We eat here before we go to see shows at the Freight and Salvage. Easy to reserve online at Open Table. I like the varied menu and I often try something new. Good vegetarian selections.

We've been going here for a number of years on Sundays before matinees at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and have always enjoyed the food and friendly service. Only recently have reservations become necessary which only attests to its popularity

Very slow service at lunch.... 40 minute wait to be served
Food pretty good, though.

We like to eat here before going to plays at Berkeley Rep which is down the street. On this visit, we had the coconut milk pad thai, crispy rice salad with chicken, duck curry, and pineapple coconut rice. We all loved our food. The service e is always gracious and efficient.

Went with an old colleague and we had a great lunch, me with the flank steak and he with the chicken with some extra spices.

The food was fresh and delicious. The flavors literally popped in your mouth.

This was my first time at this restaurant and I would go back!

Between the traditional green papaya salad (which is spicy; believe their scorecard.) and the grilled salmon salad (salmon fillet was tasty and moist), I can't argue with the food. But the acoustics made my dining partner so uncomfortable, we had to leave before I had finished my salad. I did take it home and enjoyed it just as much there. IF noise doesn't bother you, then give it a whirl!

I'm a veg: I ordered the pah ram, but received an order of pad thai. Service was a bit slow, and we had a show, so I ate what I was given. It was good. The thai ice tea there is amazing!

There is probably no Thai person in the kitchen.... I wonder why people like this place on Yelp? They ran out of Duck so we couldn't order their signature dish - Duck & Mango roll...had the Jicama & Green Papaya Salad, Crispy Rice Salad, Beef Pra Ram, Chicken Satay & Crab Fried Rice... Sorry but we are not going back.

Food improved, service good; nonetheless, my companion for table for two reservation in my name was not in fact reserved. There was seating she entered, I joined her. Overall, experience overall is improved and goodC we appreciated the choices and our choice for lunch.

If you're going to see a show at Berkekey Rep, this is a decent option strictly for its proximity to the theater. The food was okay but rather bland, which is not something that comes to mind when I think of Thai food. I ordered the green curry eggplant with chicken. The curry was bland, there were only two pieces of eggplant and little chicken...lots of carrots, though.

But, for a decent pre-show meal Gecko Gecko is adequate.

They have amazing dishes with a hearty amount of delicious mango!

Everything about the place & our lunch there was nice, except for the noise! If you could figure out some way of noise reduction, this could become the 'go-to' place for group lunches. Thanks

I eat here often, because of its convenience to the Berkeley theaters, and always enjoy my meals. The food is unusual for aThai restaurant, portions are large, service is fine, street parkiing is available though difficult.

The big advantage to this place is that it is across the street from the theatres so you can get a quick bite before a show. I lived in Thailand and love the spicy but not mouth searingly hot cuisine. This food just missed the mark altogether for me. The satay was tough, the sweet potato fries were greasy, the summer rolls were large but missing the signature flavors, and the pad Thai and tofu eggplant were bland. We won't be back.

Restaurant was convenient for us (1 adult and 3 kids) dining before attending the show at Freight and Salvage theater. I was pleasantly surprised, special on the menu was a combo of the fresh spring roll and classic pad Thai. Just not enough tofu in the dish for all the kids.

I'm vegetarian. My husband is not. We both are always pleased with our dishes. Their original Pad Thai is my favorite. Soup is excellent. We often finish off the meal sharing a trio of ice cream scoops (flavors: tea, mango, and coconut). Mmm. Great place to go before -- or after -- theatre!

Had no record of our reservation through Open table but gave us a seat anyway. The place was crowded with theatre goers. Make sure you make a reservation. Not sure about using Open Table.

The restaurant is just down the street from the Berkeley Rep which makes it an easy place to meet friends and have a bite to eat either before or after the theater. We love coming here because there's good food and at a reasonable price. Love this place.

good food, close to downtown Berkeley BART and quick service makes this a convenient pre-theater choice. Be sure to make a reservation!

We attend Berkeley Rep plays and Gecko Gecko is very conveniently located just down the block. This is evidenced by almost no reservations available on matinee days. So make reservations. It was a hot afternoon, so I ordered the chicken mint salad while my husband ordered the luncheon special. Their prices are reasonable and the food delicious. We'll be back.

One member of our party asked the waiter how spicy a dish was - she did not want very spicy and said so. Waiter said it was not too spicy. It was so spicy she could not eat it. They took back the order with no charge and gave her another order. My dish was noted as moderately spicy on the menu. It was very spicy. I enjoyed it but will not order another item labeled moderately spicy on the menu.

The restaurant is pleasant, but the food is mediocre. The biggest plus is the fact that it is close to Berkeley Rep.

The best thing about the food at Gecko Gecko is its freshness. The veggies are always great and their portion sizes are good. Love their spring rolls with shrimp!

My husband and I had "jammin' salmon," which is tasty and includes three different green vegetables: yay! Might never want to have anything else. A friend who works nearby introduced me to it, and gave this endorsement: Although it's a place she goes to from work, she chose to come here with husband to celebrate their anniversary. Our lunch there the other day (12:30 Thursday) had really high noise level, but when I went before with my friend it was quiet and they had very tasteful background music, which I'm not even a fan of background music in restaurants at all, but this time I liked it. "Gecko" decorative motif is charming.

Went pre-theater to grab some lunch, Sunday. Not great as Thai salads were bland. Had also, eggplant/mushroom/chicken/basil. Menu advises marinated mushrooms. WOW, it was overly marinated with salt!! And, i like salt,.. but this was too much. Rice was not fresh, microwaved up from previous day. I am asian , so i know.
I don't recommend this place. There are so many other places to go to .
