Genki Noodles and Sushi - Highlands Ratings and Reviews
Atlanta has limited options for sushi on sundays. This was a good place for a few friends to meet, drink a few beers and enjoy a moderately priced meal. The menu is almost too much and too complex. Would like if they narrowed it down to fewer options of their best plates and rolls.
I'm gluten-free and was sad to say goodbye to the Americanized sushi I love. You never know when they're going to squeeze soy sauce into a sauce or even to moisten the seaweed. Finding Genki has been the best - they know what gluten-free means, they list many delicious gluten-free items on the menu, and they provide gluten-free soy sauce! I'm so glad sushi is back in my life.
Chelsea greeted us after a long day/night flight in from Chicago and with open arms! They were closing and still honored out 11p reservation/arrival... she suggested this awesome sake (Goldcan) and gave us great food options. She was just a little Georgia peach! :) So sweet and helpful! It wa like having a friend of ours sit with us and "make sure we were fed," which is exactly what she said her purpose was. What a SWEETHEART! We will be back because of her and her welcoming spirit upon our arrival into Georgia.
Had a great experience on a Saturday night. I will be honest that we weren't excited bc it didn't seem like a Sat night spot but we were wrong! Sat on the back patio and had the healthiest and most delicious tuna dishes ever. Ordered the summer breeze which was tuna tartare style and included raw tuna, fresh cucumber slices and sweet mango and pineapple with homemade chips for scooping. Soooo scrumptious! We are going back this week bc we need more. We also had a side of udon noodles and fried rice. Perfection!
I love Genki and the sushi is very good every time, however the highlands location packs patrons in like a sardine can. When a couple was seated beside us we had to have an awkward conversation stating how close the tables were to each other and I was uncomfortable speaking freely the rest of the evening. I understand the space is limited but removing one table would benefit the ambiance greatly.
If you want a unpretentious sushi place that's super-casual with good food this is it. The portobello mushroom with crispy spinach was a gem and the sushi was great all at a great price. The cold zaru soba however was over-cooked which was my only complaint.
Other than that...BRAVO! I'll be back.
I was surprised to find the restaurant empty when I got there at 7. Ended up sitting at the bar because they had the large front window open to enjoy the warm weather. Our server was friendly & said she had only been there 2 weeks but still had to look at the menu to spell every thing we ordered. Including wine and fried rice. The food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality.
My girlfriend was overwhelmed by the combinations that can be gluten free in the Build a Bowl selections thanks to the extra info from manager! Sashemi was delicious, and the tuna and grilled shrimp bowls were flavorful. An experience better than imagined.. Genki is our new favorite Asian restaurant!
Genki is a great location for a very good meal. It starts with a fantastic open air front on Highlands. They have some very good, unique rolls a well as plenty of other japanese dishes for those who aren't into sushi. We had a mixed group (which included a vegan) with varied tastes and everyone enjoyed their meal. Our server was also very attentive and on the ball. I'll definitely be back.
I ordered the sashimi sampler as my dinner. There were three servings of sashimi. Each "serving" of sashimi was literally the size of my fist, and sliced into 4 one-inch slices. Waaay too thick. The Hamachi was ok, once I was able to slice it up into bite-sized pieces, the salmon was passable, but the tuna literally made me gag. It was almost as if it had been frozen, thawed, and re-frozen. Then, when it came time to pay the bill, their machine rejected three of our credit cards. Not our fault, theirs! Just a frustrating experience that we won't be re-living any time soon.
You know, I've passed Genki for about a year now and finally decided to venture in . . . what a GREAT surprise! The staff are SUPER cool . . . the ambience is great, and the food was really pretty good! I picked a steamed shrimp and veggie option to keep up with my new year's resolution, and it was perfect. I'm definitely coming back, and think it may be a great regular spot. They have valet parking in the back, so bring an extra $3-5 to tip. Really, you'll like it, AND they take reservations on OpenTable - BONUS!
Tried Genki 2 different times within the same week. Once with a small group and again with a large group. Both times everyone was extremely happy with their meals. The service was friendly and quick for a sushi restaurant. There were some very good specialty rolls with unique combinations. Overall a highly recommended place in a quaint little neighborhood of Atlanta.
Seriously, the sushi and rolls just melt In your mouth. There's no chewiness to it like a lot of other sushi that you'll find in town. Their noodle bowls are delicious as well-excellent taste and incredibly satisfying. Only downside were that the drinks were just ok, only tried a couple between myself and my finance but they got watered down pretty quickly. Regardless, this will be a new regular spot for us!
