My husband and I went to Genji to celebrate my birthday at the end of March 2021. The service was great, our chef was friendly and engaging, and the food was mouthwatering great. We'll definitely be back.
Our waitress was the best I’ve had in a very long time! Food was beyond delicious and our chef was fun, professional and did an absolute awesome job! 10 thumbs up!!! I highly recommend Genji in Novi!
Very unsanitary. The server at the bar took off her mask and sneezed into her hands. She did not wash her hands after she just continued to make drinks. She was also serving other tables after sneezing into her hands. Our server also wore his mask under his nose the whole time. The hostess and manager were both rude. Definitely don’t recommend especially during covid. I can’t believe the bartender took off her mask and sneezed in her hands and proceeded to touch people’s food and make drinks without washing or sanitizing.
Really great! Our waitress was super friendly and we felt very comfortable in the restaurant. The only issue I had was I hoped they’d be more strict about mask wearing.

Table for 5 at the Hibachi table. Service was slow. Waitress not too pleasant. Table and floor were filthy. No music. Food was below mediocre. Two Hearted was old and skunky, bottling date 1/20. Would not come back. This place makes Benihanna look like a Michelin restaurant.

The Server was great, but the food was undercooked despite asking for well done. Also my veggie stir fry was onions for the most part and lacked any other veggies...
We enjoyed an entertaining hibachi dinner. Drinks were good, food was delicious and our chef was fun to watch. The only downfall is that they did not have any desserts at this time. We were spaced appropriately from other guests and felt the establishment was clean and following proper covid protocols.
It was nice and quiet. I miss the good old days when it was busy and you can just go to the buffet table. Our server was very nice. But the spring rolls are a little cold. I would definitely go back.
Great value for quantity and quality of food. Hibachi chef was engaging and entertaining.
We choose a booth instead of the Hibachi grill. Food was good. Garlic butter wasn’t very garlicky.

Steak was tough and waitress was ok at best and messed up the order on both meals... it was fixed after some debate. Usually love this place hoping one time issue but thought they should know. We did not eat at a hibachi table.
This restaurant is not following Covid safety precaution such as wiping down all areas. The manager informed me that when they’re busy they do not wipe down tables there was food all over our table and chairs and floors. During Covid when extra precautions are being taken this is unacceptable
Never served after a 20 minute wait at our table. The restaurant was dirty, especially the tables and floors. I used to go to Genji all the time, it has been run down and the service is extremely in qualified. Very young servers.
Honestly, its the first time in a while my family and I went out to a restaurant and actually enjoyed the food and service!! It was our first time there and we live 45 minutes away so it was definitely worth the drive. The waitress and the cook himself were very friendly and welcoming and we will definitely be back again soon.

No Social Distancing at the entrance approx 10 people waiting just to see the hostess. No organization staff running back and forth confused. Sad experience I use to love them. Just 1 friend and I dined and they took it upon themselves to add 18% gratuity to the bill! Wow...

The chef was not entertaining and communicating well.
The meat was not cooked to the level that was requested, also there was no difference between the meat NY Strip/T Bone or Halal vs non Halal.
Our sushi took over an hour and was less than appetizing when we received it. It was soaked in spicy mayo and the tuna looked like it was ground tuna. We had another person join on us who got a non-sushi meal and was done eating before ours even arrived at the table. Poor service as well.
I was impressed by their Covid safety measures- temps and contact tracing numbers taken upon entry, but overall I was disappointed. The chef did very little beyond cooking in front of us. The main reason I chose this experience was to have a bit more than a meal. This paled in comparison to other such hibachi dining experiences at other Japanese steakhouses. Go elsewhere.
The overall experience was great! It was our anniversary so we got extra yummy food!
our overall experience was good. however, we were sat by another family (we were sharing around the grill) which was very unpleasant experience. It was my birthday celebration and this other family ruined for me.
The chef was just okay (I wish he had been delivered more), the food excellent, the environment great.
Our server was incredibly rude and when we inquired about things, she made us feel that we were troubling her. My mom asked for a frozen drink, which our server stated they do not make. She then asked for a glass of sweet red wine and was told they do not have that, and there really are very few sweet reds. At no time did she offer another suggestion. My mom ended up getting water (and she asked 2x for lemons, which she never received.) When we received our bill, we asked about our dessert. We were told that the dessert was popcorn and that it is not made on the grill in front of us on the weekend. We asked what we would get for dessert, since it is included with dinner, and she stated that she could bring us some popcorn from the back if we really wanted it. We did. Also our soup was served mid way through the meal, which we thought was odd.
The food was serious but the service awful. Even knowing that the manager did not stop by. Our cook helped more the the waitress. We never got popcorn, we never got the sushi we ordered. We got 1 water refill even though it was a bus boy . we asked 6 times for water. Nothing was done to fix how bad the service was.
