Mediterranean
GATO is Chef Bobby Flay's expression of Mediterranean food, drink, and design. The NoHo location is a 100-year-old building, and GATO is the first restaurant to reside there. GATO combines its NYC roots with a European sensibility and has a casual approach, a bustling environment, and a dedicated passion to its cuisine. The name GATO was inspired by a mysterious orange cat that walked through Mr. Flay's feet on Lafayette Street while he was waiting for a real estate broker to show him the space for the first time. The cat has not been seen since, but his initial appearance has made a permanent impression.

GATO is owned by Bobby Flay and Laurence Kretchmer who previously owned the Spanish restaurant, BOLO, together for 15 years. BOLO met an unfortunate demise when its building was torn down to make way for a new development. The partners vowed to revive the spirit of BOLO. They are thrilled to launch GATO as its next renewal.

We decided to dine at Gato for our 2nd wedding anniversary. What a mistake! The meal was almost completely substandard, very disappointing.

The best points were the Burrata and Salt cod fritter off the bar menu and the octopus appetizer which were decent, if under-seasoned. The waiter insisted we try the eggplant and gave us a complimentary one. It was soggy and flavorless. This would set the tone for the evening.

The waiter highly recommended the fried chicken main. “It’s like no fried chicken you’ve ever had!” Well, sort of true. The fried chicken was an under-seasoned, bland, piece of chicken breast. A sad state of affairs for my wife who hails from Texas.

My lobster pasta was completely drowned in its sauce, the lobster barely visible. I was barely able to discern its flavor.

The side of Brussel sprouts had to be the worst item, however. Completely submerged in its sauce and GREASY! We tried to send it back, but the waiter talked us into trying another one without the sauce. It showed up EVEN GREASIER, absolutely drowning in oil with no flavor.

The dessert continued the trend with an espresso bread pudding which resembled nothing more than a soggy tiramisu. I was thankful for the biscotti on the side because at least it wasn’t soggy.

Certainly not a $300 meal. Avoid!

The quality of both the food and the service in Gato has declined drastically. The restaurant was half empty and it took them at least 25’ to bring our food after we requested it. They were also rushing us because the kitchen was “closing” at 3pm - during Sunday brunch! The food was very mediocre and really not up to the standards of such an expensive place. It’s a shame because this was one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

Sun brunch with friends. arrived separately and first arrival was seated, did not have to wait for entire party .A good sign.
Brunch menu is short but runs gamut from breakfast/brunch dishes, eggs, waffles, to lucnd, buger, pixxa, pastas, salads.
I had the poached eggs, delicious, the othesr the waffles and roast chicken salad, also tasty.
Also split a side of the decadent bacon!
Will return for dinner.

Oh how the mighty have fallen...the egg pasta with anchovy and chive pesto was literally swimming in an oil slick / sea / abyss ... the Brussels sprouts and green beans were not memorable, the lamb sausage pizza was moderately better that something from California pizza kitchen. The bright spot was the service which was mildly attentive. Would not return...save yourself...

I was there in Valentine’s Day. Our reservation was late more than 30 minutes, so we had to sit at the bar cuz it passed 10:30pm. Food is good, however the price is way higher than the quality of food. The atmosphere is good, pretty nice and beautiful place. In ny you have better options for similar prices e.

We went for Valentine’s Day dinner. Had to complete form and scan in for dinner with credit card confirmation. Very strict rules. Then we arrived promptly at 6:30pm and told (in a bit of a snippy manner) that we had to wait for our table. Sat at bar where service got much better. Wine sommelier was excellent. Food was good but not spectacular, I am giving a pass as was a busy night.....the fish (main course) was rubbery. Everything else was very good. Would go again to try regular menu.

My daughter and I visited Gato during a long weekend in NYC. We've been stalking Gato and Bobby Flay's IG for a while and admiring the dishes they were posting. Did not disappoint! started with the crispy oysters, and someone in our party may have gone ahead and licked the shells.....then we had the black fettuccine, brussels sprouts with pomegranate and pistachios, and the butterscotch bodine(?), budine (?) pudding....and the Shelby cocktail was lovely. Great service and a great meal. Was a little slow the night we were there - and we enjoyed the low noise and crowd level. Only regret was that Nacho Flay was not in the house.

Our server, Cory, was attentive and professional. He broke down the entire menu to us so we understood each item and how it was prepared. Cory told us at the beginning of the meal he has been with Gato since the day it opened so he has a complete understanding of the food, etc. our experience was amazing because of him. The food was outstanding, especially, the fresh ricotta and fresh egg pasta with anchovy butter. Every waitress/waiter we encountered was polite and helpful. You must put this on your list of places to check out while in the city!

We ordered 3 dishes to share.
The Gato burger was to die for! Delicious!!
We ordered the poached eggs and the baked eggs. Both were very tasty but the poached eggs on both dishes were slightly over cooked, which was disappointing.

Amazing! From the drinks to dessert Gato delivered beyond my expectations. Thank you for such a great evening! We especially enjoyed the scrambled eggs and octopus. I can’t wait to visit again! One of the best dining experiences of my life!

I've walked past this location so many times and never knew it was there. Was greatly surprised to enter and see the beautiful space, experience delicious food and receive wonderful attentive service from our servers. Only critique is the host - she and another guy were staring into their phones when we arrived. Her attitude was frosty and not very welcoming but once we were seated, the servers were terrific.

The service was meh- the host had an arrogance and poor attitude, and the waitress didn't know what was going on. She lost our bill that we had handed her cash for, charged us the same price for a mocktail and an actual cocktail, despite there being no alcohol in it becuase she claimed the bloody mary mix is more expensive than the actual alcohol added.....thats absurd. And, after eating here 3 times (to give it chances) I've gotten sick each time I've eaten here.

Our group of 4 shared 3 bar/appetizers and then each had an entre. And 2 desserts! Everything was delicious. The service was also excellent. The space is comfortable, if a bit noisy.

A simply outstanding meal! We tried, after consulting with our waiter, the scrambled egg and octopus appetizers, as well as the kale/mushroom paella, black fettuccini and orata for our meals. Every single bite was fantastic - beautifully appointed and the flavors were delicious. Can’t wait to return.

Great atmosphere and food. Over-prices dishes unfortunately when compared to similar places. (E.g. A.O.C. in Los Angeles)

Overall, however, very good. This was my second time while visiting from Los Angeles so clearly I enjoyed it.
