I was very pleased with our meal and service. The Super Crunch roll is the best!
Atlanta has limited options for sushi on sundays. This was a good place for a few friends to meet, drink a few beers and enjoy a moderately priced meal. The menu is almost too much and too complex. Would like if they narrowed it down to fewer options of their best plates and rolls.
The food was great at Genki! All of the sushi we tried was delicious! We couldn't get enough of the noodles and seaweed salad either. We sat on the outside back balcony - which was a great location for a special birthday dinner! We'll be back for sure!
Really liked the restaurant but the food was not good at all. I had a meatball pasta dish and really could only eat two bites. I did not want to send back because the server was so nice. I boxed up and had to discard.
Good food and nice choices. Pricey especially the sushi dishes. Spent close to $100 for 4 people even with shared dishes..
Went for brunch, the weather was nice so the front doors were opened inviting tons of flies... couldn't wait to get out of there!
I took advantage of a Groupon I purchased to take my husband out to dinner. We had a great server and an excellent conversation with the manager Tyler. He even bought us a round of sake that was smooth! We will be back again soon!
Sushi was delish As always.
Chicken egg rolls are delicious. The back patio is very spacious! Valet parking is complimentary for the block.
The Calimari was great
I'm gluten-free and was sad to say goodbye to the Americanized sushi I love. You never know when they're going to squeeze soy sauce into a sauce or even to moisten the seaweed. Finding Genki has been the best - they know what gluten-free means, they list many delicious gluten-free items on the menu, and they provide gluten-free soy sauce! I'm so glad sushi is back in my life.
Consistently great food and service!
Most memorable is the Tiger Shrimp appetizer. It is our favorite dish. Perfect blend of spice to give it a kick! It was also fun playing trivia.
Chelsea greeted us after a long day/night flight in from Chicago and with open arms! They were closing and still honored out 11p reservation/arrival... she suggested this awesome sake (Goldcan) and gave us great food options. She was just a little Georgia peach! :) So sweet and helpful! It wa like having a friend of ours sit with us and "make sure we were fed," which is exactly what she said her purpose was. What a SWEETHEART! We will be back because of her and her welcoming spirit upon our arrival into Georgia.
Had a great experience on a Saturday night. I will be honest that we weren't excited bc it didn't seem like a Sat night spot but we were wrong! Sat on the back patio and had the healthiest and most delicious tuna dishes ever. Ordered the summer breeze which was tuna tartare style and included raw tuna, fresh cucumber slices and sweet mango and pineapple with homemade chips for scooping. Soooo scrumptious! We are going back this week bc we need more. We also had a side of udon noodles and fried rice. Perfection!
I had a good sushi meal. Overall, I wish there was less rice on some of the specialty sushi rolls.
Had a great experience. My date enjoyed her sushi.
Alright so this was our first time eating there. The atmosphere was great. Dimly lit and big booths so it's a little private. Service was great! Food was really good. It was pretty much on point. I'd go here again and again.
I love Genki and the sushi is very good every time, however the highlands location packs patrons in like a sardine can. When a couple was seated beside us we had to have an awkward conversation stating how close the tables were to each other and I was uncomfortable speaking freely the rest of the evening. I understand the space is limited but removing one table would benefit the ambiance greatly.
If you want a unpretentious sushi place that's super-casual with good food this is it. The portobello mushroom with crispy spinach was a gem and the sushi was great all at a great price. The cold zaru soba however was over-cooked which was my only complaint.
Other than that...BRAVO! I'll be back.
I was surprised to find the restaurant empty when I got there at 7. Ended up sitting at the bar because they had the large front window open to enjoy the warm weather. Our server was friendly & said she had only been there 2 weeks but still had to look at the menu to spell every thing we ordered. Including wine and fried rice. The food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality.
I had tried their noodles before but never the sushi. I wasn't crazy about it. The tuna tataki was a big disappointment and expensive for what it was. The rolls weren't much better either.
I really enjoyed it, the food was really good, and came out in a timely fashion. Great service, and they have great prices.
Expensive. Lots of japanese restaurant have better food and better value for your money.
The sushi is so flavorful. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is really nice. I can't wait to go back
My girlfriend was overwhelmed by the combinations that can be gluten free in the Build a Bowl selections thanks to the extra info from manager! Sashemi was delicious, and the tuna and grilled shrimp bowls were flavorful. An experience better than imagined.. Genki is our new favorite Asian restaurant!
Genki is a great location for a very good meal. It starts with a fantastic open air front on Highlands. They have some very good, unique rolls a well as plenty of other japanese dishes for those who aren't into sushi. We had a mixed group (which included a vegan) with varied tastes and everyone enjoyed their meal. Our server was also very attentive and on the ball. I'll definitely be back.
I ordered the sashimi sampler as my dinner. There were three servings of sashimi. Each "serving" of sashimi was literally the size of my fist, and sliced into 4 one-inch slices. Waaay too thick. The Hamachi was ok, once I was able to slice it up into bite-sized pieces, the salmon was passable, but the tuna literally made me gag. It was almost as if it had been frozen, thawed, and re-frozen. Then, when it came time to pay the bill, their machine rejected three of our credit cards. Not our fault, theirs! Just a frustrating experience that we won't be re-living any time soon.
Great neighborhood restaurant serving sushi in the Highlands. Sushi is fresh and very laid back atmosphere.
You know, I've passed Genki for about a year now and finally decided to venture in . . . what a GREAT surprise! The staff are SUPER cool . . . the ambience is great, and the food was really pretty good! I picked a steamed shrimp and veggie option to keep up with my new year's resolution, and it was perfect. I'm definitely coming back, and think it may be a great regular spot. They have valet parking in the back, so bring an extra $3-5 to tip. Really, you'll like it, AND they take reservations on OpenTable - BONUS!
The food is good but they kept on rushing us. Wanted to get rid of our plates very fast even though we were still eating. It is OK..
Good food and vibe. Cramped when seated at back of restaurant.
The food was okay, I had the Super crunch sushi roll, I have had better (too much cream cheese). Overall it was okay, service was awesome though, its a tight, but I may go back.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a place that is open for late lunch with excellent quality food. It is always hard to find anything good after 2 pm. I'll definitely be coming back for more.
Very good food is wonderful. great service, kid friendly, and romantic
We had a great time! Sushi was wonderful! Service was great, thanks Joel! Drinks were delicious! Atmosphere would have been just as good if u could not see the dumpsters from the patio.......a little more fencing would go a long way.
Tried Genki 2 different times within the same week. Once with a small group and again with a large group. Both times everyone was extremely happy with their meals. The service was friendly and quick for a sushi restaurant. There were some very good specialty rolls with unique combinations. Overall a highly recommended place in a quaint little neighborhood of Atlanta.
Seriously, the sushi and rolls just melt In your mouth. There's no chewiness to it like a lot of other sushi that you'll find in town. Their noodle bowls are delicious as well-excellent taste and incredibly satisfying. Only downside were that the drinks were just ok, only tried a couple between myself and my finance but they got watered down pretty quickly. Regardless, this will be a new regular spot for us!
Sushi roll was outstanding, Tuna used for the Summer Breeze entree was very bland. We would dine here again, but only if we were in the neighborhood. We would not drive into the city again specifically to eat here
Great service and the food was delicious I would go back the deal was also great lots of food and the fried Oreos were out of this world
