Our server was absolutely amazing and the brunch deal was exciting!
Food and entertainment was very good, but what happened to the air conditioning and ambience? when I was there before - many years ago - it was light and elegant. Now it’s rather dim. Needs lighting I think.
Delicious food. AMAZINGGGG.... Service. Mr. Nelson was our server and he was very attentive. The omelette station was delicious and the Brunch caters to shellfish allergic people.
Great food. Nice ambiance. Will definitely return.
This remains one of my favorite restaurants to dine, especially with its Jazz Brunch on Sundays. The food is spectacular and the music amazing.
Mediocre at best. Not sure why this place has such high reviews. We attended brunch. And although the food was plentiful, it was not memorable in any way. They had a vast selection. The best was the omlet that was made to order so it was fresh. The roast beef was hard and dry. You can also order an entree and carry it home. My shrimp and grits were so poorly prepared and swimming in gravy it was awful. The decor is poorly maintained and a little overused and dirty. Just not what I was hoping and expecting.
I was expecting the food to be absolutely amazing, but it was far from it. I ordered the fried chicken, collard greens and Mac and cheese, it came out in like 5 minutes. That immediately was a red flag, because that means the food wasn’t fresh. The chicken was crispy, but it lacked flavor and it was hard and extremely dry. I could only eat the skin. I believe they microwaved it. The collard greens were flavorless and they weren’t cut up. The mac and cheese was the only thing I enjoyed. It wasn’t the best I’ve every had, but it was better than everything else. The service was okay. The waiter checked on us periodically.
Service and staff did a wonderful job. Our bartender was Abel and he was so welcoming we decided to eat in the bar area rather than our reserved table. Food was somewhat disappointing after reading the reviews. Growing up around Charleston and the low country gave me an appreciation for southern cooking. I have had variants of low country food in many places around the country and Georgia Brown's offerings were just average. We had the gumbo, dirty rice, fried chicken livers and the collard greens.
The initial entry into the restaurant was very warm. The hostess seated us to our table. The male waiter was very course in his approach. This was very unappealing to me as it was my first visit, which was highly recommended. I didn’t get a warm feeling from him but one of “ I’m bothering him”. The young man who brought our food was very nice, friendly and eased me. The other young awaited who filled the water glasses also was very friendly with a beautiful smile. The food was good- especially the buttermilk fried chicken, the mashed potatoes and the collards. The cornbread was extremely good! Putting everything aside regarding the unfortunate unfriendly waiter we got served by, I would recommended the food & the younger waiters- the older waiter evidently forgot that his impatient & curt remarks need some major improvement. Being a restaurant Owner myself along with my husband, we understand that good friendly service is what get repeat business regardless how great the food maybe. People remember how you make them feel, and because of those feelings will determine if one will return. Maybe he was having a bad day, but after speaking $73 on the food, I expected to feel good eating it and expected good service. He killed both .
Nice chill spot. Good music, good staff, good food.
Food to price is fair. Service was good, server was knowledgeable. Will go back.
Dark and stormy was a good drink.
Appetizer - catfish was good and fresh.
Dinner - the fresh trout was good and it came with veggies which were very good and spinach. I switched the mashed potatoes for the spinach. The food was warm. I've seen that on other reviews but it's like warm to eat right at that moment. The service is fast.
Georgia Brown's food was fantastic! The fried chicken dinner was delicious. Our waiter was great as I had a diner with me that needed gluten free menu. He helped her work through the menu to determine what her options were for dinner. He was very attentive without being annoying. The restaurant itself needs some updating..it was a bit dated and worn. Some sprucing up would help the atomosphere. Overall experience was nice.
Great experience and delicious food!
Amazing experience!! My guest and I enjoyed a wonderful meal. Food was served hot and fresh. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and provided excellent service!!
The food was terrible. Had the meatloaf and it tasted horrible. It appeared the gravy on top was out of a jar. The potatoes were hardly present with the meal.
Great experience as always. Keep it going!
We ordered a variety of food. Everything was pretty decent. The sides were quite tasteful between the macaroni cheese and collard greens. I completely forgot about the cake and cupcake policy. We were not going to pay almost $4.00 per person to put my cake and cupcakes on their plates. They kindly agreed to place our desserts in their refrigerator and we took the items back home with us. Needless to say dinner was fine. The server was very pleasant and we took our desserts back home.
The restaurant needs some renovations. It looks worn down. The food was just mediocre. The waiter was good. It was too expensive for the quality received.
