There were rice kernels, peas, etc. on the grill from the last meal while ours was cooked (gross). The chef did not do the cooking entertainment we have come to expect and saw at the table next to us and seemed like he did not care. Food was sloppily prepared, meat was not cut all the way through with multiple pieces strung together, etc. The shrimp appetizer and vegetables were very good, but the onion soup was inedible and my filet mignon was not very good. I have never written a poor review of a restaurant before.
First time here. We were not pleased with portion size for the price. My appetizer came after the meal. I asked for more broth for appetizer & a man brought it out cold as my water. All together disappointed. Last time here, will not be returning.
Umpteenth time I’ve been here. Today’s experience was outstanding ! Sushi roll buffet is a always a great experience.
The food was awesome. Service was great. We went there for my sons' birthday and am thinking of going there for my birthday. They even gave him a birthday dessert. That was a plus.
Would recommend lowering the price or not charging ‘Adult Share Plate’.
We went there for my birthday and this is my second time going. Love the food and drinks !!!
The service was a bit slow but overall pretty good. Unfortunately the food was not. I ordered the chicken & steak habachi, and the chicken was extremely rubbery and bland. The steak was paper thin and was over-cooked. As for the rest of the meal, it was decent. The restaurant was very hot & I left smelling like cooking oil. Very disappointed. I would rather spend my money elsewhere such as at Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse for more reasonable prices & much better food.
Had a reservation for 19:30 and didn’t get seated until 20:15. The other guests at our table had the same issue with a 19:00 reservation and they were seated 5min before us. We weren’t able to hear our cook due to the noise level at the time. Some things were out of our control such as the little children running around through the tables while we were waiting. Food was decent though. Drinks were good and our waitress was friendly.
Great dining experience, friendly staff, great food. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Will be back!
Going on a date on any Saturday night can be interesting especially when it comes to finding a place to enjoy dinner and each other. I highly recommend Genjis!! The manager, Ryan, is first class and runs a great dining experience. As a business owner myself, I’m always very impressed with people who can handle potential negative situations and turn them into excellent experiences. Cheers to Ryan and his staff for managing the large crowds and providing that special date atmosphere at Genjis! Food is excellent, service is solid, and the ambiance is amazing. Definitely a hot spot!!
I had made a reservation and our seats were available upon arrival. Food section was excellent! The four of us had excellent combination dinners. From appetizers to desert there was not a drop off in quality and quantity. I have been to Japan many times and the atmosphere and Teppanyaki is equivalent to the restaurants in Japan.
I would recommend Genji to anyone!
Genji is great for large groups. The service was outstanding and everyone had a wonderful time.
I had a great time with my friends and the sushi buffet it was awesome and hardly costed anything
Great food. Great chef.
Service is horrid. Food presentation Unimpressive for what you're paying. Wouldn't recommend.
Been there quite a few times now with my significant other. Always a pleasure, and a fun place to eat Hibachi style steak while they grill it in front of you with some cool acrobatic tricks thrown in for your amusement. Ambiance is great, even if you decide not to sit at the live grill. Food is authentic and their sushi is one of best I've had, and I'm very picky about my sushi! The staff is very friendly and caring and the service is quick. All in all, great value.
Food was excellent. Steak and lobster cooked to perfection. Lots of items to choose from. Service was very good. Enjoyed the restaurant. Definitely would go back.
The food was good. I had the shrimp and filet combination. Our chef was fun and the people at the table were interesting. It was a place to have a nice leisurely meal.
Great food, the chefs always put on a great show!
The layout of the restaurant is really nice. The ambience is inviting and the food was excellent.
Just ok. Food could have been more, varied
January 25 was our anniversary, I consider your restaurant the very best in Michigan. My family and friends knows that to. I'm a sous chef and the experience over all is wonderful. I'll be back next year. Thank you sincerely, Mr. Andre Wilson.
The service was very slow. The chef was not entertaining and he hated his job. But it wasnt the 1 hr wait with a reservation that was annoying. It was the fact that our server forgot to enter our dinners! The chef walks out like oh sorry i dont know what happened. Then the manager was being kind of nice about it. The server didnt bother saying sorry and just dodged us the entire night. He also took our order last amongst the table.. we were the first ones there. It was me and a friend and it was his birthday. It was a disasterous night. Serious mood killer.
Best Hibachi style steakhouse in South East Michigan. Whether you are looking for a fun family dining experience at the grill with the master chefs or wanting a more quaint dining experience at their private tables you can't go wrong with a night out at Genji's. They also have a sushi bar with amazing options.
I did not believe, until this meal, that sashimi could be as soggy as what we were served. The texture was grainy, it tore easily, and it felt mushy on the tongue. One piece was still partially frozen.
The proper response would have been to not serve any sashimi or nigiri that day.
Our server offered to replace our sashimi and nigiri with sushi rolls which we accepted making sure to only get fried items.
