George's in the Grove - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Went there a few years ago...was fun, entertaining and food was good.
Complimentary "Champagne" from Bayonne/New Jersey was served...then Foie Gras was not available, Mussels were not good (most were closed) and sauce was awful.
Will not return...made a mistake ...should have go to Le Bouchon for Bastille Day
Brunch at George's was the worst experience of my life. Awful service. In fact, our waitress admitted the manager switched servers around and left our table without a server. Needless to say, we waited a really long time for everything and an hour after ordering our meals, we finally got cold plates. I paid because I can't take free food but I couldn't justify a tip.
A little gem in the heart of Coconut Grove. We had to wait a few minutes while our table was cleared and they gave us complimentary Mimosas with a free refill. We all had brunch and the food and service were superb. We had a lovely outside table shaded from the sun.
First time here and thoroughly disappointed. We purchased a Groupon for a three course meal for two. Ordinarily that would mean two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts. Their Groupon fine print didn't negate that assumption either. We get there and when we go to order the waiter starts listing these limitations. Just wonderful. -_-
We were sat down and it was not busy at all for a Friday night yet we had to ask a busboy for water after sitting there for a good 15 mins. We ordered the salmon tartar and the steak, UNPALATABLE. No or weird flavor and just subpar.
When it came time to order dessert, I asked for a manager explaining the deal we bought while showing him the Groupon itself. The manager kept repeating to me that it should state the restrictions even though regardless of him saying that, it DIDN'T say. He then tried to placate us with "free ice cream." I'm surprised he didn't ask me if I wanted sprinkles seeing as I must have looked 10 to him.
It took forever to get served, it took so long for them to come back to the table and to give us the check. We even contemplated just leaving without paying since we sat there for like 30 mins before they gave us our check. NEVER again. And if you want to have a nice dinner, please don't go there. You'll end up disappointed with the service and hungry. I'm only giving it one star because no stars isn't an option.
They also canceled my OpenTable reservation THREE days after we already went just so I couldn't leave a bad review on the site. I had to email OpenTable to have them correct it. I am so shocked about all of this. Thank you for making our first date night of the year so miserable. Fellow diners, please just avoid this place at all cost.
I have been to the sister location numerous times with excellent customer service. As a party of 5 on a saturday night we were sat within 5 minutes. Once the bread was brought out it took another 15 minutes for a server to address our table and place drink orders. About 10-15 minutes following that, she returned to notify us that she "just found out" that they no longer serve liquor, just wine and beer. Another diner at our table inquired about the pizzas (the menu says they are served mon-thurs only, however a nearby table had what appeared to be one) the waitress replied they had used the last of the dough for that one. We ordered an appetizer for the table to share in addition to soups salads and entrees. The soup/salads appeared quickly. After 30 minutes we inquired about the appetizer which was then brought out 15 minutes later, and immediately followed by our entrees (defeating the purpose of an appetizer) we ordered creme brûlée and an apple cobbler dessert to share. The apple cobbler was completely frozen in the middle.
It took over 90 minutes to receive our entrees and it was well after a 4top (whom arrived after us)completed their meal.
Not only did one gentleman in our group get ice water spilled down his back from the server behind him filling drinks for another table, but another server carrying plates to the kitchen hit my husband in the head with a large serving plate when walking behind his chair. ("Oh, sorry" and continued walking.) when my husband saw blood on his finger upon palpating the area that was knicked by the plate, we asked to speak to the manager. The manager came nearby but never actually made it to the table, she instead requested for one of the servers to box our food and refill our water.
The food overall was good, however I have never experienced such poor service/management in my life. Had the restaurant been packed or had we received so much as an apology for the slow/poor service we would have been satisfied. Never again.
It was a packed house, however, it should not be an excuse for poor service. We had reservations from Open Table but still had to wait 15 mins. They ran out of many food items, the service was extremely slow, and the food was not hot. Twice the waiter tried to serve us the entrees from another table. Needless to say they did not impress our out of town guests.
Made a reservation through Open Table for New Year's Eve. I ordered the escargot and the Lamb Shank with a cheese risotto. The escargot was delicious as well as the lamb shank. The risotto was undercooked and far from al dente. The service from our waiter was horrible. He never asked if we wanted another glass of wine nor did he refill our waters. I had to request a water refill to the manager. When our dinner was brought out , he never stopped by our table to ensure our meal wa fine. When I requested our check , he brought it and asked how was our meal. I could not believe it that I actually informed him how horrible his service was and pointed out all the details. Needless to say, I did not speak to the manger to further ruin our New Year's Evening. I will not be returning.
Visited this restaurant while on a short trip to Miami. Located on a tree-lined street in the main shopping area of Coconut Grove, George's is a small, relaxed place offering very good food and excellent service. I had steak tartare (a rarity for me) that was absolutely fresh and nicely seasoned. My wife had Branzino, broiled lightly, and also fresh and tasty. The wine list is modest, but offers some decent choices. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
