Genji Japanese Steakhouse - Reynoldsburg Ratings and Reviews
I dont apreciate the 18 percent aitomatic gratuity. I eat out several times a week and always tip well. The service is not exemplary at genji and our party of four had one check. We will not be back for that reason. The food was tasty because of the extra soy sauce and butter.
Genji is an all time favorite in my family, so of course we chose to have our annual Christmas gathering there. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Because our reservation was for 16, we got separate servers & chefs. With that said, one side went on to the main course, while the other side waited for their soup & salad. One server tried 3 times to separate the checks, & finally got it right on the 4th attempt. The food was great, it always is, yet pricey. All in all, it was just an OK experience.
The servers and hostess where very nice. The chef was excellent as always. Only draw back is if you do not go with enough people to fill your side they will add others to your party. Normally not an issue unless you get stuck with people like we where. Rude, demanding and generally not going to be pleased with anything that was done for them. That made the staff cater to them more than everyone having a fun experience, unfortunately we where trying to celebrate birthdays and we had to sit through all their demands.
We had a great time. Our chef did a great job with our food. He was not as entertaining as expected but I will take a little less entertainment as long as the food is good, and it was. Our hostess was very nice and accommodating. We were there for a birthday celebration and they did a great job of making our birthday guest feel special.
Be careful when ordering any dish with filet Mignon and your table mates order a regular steak. I unfortunately ended up with regular steak and when confronting our chef got an attitude and a lackluster response saying he could tell the manager but my whole dish had to be taken away and prepared again. Normally that wouldn't be a problem but my party was short on time so I just went with it. I just don't like paying for something and not getting it.
I won't be back unless everyone orders the same thing and that won't happen.
Besides this it is a fun and tasty experience
I am gluten intolerant and they do a wonderful job of addressing this. Carlos the chef is amazing. He is great with kids and gave my 8 year old grand daughter a wonderful experience. I would recommend asking for him if you are gluten free he was very knowledgeable. Sorry but no yum yum. They have a sweet and sour sauce that is unknown but is GF ask for it. Mix that with a little hot sauce. Delicious!
We always love coming to genjis. However, this time we felt rushed. We met a friend from out of town and met him there. We ordered and our server kept standing back staring at us all. And watched our chefs every move. The place may have had a total of 15 people so they were far from busy. As soon as our great chef prepared our food and walked away, our server (kinda tall guy with beard/mustache and Glasses) came over asked if we needed boxes. And then just stood back and watched us all eat continuing to still come ask if we we're done and needed boxes every 2-3 minutes. Worst experience we have ever had at this location. The food, the chef was wonderful. But when we have not seen a friend who lives in Virginia for couple years, we were going to sit eat relax and catch up with him. Like I said the place was basically empty and no one else was at our hibachi. Him trying to rush us and just standing within 3 ft watching us was very uncomfortable and rude.
We will be back bc we love the food just hopefully our next experience is so much better!
Great dining experience at a traditional Japanese steakhouse establishment. The food is always great, and the "show" sometimes varies, but this visit we had a very good Chef. Prices are a bit high for the area, but you are paying for the show as well as the food. And quantities are substantial. We had a child with us this time, and I must say the child's portion was VERY large!
My chef has been there for 14 years and was very good and attentive. He was well versed in Gluten Free and cooked all my stuff before he added any soy sauce to his griddle..I also had my grandson with me who is 7 and he had lots of fun with him and even brought him some chopsticks to take home after the meal..great experience
I love the food and it's a lot of fun to go with a group so you don't sit with strangers. The people we sat with this time we're VERY high maintenance and both parties have a seafood allergy and one neglected to tell the cook until after he made the shrimp. So he had to get the grill cleaned off before he could even cook our steaks and we had to wait longer to get our steak. The workers and food were wonderful but when you sit with people who are needy and complain about everything it's really hard to enjoy your meal. The manager came and checked on the tables and asked us first (my and my fiancé) if we needed refills which we did and she had them out in less than a minute! Also the girl who took our drink/food order took a very long time to check back with us and a very long time to get out salad and soup out.
I have dined at this restaurant several times before and this is the first time that I was extremely unhappy with the performance of the chef the service provided by the waitress and also when addressing my concerns to the managing staff. a big part of the service is the performance by the chef and our chef left a lot to be desiredincluded in this frustration was a waitress was very new on the job in unfamiliar with the menu items and costs and made it known to us that she was unfamiliar
It was my husband's birthday and he chose to go to the Genji! We always love to get Carlos as our chef, but he is excellent in engaging my younger son in the experience. The birthday song & pineapple was great, I like the picture of my family they took, and I know we will use the chopsticks for years to come! Thank you.
Genji Japanese Steakhouse is a great place to take kids for a different dining experience. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent! The chefs take special steps to make sure that the kids are entertained and make them a part of the experience. The only issue that we had on this visit was that the waitress was not very attentive at checking to see if we needed refills on beverages. Other than that, everything was great!
I used to love this place. Our chef wasn't very good. He didn't do nearly as many tricks as some do. He forgot to give me my scallops when he gave someone else theirs. They say their while he cooked everything else. My steak was supposed to be rare and others medium and well. But I got mine after the medium orders and before the well. It was more medium well, almost well. Our server also took forever on drinks. Still love the yum though.
Genji sent me a promo email for a $20 gift card for 2015 if I purchased a $100 gift card. I reserved a table for 10 on 12/26. The promo did not state that the gift cards would take 24 hours to activate but when I tried to purchase a gift card they explained it to me. The manager seemed like she had explained this several times. There were even signs in the restaurant for this promotion and none of them stated a 24hr activation. This just seems like bait and switch advertising and I will not return to a restaurant that tries to take advantage of a repeat customer.
We decided to bring our kids to Genji for Christmas Eve to experience hibachi. The show was pretty good...I've seen better at other Japanese Steakhouses in the country, but this was decent. The food was yummy and they gave a ton of it. My 5 year old said, "I love that place because they have fun fire with dinner!"
Genji is about more than just food. It is a complete experience. When I had the opportunity to go back to Columbus, it was number one on my "to do" list and I made my reservations well in advance. It was a new experience for my husband, and one that did not disappoint. From the fresh, delicious ingredients to the entertaining way the chefs cook right in front of the guests at the Teppan Yaki tables, Genji is definitely a restaurant that everyone should dine at least once in a lifetime.
