A gem. Fantastic food. Great service.
Cute restaurant in the lower east side where there were some very creative dishes that aren't commonly found elsewhere. Super romantic place if you want to bring someone on a date. Our server was amazing, super friendly, and really knew the menu well. Would love to go again!!
I was impressed with the quality of the food at this small farm to table restaurant. Not recommended to those looking for a party atmosphere or who are into loud busy places. This is a quiet neighborhood restaurant where the food is cooked with love and care, it tastes delicious, and the wine selection is great.
Service was exceptional, food was interesting and very nicely plated, game meats are a wonderful change from "farmed" meats.
Food was just borderline okay, not at all worth the premium prices.
Every dish a 10/10. Waiter impeccable. Charming little space and farm-to-table meal options including bison tartare, foie gras and scallops, and sensational rack of lamb. Also the rabbit and venison dish were unmatched in NYC. We will return often to this hidden jewel.
The food is fantastic, the foie gras was just extremely rich to the point where I had to drink some water haha. Our server Oscar is the best in the business, I will definitely return!
We had brunch. Although the food was tasty we all (four of us) found the portions rather small. Spent a lot of money and left hungry.
It is a wonderfully quaint restaurant with fabulous food.
The food was incredibly unremarkable, but the service was attentive given the small nature of the restaurant. Wouldn’t go back.
Great atmosphere...Food was nothing but excellent. A bit expensive, but definitely worths it. Do not hesitate.
I’ve been back twice in one week. Brought my friend and then my husband, each with different tastes...but both thought the Gentleman Farmer was the quiet quintessential NYC restaurant. Solid menu, different offerings. Decent wine selection, and beers. Not really a cocktail’y place, but that’s okay. Intimate, but not too small. Service was delightfully engaging. For the life of me I could remember our waiters name, he was excellent. Not heavy handed with suggestions but wanted to make sure we made the right choice for our particular taste buds.
It’s tucked away with a small sign in window, easy to overlook but oh so worth it.
Exceptional. Highest quality ingredients, fresh, and they make it to order. Nothing is prepped ahead and the difference is obvious and wonderful! Our party had a wide range of appetizers and entrees: calamari, twice cooked risotto, rack of lamb, tournedos and salmon. Both meats were prepared perfectly as was the fish. They have a nice wine list - we had lovely wine by the glass including a Sicilian red, a sauvignon blanc and a gruener veltliner. The place is small and the intimacy is perfect. Finally, the service is great. Matt is knowledgable and welcoming. We LOVE this restaurant.
A small restaurant full of big flavors.
I great little place with romantic ambiance and outstanding personal service. The everything we ordered was a delicious modern update of traditional French cuisine. It's so tiny, it's easy to walk past without seeing, but absolutely worth seeking out and having dinner there. Highly recommend.
Fabulous from the get go. It’s the quintessential intimate Manhattan restaurant but instead of being on a sweet street on the upper west or east side it’s in a not very picturesque part of nyc.
The menu was imaginative and the quality of food and service was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back to try more from the menu.
We enjoyed brunch at this tiny cute restaurant. The french toast was especially great -- it was crusty and cinnamony, and the dish was covered in fresh fruit.
Amazing food and great service. Don't be turned off by the tiny space.
Fabulous meal...highly recommend. Cozy, very interesting menu. We will go again.
We loved our dinner at Gentleman Farmer. Every course was delicious and beautifully prepared with amazing flavors. The ambiance was lovely and reminded us of experiences in France and England. And our server was the best of all. He had a wonderful smile and anticipated our every desire. We highly recommend Gentleman Farmer and can't wait to go back.
Intimate space but amazing food and Oscar took great care of us all night! What a special discovery!
Amazing food, amazing vibe, waiters are very welcoming and nice and are looking for their customers to have the best time while enjoying the perfectly well cooked food.
Must try, one of the best restaurants in New York, especially for a date!
Gentleman Farmer was fantastic! The food was great and the service was friendly and attentive. It was our 2nd time there, and we plan to go back. It's a small, cozy space -- really relaxing and comfortable. Our waiter was super friendly and knew the menu well -- we took some of his recommendations and were not disappointed!
Intimate restaurant with great service and a nice wine selection.
Amazing food and staff. Really small and intimate space. Brought our 4 year old who ate everything!
Most delicious, healthy French Toast I’ve ever had!
As a person who will travel for great food, I highly recommend this place. Definitely order a foie gras and chocolate mousse dessert!
Went there for the first time- had visited other restaurants in the area, all were great. This one was great as well- I can only say that the food was good, but a little salty for all in my party, and it felt as if we were imposing on the waiter. Other venues in the area didn’t have that feeling. It was a good experience, but I can’t say I would recommend it or that I’ll be returning.
I went to this restaurant for my birthday 4 th of July by myself ( no friend join for me and I am from Tokyo )
I ordered Buffalo stake ( appetizer) and scallop and Foie gras , they were good taste . Scallops were cooked tender and Foie gras were mild . . Buffalo stake , I like little salty taste , so I think prepare salt & paper at table will be nice in case guest want to add them
Also if I may say , If both portion were little more , I think costs performance were good . Portion were kind of small Japanese size ( I am from Tokyo )
Owner prepared Sweets for my Birthday ( I tried to ask special sweets )
I appreciated his Kindness , it was good memory of NYC .
Owner Thank you very much !
Really enjoyed our meal here. Food very good. We had gathered for a birthday meal and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Amazing food, great service and atmosphere. Came here on our honeymoon and it was a highlight.
Great food. Our group had seven people so by the time our steak arrived it was already lukewarm. Appetizers are great and the waitress never refilled my red wine , but she refilled for other women on the table
We enjoy the evening and the food very much. It is indeed a French Provincial Restaurant. And they are few and far between. Excellent meal.
Excellent food in a tiny cozy place.
Food was excellent : innovative and tasty. Portion size are more than adequate. Wine list is extensive and wine by the glass was excellent. Restaurant is very small but cozy. Definitely recommended for the unusual dishes and great execution
We went there on a Thursday because it was a byob restaurant and found out that their corking fee was only free on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and they charge $25 on other days. That absurd price soured our evening.
Took a chance based on the Open Table recommendation and was pleasantly surprised. The menu was great but going to have to return since we couldn’t very well order one of everything. What we did have was amazing. Perfectly done scallops, curried snails and the short ribs just melted in the mouth.
I am almost reluctant to write this, since this is a very intimate venue, and I'd hate to see it become impossible to get a table, but, in all honesty, this was one of the best meals we've had in NYC and my wife and I visit at least 3 times per month. Excellent off the beaten track dishes (the Boar chop was great) and great service. This place has my highest recommendation.
Fantastic start to a wonderful evening. Charming staff and cozy dining. Food was delicious.
Yes with a few "flags" ie if its crowded it might not be so great; it needs a really good cleaning job and something done with dreary décor. One thing to be dark and cozy, another to be dreary. Appearance from street awful - even scary. Saw 3 couples come up during time there, studious look on faces then iphones up and they were off to somewhere else. Can't even read the sign, the #40 is on a door next to restaurant...confusing. Doorway is derelict looking. Unclean odor sitting in window. Didn't want to touch anything and glad I didn't need restroom! Surprised French restaurant doesn't offer Pastis nor cheese plate. Winter menu online still, indicated cheese plate. Yes, food was very good - but not over top and I'm not sure $200 worth (includes one cocktail, one beer, one wine, and tip). Are we spoiled or too fussy? No, I think we are not so Bohemian!!
Small place, great food and service!
