Gemma Ratings and Reviews
Even if it hadn't been a special occasion, this would have been a great meal. We enjoyed every bit of it (you should definitely try the fried olives! They sound weird, but they were really great. And I really loved the duck!) I think it was one of the three most expensive meals I've ever eaten, but it was well worth it due to the amazing food and impeccable service. I'd be willing to bet that all of their servers are great, but we know first-hand that you can't go wrong with Jason. And if that weren't enough to make it perfect . . . this was my birthday meal, and they really went out of their way to make it feel extra special (without any of that loud and annoying clapping and singing that I hate, whether it's for my birthday or anyone else's). We were a little overdressed compared to the other diners, but we didn't feel uncomfortable or out of place because of that. I highly recommend Gemma and wish I could eat there more often . . . though I guess it's a good thing we don't live nearby, or we might quickly go broke.
I know what to expect from the atmosphere...a bustling bar area and fully booked tables. It's a busy place for good reason. The service is top-notch every time and stand-by favorite dishes and drinks that never disappoint are combined with creative specials. Great for a full dinner or just a late-night stop at the bar for oysters and something from their great wine list. I always enjoy Justice when I am lucky enough to get him as my server! Good job, guys!
Just gets better and better. Seasonal vodka drink was delicious, a bit of spice, not too sweet. Manhattan also perfect. Striped bass just amazing, wonderful set and accompaniments as was the pork chop, the best ever we thought. Wine list is amazing. We are wine collectors and love Phillip Togni for example but very hard to find and it was on the list as were many other notables. By the glass selection stellar too. Service was friendly, professional and prompt. Love Gemma!
It was a wonderful experience. Gemma lived up to the reviews. Service was attentive, very knowledgeable but non invasive. The pappardelle was our favorite. The wine list is extensive but not loaded with familiar names. Trust the sommelier. Will be back soon.
We had an absolutely incredible experience at Gemma. Memorable beyond belief and certainly one of our "top ten" restaurant experiences ever. Food was impeccably prepared and presented. Food and flavors were very well integrated. Setting was energetic but not over-the-top. Wine list was comprehensive (region, varietal, vintage and price) and one of the best we've ever seen at such a reasonably-priced restaurant. For reference, we live in Chicago and were in Dallas to visit family. Regular visitors to Chicago's top venues (Michelin 1 and 1+). We'd make a special trip back to Dallas just to visit Gemma. It was incredible.
Went for our anniversary dinner- not disappointed! We had the fried olives/ pecans for a starter, which I highly recommend. My husband & I split the duck & the quail entrees- both were excellent. The chocolate ganache dessert was rich & not too sweet.
We'll go back!
Our server and the staff made our group feel very special during my friend Rosa’s birthday party. We asked for some things to be split in the kitchen and others to be brought out family style for the table and they were very accommodating and generous. Never felt pressured to leave even though we took more than our time at the table during a busy night.
Of our many excellent meals at Gemma, our total experience this time was truly stunning.
The dishes were inventive, subtle in their complexity, and completely delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection, served hot and with care. We wanted to go back the very next night...just 'cause!
Truly exceptional from the confirmation of my reservation all the way through to the birthday card and candle on my dessert. Truly fine cuisine and service. I would make this my go-to restaurant if I lived in Dallas. Alas, a drive from Austin to Gemma will be in my future very soon.
Thank you, Gemma!
Hands down the best service and meal I've had in Dallas since moving here 3 years ago. I went with a group of girlfriends from out of town after a recommendation from a co-worker. A few of my guests were from New York and Miami and have high standards for good food. Even they were impressed - there wasn't a course that didn't deliver.
