On the rural banks of the River Thames, in the quintessential London neighbourhood of Richmond, sits our iconic boathouse restaurant and waterside terrace, which in the summer hosts another of our ‘Asado’ outdoor barbeques. A striking centre piece of our terrace boasts one of London’s oldest Plane trees, a beautiful feature for arguably one of London’s most sought-after alfresco dining spots.
With our panoramic glass-paneled exterior we have glorious 360-degree views of Richmond Bridge and Petersham Meadows from our well-dressed dining-room and bar. An idyllic location for those long weekend lunches after a dog-walk in Richmond Park or for gathering the family and friends to celebrate those special occasions.
So, when you next take a stroll along the towpath, join us for an unforgettable steak, sampling our superb Argentinian beef and British seafood, or relax at the bar with a glass of wine and watch the boats sail by.

Went for a Sunday roast and the website specifically said they could not guarantee roast dinner after 6, so we made sure to book for 5. We got there, we were seated, ordered drinks and only after looking at the menu for 10 minutes were we told they had run out of the Sunday roast option. Extremely disappointing and had we’ve been told this from the beginning and before we ordered drinks we would have gone somewhere else.
We then obviously had to make different choices, I ordered the fillet with the side I wanted, our waiter then came back and said they had run out of my side dish as well. The food finally came, and was tasty enough but not amazing. We then wanted dessert, ordered the cheesecake and quite some time after ordering the waiter had to come back and say that - surprise, surprise - they were out of the cheesecake as well.
Obviously this is not the waiters fault and I feel bad for him really as by the third time he seemed understandably embarrassed to tell us that they didn’t have what we wanted. In all fairness, the ambiance was lovely, the few choices of meals they had left were okay, but wouldn’t say up to expectations and I feel we got little value for our money. Just extremely disappointing that they were short of so many things on a Sunday evening when it’s really quite obvious they will have a lot of people in.
When we arrived everyone greeted us so warmly and the night just kept getting better. It was our anniversary and the receptionist organised us a beautiful window table. The view was beautiful. The service and food was perfectly matched. We got the chateaubriand and were not disappointed- our waiter recommended the perfect sides and wine. Will certainly be coming back here
An absolutely beautiful restaurant. Food was perfectly cooked!
The staff at gaucho went out of their way for us to enjoy our evening :)
A Wonderful experience. Thank you to everyone involved. A great meal.
Cant wait to return here! The atmosphere was great- and the food was delicious. The service was also really swift and our waitress was super attentive. She gave loads of fantastic recommendations and we loved every single one! From the wine to the steaks. Everything was perfect!
Really nice - was rushed because of 10pm curfew but understand that’s the way it goes! Was lovely, steak was really top notch and probably the best I’ve had.... sides delicious, service superb and the vibe in there is really good. Can’t recommend enough.
Food good and charming service but VERY noisy .Also noticed a group of 7 around a table , breaking the regulations
Superb steak. Really enjoyed the beef carpaccio. Great wines. Excellent service. Preferred the old sides, it lacked salad on this menu - but that is only a small issue. Really the only real improvement they should make is to switch on the Air Conditioning, it was too damn warm.
We really enjoy Gauchos and will be back.
We had an amazing night at Gaucho! The food was incredible, waiters were excellent and there was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant! Can’t wait to go back and would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone!
Food was great as always, but we were disappointed as had called in advance to check that the bottomless roast was being served and were told it was - this was our sole reason for booking on this particular day. When we arrived we were told it was no longer being served as it finished at 5pm. We were given a discount which was very kind but were gutted we didn’t get the right info on the roast.
The food is and service is very good. The resturant has a outside terrace overlooking the river so we were able a to dine with friends while complying with the COVID-19 level 2 restrictions. The patio heaters are not very hot, so need to wrap up well
We couldn’t fault the food or the service, but I wish they had told us about the last orders at 9:15 as we had booked a table for my daughters 18th & it felt very rushed!
