Geoffrey's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This is a lovely place to eat with some very nice staff. It has a great location and a nice ambiance. The attitude of the staff was very good; my niece and I enjoyed the banter.
The menu is quite good; as is the wine list. If it ended there and this was a middle order restaurant offering middle order pricing I would be giving it a 4 star review.
Unfortunately the quality of the food really does not meet the standard required for a restaurant in its high end price category. We shared the crab cake starter ...it was a little stodgy and bland for my tastes to be honest. However the real let down was the main courses. Both my niece and I had rice based dinners. In my case it was the scallops on a bed of risotto ... the risotto was again bland and way over cooked. There was simple no texture left in the rice and the scallops themselves were likely farmed a way too soft; no firmness at all.
As for my niece - she had the Paella. Again the rice was mushy and over cooked. It had an odd curry flavour rather than the traditional Chorizo base.
We had a lovely evening overall, not least due to the attitude of the staff and the wonderful ambiance of this place. It is a pity about the the food, if it was a lower price bracket I would not complain as much ... but I expect more in this category. Nothing that can't be fixed with a little more attention to detail.
My wife and I treated a long-time and wonderful friend to a dinner celebrating the friend's retirement. None of us had been to Geoffrey's before even though we had all lived in the Valley for over 40 years. We booked a 4:30 PM table and sat outdoors with a good view of the ocean and the sunset. The bar and dinner staff and service were excellent, and we enjoyed our tasty dinners very much. As it became cooler, the staff turned on the heat lamps so our comfort was just perfect. We all agreed we would love to return again to this charming restaurant.
Had booked Geoffry’s for a special birthday dinner and had anticipated an amazing night. But unfortuately it was merely just okay.
Our server was very nice but no onexwas super atrentive. The food was good but not great, especially for the price. None of us loved it so much that we want to go back. The appetizer, although very tasty, the portion was TINY, we had the beef belly.
The one thing that made it just okay was the outdated design and furnishings. If not looking directly at the ocean, it has the appearance of a 1990’s diner.
Geoffrey's is one of the better restaurants to visit in the greater Malibu area, with a nice view of the Pacific and a relaxed atmosphere. Great service from the staff. The food is very good, but not outstanding - and the open seating to the Pacific and (if you catch it) the sunset makes it worth going to this restaurant at least once.
We went to this place for new year's lunch and loved it ! The restaurant was quite busy during the time and we got a table quickly as we already made reservation online. They got a beautiful ocean view and that will definitely make me visit the place again. Food was decent with excellent service :) Definitely recomment it !
We went with another couple for New Year's Eve dinner, late (10pm), to "ring in the year" in a party atmosphere -- champagne toast, balloons, hats, horns, confetti, whatever, you know, the usual NYE thing. Especially since there was a NYE prix-fixe-only menu. But we arrived to find there was none of that. When we arrived the host was clearly not happy to see us, almost surly, glaringly asking "do you have a reservation?" And as he walked us to our table we were told in no uncertain terms that "the kitchen closes at 10:30". There was absolutely nothing that would indicate that this was NYE -- nothing. It basically was just a normal dinner, at a higher price. And it became clear that they were not all that interested in us staying til midnight to ring in the New Year. Once we realized that, we let them rush us through the rest of diner and dessert, and retreated home to have a NY toast. What a pity.
Footnote -- our server was very nice and gracious, and tried to be upbeat. But he couldn't overcome the general demeanor of the place.
We came here on New Years Eve for brunch. We felt rushed the entire time. Ray our server kept hovering for our orders even though we told him we weren't ready yet. For a high end restaurant the bar was high and we expected more than what we got. Shall we say diner type service? Everything was rushed. Our food was terrible. Had the lobster salad which was bland and watery. Lobster had no taste and was not fresh. Bloody Marys were pre-mixed canned stuff. Ray told us we couldn't substitute the scrambled eggs for eggs over medium because the kitchen was busy! The wait staff were not friendly and they were rude. Will never go back. When the got our check Ray actually stood there and waited for me to check the bill and rushed me for the credit card. Unreal.
Geoffreys was magical. My fiance and I went for end of year brunch celebration. I got the crab cakes benedict, ahi tuna tartar, and coconut shrimp. The service was excellent, views incredible, and we sat outside overlooking the water. We loved every minute!
It was our Christmas Dinner after travelling 12 hours to get there.
The food was cold and service was very rushed to the level they didn’t even give me a chance to finish my starter.
The plates from others in my party was picked whilst I was half way through my cold stuffed quail. And the waiter came and asked if I finished whilst I was still eating twice...
We rarely give an unfavorable review for a restaurant (look at our rating history). We eat out a LOT and use Open Table for nearly all our dining. Geoffrey's Restaurant must have had an off night. Here are the facts: 1) Surprised that you have to pay $10.00 to enter the restaurant (Valet is mandatory and there are no realistic options). Not a big deal; but, rather pricy when no options are available, 2) Our table was certainly "prime" (great location, very nice); but that's where the compliments have to end (other than the hostess who did provide a warm greeting), 3) Our waiter was "rough", it made us feel like we were eating in a truck stop. Water glasses never refilled, bread just plopped on the table and walked away, didn't remember who ordered what entree (there were only 2 of us!), never checked back to ask how the food was, put the check on the table and walked away without saying a word! We felt very unwelcome, it was almost like he was doing us a favor - our waiter really needs to consider another occupation. It truly ruined our experience, 4) The food was "good", not great and certainly not flavorful (i.e, the salmon and paella were bland), 5) I ordered (very slowly and clearly) a "Vodka Martini, extra dry, straight up with olives". I received a Martini that certainly tasted like Gin; but, let's say it was Vodka...it still came with a lemon twist and no olives. I told our waiter, and he said... (direct quote) "I wrote it down as a twist, and that's why you got a twist" - OMG... I've never in decades ordered a martini with a twist. Then, he walked away. 6) We wrote on our check that we were disappointed with the service that evening so the Management would hopefully see. In addition, I stopped with the hostess and explained what happened and that we did not have a good experience. She said "would you like me to have the Manager call you". I said "yes", she asked for (and I provided) my cell phone number. No call! Yikes!
Gorgeous views right at sunset and the host was very warm and welcoming. Table was great and everything we had was delicious. Service was sub par for what I expect at $$$$. While waiting for our table, we were the only guests at the bar and it seemed liked the bartender was more interested in filling the service tickets and chatting with co-workers than helping her three customers. Her shift relief or back up showed up mid-cocktail, did not greet us and went about talking about shift schedules and personal issues in a loud manner. During dinner, we often found ourselves wondering where our server was and waiting to start eating because we needed things. He had a very positive attitude so I am going to chalk this up to our server being new or inexperienced. I tried to stop a bus boy for help and he ignored me and went about clearing a table even though he did eventually bring us what we asked for. Overall, food was fantastic and setting gorgeous. Service gets a below average rating. I expect top notch professionalism from a restaurant of this caliber.
There is no place as beautiful in Malibu to eat when it’s light out. The view is so pretty but you HAVE to sit outside. Inside is dreadful. A dull room where the music is too loud! The food is only ok but the service is excellent and the patio couldn’t be prettier.
