We all enjoyed our meals very much. We had the Charleston Perlau, Crab Cakes and Flank Steak. We came in late and there were a lot of people, so service was a little slow, but we were treated very kindly and hope we didn't overstay our welcome!
The food was good, BUT they need a disclaimer on some of the meals. I ordered shrimp and grits. It did not say that the shrimp came with head and tail on. I was at a business meal and really didn’t feel like having to free the shrimp from its shell. Also, I asked about dessert and instead of the server bringing the menu, he verbally told us the options. I order the apple pie. It came SMOTHERED in sweet caramel sauce. Who smothers apple pie! Again, there should have been a disclaimer letting me know so that I could have asked for plain apple pie.
Food was good today(Father's Day), I had the Devil Shrimp and it was pretty good. My wife had the shrimps and grits, but it lacked favor(she did not want pork sausages in the grits which could be why it lacked favor)
I truly enjoyed the live music.
We did the jazz brunch. It seemed very overpriced for what you get. Space is very cramped. I probably wouldn’t go again.
High priced, food was mediocre, characterized as a southern Cuisine restaurant and there was nothing southern about the food. The decor was a poor knock off of trying to be a fancy restaurant. Service was horrible waited 30 minutes for water. Small portion sizes and ridiculous prices.
Much Ado About Nothing
The reputation exceeds reality at Georgia Brown's. I tried the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, one of their most popular dishes. The meat was dry, and the only flavor was in the batter. The side of collard greens was chopped too large, so made a mess when I tried to eat it. The greens were overly sweet. I also had mashed potatoes, which, along with the fried liver appetizer, were the best things I ate. My wife had the baked chicken, and she thought it was good, but not great. Her sides were mac and cheese, which was overpowered with chili powder, and her string beans were bland. 2 chicken dinners cost us over $100. That's a pretty crazy bill, when we could have had better chicken and sides at a Royal Farms for under $20. Seems like Georgia Brown's needs to stop resting on their laurels.
Absolutely horrible. One of my worst dining experiences ever.
I was on a business trip, traveling alone and this restaurant was recommended. It was just perfect for me.
Food was great and prices reasonable. The catfish nuggets are delish!
The food was stellar. The service was absolutely horrible. I'd go back simply because the food was just that good!
This place can do better. It seemed the bar and happy hour may carry this place. The food was unimpressive. I had the deconstructed jambalaya which was bland and just sort of there. The pork was mostly gristle. What did make it interesting was what I am assuming is house made hot sauce that was on the table. Nice touch there! Biscuits were like stones and the cornbread like sand. Maybe an off night but was by far the worst meal I had the entire week I was in DC.
My family was from the South and I grew up with southern cooking. I was looking forward to flavors from my childhood. While the names of the menu items may have sounded authentic, the flavors were not. Everything I ordered was bland (and I sampled quite a few items). I had to ask for and use black pepper and cayenne pepper to make the dishes at at all palatable. Also, bacon or salt pork is an essential part of many of the dishes I ordered, and it seemed to be missing entirely. It was also very loud. I do not recommend to anyone looking for real southern cooking or the ability to be heard by the person next to you.
The 3-scallops appizter was delicious! (but really not enough to share as their menu suggested - I felt slighted cheated... My friend and I would not have shared it if we had known only 3!).
The maple salmon salad was god-sent!!! We really enjoyed our meals. And the bread were great!! (Service is ok. Not super good, but not bad either)
Live music was awesome but made it way too loud. We had to shout to be heard.
Delicious food. Coffee was very pricey. Noise level pretty high, but restaurant was very busy. We had a party of 12 with 7 split checks. No problem with splitting checks.
Loved it! I had the crab cake stuffed salmon and it was excellent!
Waitress was excellent
Excellent. Great food and great service.
Go for Sunday Jazz Brunch. It is Excellent. The food is very good and you receive a free dinner with your brunch.
I did a Facebook Live post because I was having such a wonderful time. The food wonderful, the music wonderful, the service wonderful!
Brunch was amazing!
Alexis, our server was amazing and made our experience fantastic!
Outdoor seating was nice to watch the world go by as we relaxed. Service was great. But the real star was the food. We had the she crab soup, crab cakes, and season stuffed shrimp. Food was very fresh and flavorful. Whole the crab & shrimp were delicious I have to say that Chesapeake corn side dish that comes with the crab cakes is the show stopper. If Georgia Browns would can this and sell it at the store I’d be the first to run out and buy it. I’ll certainly be back for more.
The food was amazing the staff was excellent the location is beautiful and close to the White House.
Overall the service was impeccable. The bar staff, servers and hostess were on point, professional, and cordial. I paid $17 for fried chicken that didn't have enough flavor. (I expected more of a buttermilk flavor and had high hopes because I am a true Southern foodie). The ambiance was a bit stuffy and it was difficult to have a conversation through the high din of a Saturday night. Go for the service. Choose a specialty from the menu.
Not real Soul Food! Chicken was dry and needed seasoning as did everything served. Fried green tomatoes are a fail. They tried to make them fancy by putting a sauce between two tomatoes, which meant the tomatoes were not fried well. Not going back.
The shrimp and grits was delicious! Nice atmosphere with outdoor seating. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Ample portion sizes with great taste and presentation. Pride showed in the cooking.
IT was an awesome experience for me and my friends being the first visit! Definitely a Gem!!! The catfish I have never tasted like that before. Vegetable.....everything was just Yummy !!!!!
One diner has severe food issues, so she asked the waiter for PLAIN grilled chicken breast with no breading or spices. 15 minutes after the other 3 of us got our meals, he brought a plate of breaded fried chicken. She again told him what she needed, and it took another 12 minutes for the dish to be cooked and for him to bring it. She wound up eating less than half of it because we had to get back to work.
Sloppy service and lack of coordination between the waiter and the kitchen!
Food was overpriced and mediocre. Had to send an item back ( mac and cheese) and the crab cakes were terrific—the worst I have ever had.
Very disappointed in the food—not soulful at all.
Noted to wait staff that the food was not satiating at all.
It was the worst meal I have ever had, corn side tasted and smelled, red rice side was mush and the cat fish had no taste
GB's is not bad. It is just not good enough to justify the menu prices. I would have expected a southern themed restaurant to have superb fried chicken, but mine was a little dry and lacking in seasoning. On the plus side, the portion sizes are more than adequate, the wait staff was reasonably attentive (though it took quite a while for the food to arrive) and we did not feel at all rushed. So, it was a good choice to meet to catch up with an old friend, where the quiet atmosphere and unrushed pace were assets.
The restaurant has huge portions for the price you pay. The wait staff really knew about the food and were so accommodating to our needs
It was my daughter’s 21st birthday. Everything was perfect!!
Don’t hesitate! Book a reservation, and if they’re full... choose another day/time. It’s that good!
great ambience; great food; great music (live jazz)...overall experience: AWESOMENESS!
Service was very good, food not so much. Ambiance and vibe were decent, the jazz band was great!
The music was great! The customer service is outstanding! The food was delicious! Maybe make signs for people to use utensils I saw a few finger pops of food which is really unsanitary. Will absolutely be back!
Outstanding all around! Thank you for a fun and delicious dinner