I will return but on heightened alert and ready to refuse poorly prepared items. I recommend anyone reading this to do likewise. I don’t want to give up on getting good sashimi/nigiri in the Novi area.
I hesitated writing a review because the more people who know about Genji's the more crowded it will get! That will cause us problems when we return! My wife and has a 7:30pm Saturday night reservation. We arrived on time but due to the Hibachi grills being a bit booked, we had about a 10 minute wait for our spot (very reasonable). Dinner was about 1.5 hours long between the cooking and eating. Food was excellent too! We both had the Filet and brought home the leftovers - no way we could eat all of it in one sitting. The chef was very personable yet not overly intruding. Overall, highly recommend it. This is the 2nd time I've been there and we'll hopefully be bringing my extended family there in a few weeks.
Walking in I was immediately hit with a smell of grease. Same as I experience at PF Chang's so maybe it's just me. We has a really bad service experience but the supervisor and manager intervened which helped save our experience. Sushi was fresh, hibachi grill entrees were good. Nothing wow'd us. Wine list was sparse.
Service was slow...server was swamped with tables. Felt bad for him but didn’t make for a great experience.
Where do I begin ? The most unorganized restaurants I have ever been to, it's a shame, the manager, White Male with glasses is really a mess, throwing his staff under the buss any chance he got, our waiter was just as bad, waited 45 mins for a table after we made reservations earlier, we asked if our table wasn't ready yet that we would like to have sushi at the bar for appetizers, the hostess then asked the manager if that was possible he said no that we would have to wait until we got to our grill style table, 20 minutes later still waiting to be seated, the manager walks up to us and says "you can go ahead and get sushi at the bar now, it looks like it's going to be a wait for your table, so you would actually be doing me a favor" My husband and I just looked at each other like wth.... The only thing good about this place was the food, I feel bad for the chefs, don't give me wrong it wasn't the best that I've ever had, but it wasn't the worst. But the service was definitely the worst.
My family and I had a great time celebrating my mother's bday! The kids enjoyed there selves as well... Hallal menue! Wil be back
Went there on New Years Eve, so pretty crowded but what a fun time. Quick service at a Teppanyaki Table for 8. Waitress and Teppanyaki cook was engaging and put on a great show. I will definitely go back.
Very good value, food was good. Service was a bit slow but it was very busy.
Great food and atmosphere for a friend’s holiday get together! Loved the whole experience.
We always eat out Christmas Eve. This was our first visit to Genji and it was fantastic, from the food to the service. Our cook, Jerome, was fun and we will be back. Thanks to everyone at Genji.
On Dec 20th, I made an OPENTABLE reservations for Dec 21st for 11:30AM. About three hours later, I changed it to Dec 21st for 12 Noon instead.
I arrived Genji on Dec 21st @ 11:59AM and was told by the hostess that she had already cancelled my reservation and I am considered a no-show. I also presented her with my email confirmation from OPENTABLE of my 12 noon reservations. She seemed flustered but then proceeded to get me seated. She insisted that I had an 11:30 reservations even though I showed her a confirmation email from OPENTABLE proving that my reservations is for 12 noon.
A few minutes later, I received a rather stern email from OPENTABLE essentially scolding me for being a no-show, and advising me on how being a no-show can cause hardships on a restaurant. I replied via email to OPENTABLE that I am NOT a no show, that I have confirmation from OPENTABLE showing my reservations have been changed to 12 noon. So far, no response from OPENTABLE, after sending them several email messages explaining my circumstances.
Bottom line: It's quite frustrating when mistakes caused by others becomes my problem to address....
Back to the lunch: I had Genji's sushi buffet which is excellent. My guests enjoyed their bento boxes. I've dined here several times over the past few months and enjoyed it. The only catch is everything they offered in the buffet are in ROLLS, which means you have to consume lots of rice along with it. I wish they have both rolls and nigiri. At the prices they charge, it's one amazing value. I've been here for dinner (teppanyaki) and that was extremely enjoyable too.
I really enjoy Genji but OPENTABLE and restaurant's reservation system seems a bit out of synch, and somehow, I felt that the hostess was blaming me. I am still not sure what I did wrong.
We booked a small office party (4) people. When we arrived we were told that the restaurant would not seat us at a Hibachi table as we did not have (5) in attendance. The young lady at the from counter went to speak with a Manager at my insistence and she came back and repeated they would not seat us. I gathered the other (3) in my party and we walked out. Moments later a young lady with common sense met us in the parking lot stating they could seat us. A couple of problems: (1) When we booked the reservation through Open Table we were not advised of the seating limitations. or we would have looked elsewhere (2) The front staff and apparently management did a poor job a providing customer service.
I commend the young lady (Sky was her name I believe) was not a manager, but had the sense not to turn away (4) customers . BTW the restaurant was no where near capacity!
While I was thankful to the young lady that ran out to us and we had a great meal, I (a repeat customer) and my guest(s) will not be returning!
We love the sushi buffet on lunch time, always different flavors, all great food always tasty.
