This restaurant is no longer in open table but let us sit and dine anyway. A very good restaurant. Open table needs to remove them off their list so no major disappointment occurs.

Gazen has been a reliable go to restaurant when you have a taste for Japanese izakaya food. all the dishes we ordered were great, including the agedashi mocha, shiso wrapped ahi, hamachi takuan sushi roll, and the chicken over rice.
Happy hour drink prices were a plus (if you eat before 6:30).

The ambiance is very pleasant. Reasonable prices. Fresh tofu was unique and very good. The mochi with cheese appetizer was unusual and surprisingly good. Pitcher keeps beer cold without watering it down...excellent! Overall very nice experience.

Recomended by a friend. Have dined there twice. Even my 4 year old grand-daughter enjoyed everything especially the Tofu and desserts.
Very family friendly for those with youngsters.
The food is extraordinary. Going back again soon with neighbor island guests.

Gazen is one of my favorite restaurants in Hawaii. The chef really knows what he's doing. The dishes are excellent and incorporate the best creativity in texture, taste, and temperature. Simply brilliant.

My favorite restaurant in Honolulu. Nice get away from the hubbub of Waikiki, but a short taxi ride. Extraordinary selection of delectable treats. Dont miss the tofu sampler and the 5 type of sashimi spread. Be ready to stretch and try some things and you wont be sorry.

The food was great but I think the staff forgot about us. We had to wait a long time between dishes and had to remind them many times about our orders. They had communication problems between staff. They charged us twice so we had to explain that we paid already.

I've liked Gazen in the past and still like it, which is why we returned there on Thursday to welcome a new member of our ohana. We enjoyed the happy hour specials and especially the tofu sampler, the beef tataki, the gobo, the Jpn omelette, and several other things. Service this time was exceptionally good.

New waiter kinda didn't know the offerings very well, messed up our order a little, but no biggie. Would have enjoyed it more, but will come back. Love the $3.00 happy hour drinks

Good variety. Good for those who like to share dishes. Happy Hour pricing and sake were good choice. Selected from both Happy Hour menu as well as Regular menu and had good variety for our party of four.

Great as always. Slightly more affordable izakaya fare than the others around town. Housemade tofu always pleases. Shima Aji and Hiramasa sashimi from Japan were great. Love their salmon and ikura chazuke.

Food was good but expensive! Best deal was beer on happy hour menu. Very limited amount of items (3-4 items) on happy hour menu. We ended up ordering food and drinks from regular menu. Would like to see more variety on happy hour menu.

we had the smaller room on the right which was OK except that the larger room on the end had a party which made it kinda noisy. The food was good and tasty and the fries were delicious; we had 4 kids and they enjoyed the food. We came at "happy hour" and the pitcher beer "hit the spot." It was the 2nd time for us and we enjoyed it.

The service was good and we have been here many times. Just a note to the management and staff, especially the one who smokes. Perhaps wash your hand after smoking before serving as our server smells like ashtray when she was serving us. other than that, we love and enjoy the food.

Dine here for the homemade tofu, but due to an issue with refrigerator, no tofu or all choices of dessert. Disappointment. invited out of towners for a local Japanese experience. (Armenians) Would recommend notification via open table reservations, so diners could decide if reservations should be rescheduled.

The food was very tasty but sparse. Too much $ for little portions. Ambience was nice although at times the service was a bit slow with the delivery of food. Seemed they needed more servers. I would go back again now that I know what to order.

Had a good time at Gazen. The waiter made a mistake with our order, but offered to not only take it off the bill, but also replace it with the correct item. We were stuffed, so we appreciated the gesture, but passed as we didn't want to waste the food. My wife was a bit disappointed, as it is what she wanted, but I was really happy with the mistake.

Service was extremely fast... the food came out pretty quick. It was nice to get food for our kids as they can get fussy when waiting too long.

The beef tongue was a bit salty, but other than that, everything was spot on.

Would definitely come back.

Food was great. Sesame tofu , kampachi carpaccio, and agedashi mochi and the fried rice were excellent. Can;'t remember the rest of what we had but all were good.

One complaint was that the restaurant AC was on the blink and it was uncomfortably warm the whole time we were there. No apology from anyone! It was bearable with a tall cool draft beer:)
