Great all the way around!
Dinner was excellent and the service was great. Highly recommend.
Everything is perfection at my favorite neighborhood spot.
Gemma continues to maintain its place as one of the best restaurants in Dallas. Incredible food, outstanding service and at a price that won't break the bank. Truly outstanding.
Service and wine menu is outstanding
The decor was less fancy than I expected, but it was friendly and inviting. Although it was pretty full for an early Thursday evening, it was not too loud. The service was outstanding: very attentive without being fussy. It seemed like everyone, from the owner to the young woman who opened the door for us was cheerful and happy to be serving us. Our food was great -- and not overly expensive. We shared the radicchio salad, and it came to us already split onto two plates -- we didn't have to do that ourselves!I had an excellently grilled striped bass, my husband had the pappardelle with braised rabbit. We were both really pleased. The accompanying vegetables were perfect, and the side of broccoli was well-seasoned. It seemed like every dish had something surprising and delightful about it. My husband had a nice apple crisp. But I have to say that the Valrhona ganache that I ordered may have been the one of the best chocolate desserts I've ever had (with the possible exception of the first time I ever tasted a molten lava cake). We had cocktails, beer, and a glass of wine, so we didn't peruse the wine list.
We were just really impressed.
Gemma is consistently great. Food is exceptional, service attentive but not pushy, ambiance that makes the dining feel both comfortable and special at the same time.
I don’t normally write reviews, as we work in the industry. But felt compelled to explain our experience. We had high hopes for Gemma, as we had heard great things. A friend and I met for our 7:45pm on reservation on a Tuesday. We were sat about 10 minutes later, and ordered drinks and apps rather quickly. Once beverages same, we ordered our entrees a few minutes after 8pm. Apps came shortly after, but we didn’t not receive entrees until 9:10pm - more than and hour after we ordered. During that time, not one person - waiter or manager - touched our table to say hello, apologize for then hour+ delay, or ask if we want a beverage refill. We didn’t not eat much, because we had lost or appetite after sitting for so long and started getting tired. 10 minutes after we got the entrees, they came by asking if we wanted to go boxes and forced the dessert menu down. It felt as if we were being rushed and pushed to leave. Sadly don’t think we will return due to the poor customer service.
Very good food and service was excellent. I recommend and will return.
Menu doesn't appear to be particularly vegan friendly but seemed to have some options. I called and was assured it would be no issue. The food was fabulous. I treated my best friend for her birthday and we were thrilled. Outstanding service.
Outstanding dining experience from start to finish.
Everything was wonderful!!
They always seat us at the table where we had our first date and include a sweet card, Prosecco and a nice note with dessert! Great customer service!
Amazing food! We tried lots of different things and it was all great! Highly recommend!
THEY MUST'VE HAD A BAD NIGHT THE FOOD WAS REALLY POOR. CANNOT RECOMMEND.
Gemma's quality has remained high over their four plus years history; seems like the chicken and duck dishes were a little better than the fish on this visit.
My girlfriend is a big fan of this restaurant. I was not disappointed… Great atmosphere and very good food.
We came here for my hubby's birthday. When I made the reservation I asked if they did anything special for birthday's. They had a Happy Birthday card from Gemma on the table which was nice and the chef gave us complementary fried olives. We're not big on olives but they were pretty good. The service was nice, not over the top which we appreciated and our meal was very good. I thought the crab salad for $18.50 was too expensive but I love crab so I ordered it anyway. It was the only thing that I thought was just "Okay". I think it had mayonnaise mixed with the crab and that was a let down. For dinner, my husband had the steak and I had the amberjack....both were cooked and flavored to perfection. We also ordered a side of the broccolini and shiitake mushrooms. The atmosphere was casual, laid back. We will be back.
We have been coming to Gemma regularly since it opened and it has never disappointed. We moved to Dallas from LA and felt right at home
in the California style restaurant. We are foodies and it just does not get better than Gemma. We look forward to our next visit.
This was a Top 3 dining experience for my wife and I. Each and every plate from the turkey meatball appetizer to the duck entree was knock-your-socks-off delicious. Culinary magic bringing out so many intense flavors. The cocktails and wine were excellent. The setting was quaint and inviting. And the staff were the most professional and accommodating as we have enjoyed in many restaurant meals -- real professionals. All in all, not one negative we can think of. We will be bringing our friends here!
Food was nothing special for the price.
Main course pasta was incredibly salty.
We had a great time- great food, drinks, service, and ambiance!
Gemma was great, but not out of this world. Drinks were excellent as well as menu choices. Food is tasty, but salty. Quarters are a little tight, service is solid, but a little much. Overall a nice dining experience. I'll return.