Gumbo was served Luke warm with cold pieces of crab meat on top. Sent it back and the plate was redone properly. Chicken livers were good. Hearty portions. Corn bread was just ok. I was disappointed. Bathrooms were messy and we arrived when they opened at 5:30pm on Sunday. Glory days may be over.
It was my birthday. I have been to Georgia Brown’s many times over the years to celebrate with friends and family. In fact I celebrated my 21st birthday there. So going back for 43rd was a no brainer. Our experience yesterday was subpar. Our server did not listen to us and generally ignored us. He did not bring me the ice tea I asked for and he would leave our used buffet plates stacked on the table. We sat there and watched as he gave better service to the tables around us. We had to ask for the check even though we had stopped eating after being there for a hour. The food was cold and greasy. Not what I expected for a $45 dollar brunch. Our sever then charged my Amex twice for my meal. The manager came over and assured me the charge would drop off once they reconciled their credit charges at the end of the night. It’s the next day and I still have two charges on my card. I will not be back.
Good dining experience overall....interesting menu choices and service was very good.
The food here is excellent, service is outstanding, ambience is nice but restaurant needs a face lift. The bathrooms were not very clean, and the entire restaurant has a bathroom odor. I would come back but would probably do outdoor seating if the weather is nice.
Our family was celebrating a graduation and for many it was their first visit to DC and to Georgia Brown's! The service was excellent! The food amazing---the value incredible! I wish we could have come to brunch on Sunday but they were leaving Sunday morning. Thanks for a memorable and delicious experience!
This restaurant was simply amazing. The waitress provided excellent service, great food and drink recommendations as well. The food was very good and so was the price. Will definitely be going back.
Delicious food, fantastic service and the live jazz made an already fabulous dining experience even better.
Live Jazz as background for authentic suthn' food. Fabulous. Well designed interior made for cozy spaces for conversation. Diverse array of food choices, many of which one can rarely find. Everyone at our table raved.
The chef nailed it!!! Shrimp and grits perfection! My Bloody Mary was The Best!!! Thank you! Georgia Brown’s is our favorite DC restaurant!
Food was tasty. Strong smell at entrance of restaurant. Very expensive for meal portion.
Good food, good spot, good company.
Every time I am in DC on a Sunday, I am at Georgia Browns. Love their Sunday Brunch.
"Get out of town! This is great!" is what my friend from Colorado said when we went out to eat at Georgia Brown's. It might be a little pricy, but DEFINITELY worth it!
We were so disappointed. We had not been there in a few years because we are from out of town. The restaurant was hot. The air conditioner was not cooling. The waiter was very very slow. He could not remember our orders. My iced tea came with very little ice. I had to ask 3 different people for ice. The buffet included a entree you could order also. He forgot to turn in order. The jazz was really good but being up close to jazz group and the heat it was an uncomfortable experience.
This was a favorite place for us but will not come back. It was very expensive for our experience.
Our first time here, celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. Great way to end our weekend with Sunday brunch. Food was delicious and fresh, with great service (Tiffany) on top of that. You'll see us back soon!
I really loved the band /singer; what a Beautiful voice she has! GB's has a great thing going with the Jazz brunch. I would like to recommend them updating their "take home" portion of brunch or adding some different seasonal choices. It seems they've had those same choices forever! Restaurants like this should continuously look to keep things fresh and exciting. My favorite thing? The syrup with pecans!!! It just takes my waffles and French toast to another level, lol! The Georgia Peach martini is divine, too!
Not sure what’s going on (or not) in the kitchen but the food was not good, not seasoning and not the same as in previous years. A southern restaurant’s food should taste somewhat like home cooking. Brunch At Georgia Brown’s was not very appetizing and A bit disappointing. We have dined for special celebrations or no occasion over the years and today was not good It was very bland. Not sure who’s in the kitchen cooking but some soul is definitely needed back there.
I used to really like Georgia Brown's. I have visited several times since it opened. However, I think that the the food has lost something over the years. I won't be rushing to come back anytime soon.
My husband and I are vacationing in DC from the San Francisco Bay Area. We received a recommendation fro good friends to go to your restaurant. We had a very good dinner. However, my husband said that the Buttermilk Fried Chicken that he ordered was very dry. He was definitely disappointed. Otherwise, the service was excellent and we had a good time.
It was very warm inside, not sure if the air conditioner was broken or what.
Air conditioning was not keeping up so it was more than uncomfortable.
