched him waste liquor and product and snap at multiple people. On the positive side the hostess embodied what the restaurant strives to be and had the waiter not forgotten us I'm certain the food would've been better and I would've spent more.

Food was good. Would not eat outdoors again - too much street noise, bus fumes, sirens etc. Dining room is much nicer. Service was generally good but had to wait an inordinate time to get the check. When it arrived, it included a service charge of 20%, which is fine, but the waiter or hostess needs to tell me that, either at the time of seating or when bringing the check. It was clear enough on the bill itself, but pre-included service charges are still rare enough, at least for small parties (we were 3 people), that it should have been mentioned.

Since when does a party of two have an automatic gratuity added on the bill? I have NEVER seen that before and was put off by it. Gratuitiues are always supposed to be at the discretion of the Patron NOT the establishment! I do not know if I will return especially with the mediocre food that I experienced that night.

Every time we come to DC we dine here. The fried chicken is a religious experience. The salmon is divine, we have never had a meal here that was less then outstanding. We like to eat outside because it’s quieter than dining inside, even inside the noise is not usually bad.
