The quality of the Sunday Buffet has declined - very disappointing.
This was our third year, and we had high hopes of this becoming our post-Thanksgiving family tradition, but the brunch is not up to par with the Grand Geneva brand... the staff was great as always, but the food selection were nothing special and it not very well executed.
Food was great, steaks were all cooked to our liking. Sides were good but baked potato side left much to be desired (served plain with all toppings on the side??!!). Our server didn’t check on us after food was dropped off, didn’t offer us fresh pepper with our salads, and didn’t come back to take our wine order until we were done with our steaks (too late!). Not a great server considering the price point of the meals.
We were at the hotel for Thanksgiving. They had a turkey special but didn’t offer one for kids, the food was good but not spectacular. The server was almost annoyed with us for asking questions and had to get approval from the chef for minor modifications for our 9-year old, even though we were willing to pay more. Overall it was good but I expected better service and on a holiday, more flexibility to accommodate kids who have a broader palate than Mac n cheese.
Classic steakhouse; no surprises on the menu. Top shelf apps and prime steaks cooked to perfection. Been there a few times and service and food is consistently great. We haven't ventured beyond the steaks but why would you? My bride's only complaint is that the app menu is very seafood oriented. She's not a seafood person so she's not an app fan. Why not a charcuterie and a cheese plate? Stuffed mushroom caps, etc.?
However, a great restaurant. Steak is fantastic, as is the service. Can't beat eating at a former Playboy Club.
My fiance and I had a wonderful dinner at the ChopHouse. We enjoyed the selections from the menu and the wine list. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer, beef tenderloin and wagyu rib eye for entrees, and the chocolate cake for dessert. We loved it all. Tod, our server, was very friendly and knowledgable of the menus and was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!
Tamara was our waitress for Sunday brunch and we always request her...she's the best! She always smiles and checks on us often...just a genuinely friendly person! Sunday brunch at the chophouse is where we celebrate everything and Tamara always makes it more special!
The Geneva Chophouse has excellent steaks and the best Caesar Salad I've ever experienced. Good service, excellent wine and nice, quiet (but not too quiet) atmosphere. It is at the high end of what I am accustomed to spending, but it was worth every penny and I will definitely go back.
I selected this restaurant because it has great reviews and my husband loves beef. He was happy with his prime rib. If you are vegan or even vegetarian there is nothing here for you. I ordered the baked chicken, it was very blah. I get that this is a restaurant that specializes in beef, but sometimes others in the party want something else. When we go to a similar type place such as Ruth's Chris I can still get a great non beef meal.
I was surprised when our side of creamed spinach was served barely warm. The dessert menu didn't tempt us and the coffee was disappointingly weak.
This was our second time staying at the resort and dining at the Chophouse. I was very unhappy with the overall quality and service. First of all, celebrating a special event that was not even acknowledged and we were seated right near the pass/kitchen area. I ordered an appetizer that was burnt but cold on the inside and sent it back. It did take over 10 mins for someone to recognize I was not happy and the poor bus boy was the one to take my plate and told the kitchen area. When the waitress asked how it was (Another 5-10 mins later), she was walking away before she realized I said I didn't care for it. The chef at least came by to apologize, but he was only standing 10 feet away from our table. The steaks we ordered were actually very good and cooked perfectly. We watched and most plates leaving the kitchen were steaks so they are pretty good at cooking those. Lastly, I was offered a dessert (Not sure if it was to make up for the appetizer or to celebrate our occasion) I ordered the dessert and was waiting 10-15 minutes. The waitress brought our bill before the dessert was delivered and I asked if I was going to get the dessert or not. No manager stopped by to apologize for any of the mishaps. I will likely not dine here again.
The food was excellent. The wait staff worked as a team and were very attentive. Was worth the drive. Listened to the staffs recommendations as to their favorites, and the sizing of the sides that were generous.
The Grand Geneva was being decorated for the holidays and will revisit to see the completion.
The setting and service here are terrific. Very professional and friendly and efficient. The food was just OK. The best is the steak, so stick with that. The cod didn't live up to the menu description. The steak was well cooked, and they even prepared a special sauce (garlic butter) that my husband requested.
My husband and I were out for an evening without the kids. We both ordered the special two sides and we each ordered a salad. We are marcus members and were going to use our gift certificates. The waitress brought the bill and asked us to fill out the room number, tip, total and sign. Well we live local so I didn't have a room to charge it to. I put on the tip and total. When she came I told her we weren't staying. I gave her our certificates and our charge card. She stated she would subtract the certificates and then put the rest on a charge card. Perfect. Well, she came back and stated that the tip was not added on to the charge card portion and the total on the slip I was to sign was just the balance of the food that was due. My husband looked at the total on the slip and yes indeed the tip was included. We even wrote out the numbers to double check the math. She tried to collect a double tip. This action by our waitress put a damper on our entire evening. I do not have a problem giving someone well above the 20 percent if they are exceptional servers. Very disappointed. I wouldn't expect this at a 5 star resort. I will surely think twice about returning.
I’ve dined at Geneva Chophouse many times. On this occasion, I would rate the food as “average”, and significantly less enjoyable than my previous experiences. I usually have a steak, but this time chose pork chop. Poor quality, poor choice. Because the meal was disappointing, I would conclude that the menu is overpriced. I won’t make it a priority to go back.
The food was not worth the price. It was a little too "out there" for my tastes. For instance, they served my caesar salad with an anchovie on it. It was gross. There was this strange garlic and shallot garnish on my plate. My drink was too sweet, so I sent it back for another one. I ate at the Chophouse in Milwaukee years ago and it was really good, so I expected that same level of service. Maybe the restaurant has gone through some restructuring since then. But I will not be going back.
Although the atmosphere and obviance is very nice I think this restaurant might be a little bit overrated and overpriced. The $34 Filet I had was comparable to one of the Outback! It seems like a great place to go with a romantic date ...
Food was cold . Not as good as last time. We used to love it but now I don’t think we would come back. Service wasn’t the best, waitress was friendly but not as attentive as we would have liked. Would have ordered more drinks but couldn’t. Some of the food we loved coming there for wasn’t on the menu anymore. Atmosphere wasn’t the same. Lovely resort but I don’t think we would come back to this restaurant again
We wanted to try a new restaurant for our anniversary so we chose the Chophouse. I had looked at reviews online and half were great and the other half were negative. I had my doubts coming to dinner but wanted to give them a chance.
Our waitress was very attentive but we were very disappointed in the food. The French onion soup was great, but both our steaks had no flavor and were not good quality cuts. Our food was served lukewarm. We got a side of the broccoli and the asparagus. Bland and cold.
If you're looking to spend $150 for 2 for a flavorless, disappointing meal, this is the place to go. Will not be back.