I would of liked to have had more time
Fantastic food but felt it was rather crowded given current restrictions and there were groups who were very clearly from different households
Good food and service - very expensive though.....
Quite surprised that they now make you pay for the bread and also the size of the Gaucho burger has gotten so much smaller which was a shame. I am assuming they need to make up for their losses with COVD.
I often go to Gaucho in Richmond, the view and atmosphere is amazing. Food is good and staff are lovely!!
The steak is amazing, although expensive, but really good. However, we've been a number of times and the sides really need work. We want vegetable with our steak, not just chips, but the choices are limited, and the amount of veg as well as way they're cooked (we've tried various ones) always let the meal down. The restaurant need to realise we go for a meal, not just a slab of meat. Real shame. During Covid it looked like the restaurant had it nailed online, however when we arrived, the tables were closer than expected, we had 5 different waiters serve us, and no one was asked to use the hand sanitiser to wash their hands. Also disappointing for such and expensive restaurant.
Excellent service, particularly at this extraordinary time. Thank you, Gaucho!
Excellent and very attentive service from the staff
All good except not informed of progress whilst waiting for the table.
Amazing food and service, and great to be somewhere with some atmosphere!
First time at this branch. Good experience. Very lovely waitress. Delicious food.
Really enjoyable lunch with our 10 y/o daughter to celebrate her finishing her 11+ exam. We went for the steak taster board between 3 of us and all of the steaks were cooked perfectly and there is easily enough meet to satisfy 4 or 5 adults - particularly if you have a starter (which thankfully we didn't).
Couldn't fault any of the food. However, they did not seem to be doing the lunch set price menu, which we probably would have gone for as it looks good value compared to the a la carte, but it's probably a sign of the times that restaurants are having to try and make as much as they can whilst they are able to trade.
Still, it's a great spot for a special occasion. There is a nice buzz about the place and the staff were really friendly and helpful and made for a very enjoyable afternoon.
Amazing restaurant serving delicious food. Would definitely go back.
A little expensive, noisy room and having to raise my voice to speak and not being able to hear the waiting staff properly.
The dog brought in by patrons at the next table ,inside the restaurant barked or yelped over a 100 times during the meal.
We all love dogs but a the price you pay , the restaurant needs to review its policy.
It was my daughters 22nd birthday and she wanted to go to this restaurant.
Lovely food and atmosphere
Great A la carte menu, delicious food, higher quality stakes but very poor service
Service was really good but food was a massive let down. Unfortunately steaks were undercooked, very fatty and difficult to cut because of the tendons. Mac and cheese was mostly Mac and no cheese. Sticky toffee pudding was too dry. Such a shame as Gaucho hasn’t always been like this. Had been to the London Bridge one and loved everything including the ambience (admittedly years ago!). I don’t know if all the chains have changed or only this branch but we wouldn’t recommend it.
Food was fantastic, service was outstanding and overall a great place to visit
We loved the steak. Service was well-timed and friendly🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Very nice as usual the best bife de chorizo in London, very good wine as well and th service spotless as always
Had a Sunday lunch. Quite expensive for overcooked veg. Very nice meat.
Amazing Sunday roast
I’d read mixed reviews so wasn’t sure what to expect of the Sunday lunch but was pleased to find it was really good. The meat was tender and delicious. Potatoes could do with some love though as they reached us burnt. Also they could be more proactive on bringing more meat as our table was last to be seen.
Lovely food - negative is that with a 2 hour table time the service has not changed to accommodate that. Too long taken to give menus, pre dinner drinks then waiting for order to be taken. No time for pudding let alone coffee!
I love coming to gaucho and we had a great table by the window. However we felt totally harassed by our waitress who must have asked our guests about 5 times to do the track and trace. We told her we would do it but she kept coming back and making a point of it suggesting that she hadn’t taken our word for doing it. Which I felt was extremely rude.
Great location, ambience, food and service.
Great food and service I have been a number of times recently all have been excellent.
Good Afternoon, We would like to thank you for your review and we are delighted that your experience with us was truly the best., Kind Regards, Jorge