Gemma has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. This time a bit underwhelming. Service more impersonal. Experience less special. Food was good but not great, as it always has been in the past. I’m kinda bummed, actually, to see an old friend fading.....I will give it another try. I want us to work, Gemma!!!!😘
This was my first experience at Gemma. I was expecting it to be very good, but it was absolutely incredible. The reservations were made about 6-8 weeks in advance, so it's a hard spot to get a table at, but the wait was more than worth it. My partner and I visited on a Friday night (2/16/18) so it was pretty crowded but not *too* crowded.
We started off with cocktails: a blood orange margarita for me and a persephone for my date. Both were so, so delicious. My only complaint (if you can call it that) was that the persephone, which comes in a rather tall glass, did not come with a straw. This obviously didn't detract from the taste at all, but it just made it a little difficult to drink. So my advice would be to just ask for a straw with the persephone, should you order one.
We ordered the Turkey Meatballs as our appetizer. Although they were very enjoyable, they could have done with a little more flavor. For our main course, my date had the rigatoni while I had the Brandt prime flat iron steak. My date loved her Rigatoni and I cannot say how great the flat iron steak was. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had, and I love that it was served with french fries. It was a lot of food and it was all delicious. Highly recommend.
Service fantastic, extremely helpful and friendly. Enjoyable ambiance. Great selection of wine. The food was good but far from outstanding.
Friendly, attentive service. Crab cakes delicious and as flavorful and perfectly textured beef (Flat Iron steak) I have ever had. It was quite amazing. Valrhona Ganache a fitting end to an exceptional dining experience.
My party of 4 went to Gemma on Valentine's Day, plus, it was my daughter's birthday. We haven't gotten to celebrate on her birthday in years because she works I the hospitality industry. This was a very special night, and the staff at Gemma made out as special as out was.
They greeted her with birthday greetings. The hostess was wonderful. We got there early and had some drinks. I stead of having us stand at the bar to order, she wrote down what we wanted and gave it to the bartender.
The food and service were outstanding from beginning to end. We will absolutely be back!
We love being able to go late at night being in the service industry. The oysters and reverse happy hour are a great value of course but the service and food are always worth what ever price they may be at the time. The food and atmosphere make it easy to have a wonderful meal and date experience here.
Never disappoints its always a great visit.
Great food, good service, wonderful time. Could not recommend more.
Gemma has become come a favorite spot for my wife and I. I love the pre-meal biscuits- always fresh and hot. In addition, everyone is committed to providing good service-from the hostess to the wait staff. I was a little disappointed in service this most recent visit. I specifically booked the date before Valentine's because I know there's usually a rush and great service can be a challenging. Unfortunately, that was the case this time. After we were seated there was seemingly nobody assigned to our table. Then after an uncomfortable amount of time the bartender/waiter came by. Scott was very gracious and while he did his best to take care of us, it was quite the challenge to go from the bar to our table. As a result, our service was both delayed and disappointing. In addition, my wife's order was wrong when the food finally came out. The manager, came over and graciously apologized. I'm not one to complain but date nites are a logistically nightmare when you have a small child. That being said, I still plan to go back to Gemma's. I'm guessing it was just an off night. Food definitely made up for the service.
We are never disappointed at this restaurant! Food was exceptional. The duck was excellent! The Sommelier was wonderful. I could keep going on... We asked for a special table and Gemma was quick to make it happen. Great place!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. I have never had a dish I didn't love. I want everything on the menu. The fried olives and warm pecans are a must to start with! The staff was amazing! The hostess sat us immediately at 7pm even though our rezzy was at 715pm. When she called to confirmed she asked if it was a special occasion and I said not really but I started a new job. Well, the restaurant had a congrats card waiting at the table. It was so sweet. The waiter was on point and so friendly. Love this place!
The service was excellent! The restaurant is a little loud, but the patio looked amazing for nice weather days.
Everything was outstanding!
We've seen rave review after rave review about Gemma, and finally decided to come before the symphony. Alison, our server, was attentive, friendly, informative and helpful on recommendations. The by-the-glass Chardonnay (lowest price = Iron Horse at $17) was a little pricey, but it was great wine.
My wife had red snapper and proclaimed it the best in town. I had the duck, which Alison advised was Asian-style with a 5-spice rub. It was absolutely delicious. (We also split a very nice, tasty Caesar salad.)
Gemma isn't close to us, but when we have anything going on Uptown or downtown, we will be back to this wonderful little restaurant!
Great time. Service And food was excellent.
Great food, excellent service
