GATO is owned by Bobby Flay and Laurence Kretchmer who previously owned the Spanish restaurant, BOLO, together for 15 years. BOLO met an unfortunate demise when its building was torn down to make way for a new development. The partners vowed to revive the spirit of BOLO. They are thrilled to launch GATO as its next renewal.

What Insiders Are Saying
Gato will remind you why Bobby Flay became famous in the first place - because he can cook.
My daughters’ first time in nyc, and we went to Gato post matinee show. Our server was attentive but never annoying. We were there early before the Saturday night crowds, so he could go over the menu thoroughly while making suggestions. I had the saffron linguine, and my husband had the rabbit. We both nearly licked our plates, but that would be frowned upon. The mussels rivaled fresh mussels I had in France. My daughters had a pizza the pizza with tomato that had a smoky and savory taste that had a hint of sweetness for a home run combination. Go to this restaurant.
I love pretty much everything I've tried at this restaurant. The scrambled egg appetizer is amazing and their best selling dish paella is spectacular. The rabbit dish is consistently great as well. Tried the pork chop for the first time and it was by far the best pork chop I've ever tried, very juicy and full of flavor. It does get booked out on weekend nights and gets quite noisy but overall ambience is nice.
Took our 15 year old granddaughter to dinner while she has been training at a ballet academy in New York, we all loved the dinner at Gatos
We loved the BAR Treats so we could try a variety of appetizers!
Everything about this restaurant was wonderful! My husband and I shared several dishes and our favorites included the octopus, squid ink pasta (YUM), and scrambled egg dishes. I don't typically like scrambled eggs, but the waiter suggested it and that it isn't your typical scrambled egg.. and boy, was he right! Drinks and dessert were great too. Great service - our server Darren had great suggestions and was always on point!
Sat at the bar and got great and unrushed service. All the food was packed with flavor and excellently executed. Bravo to Bobby Flay and his very professional and welcoming team.
Incredible food. Some of the best we've had in NYC (incl. fancier restaurants where prices are higher). Really, really flavours.
First let me say that the food was so great at Gato and it is the only reason I am leaving this review. The service is completely outrageous: the staff here does not understand what customer service means. We had put in a special seating request in our opentable reservation notes and I asked the restaurant when they called to confirm the reservations. However they completely ignored the notes and request, and were absolutely rude (very rude to paying customers!) when we insisted to have our request respected because it was important for our dining experience. The rudest staff was in fact the manager and if this my restaurant I would absolutely fire this person for speaking to my customers in that manner and for ruining the reputation of my restaurant. She needs to take a lesson in hospitality. We travel and eat around the world, but never have I experienced a more rude hosting staff. Again the food is great and it is a shame that the service is not living up to the same level.
Amazing! Everything was delicious and awesome service.
First visit to Gata, last minute, pre-theater, nonethless had a fabulous dinner, presented beautifully and within our timeframe. Exquisite preparation and service, wonderful flavors, lovely presentation of the dishes. We had a great time there with a great server in charge and will definitely return soon.
As always, Gato was delicious and having Bobby take the time to take a picture with us just made the evening even more memorable. Can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I celebrated our Birthdays/ Anniversary at Gato. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and helped us pick a great bottle of wine to go with dinner. I’m a vegetarian and had a hard time making a decision because I had so many options! My husband and I loved every part of dinner. Atmosphere was great for a night out n
Portions are way too small, it’s ridiculous
Lovely dinner celebrating a friends birthday. Great food and good service.
The food, cocktails and ambiance are wonderful, and the service is friendly. The entree portions, while exceptionally tasty, are somewhat small. The prices of the entrees, which are on the high side, can only be justified by the quality of the taste of the food, not the quantity of the food on the plate.
I brought my wife to Gato to celebrate her birthday and her anticipated cancer surgery to finally remove her last bit of cancer. Rebecca Geggatt made our visit so memorable that I can't say enough her sister and family surprised my wife and they gladly accommodated a table for us all besides providing a birthday pizza extra apps and dessert. My wife adores Bobby Flay and just being there in his space made her so happy to celebrate there. Thank you Rebecca for your hospitality.
Came on recommendation and I have enjoyed many of bobby flays other restaurants. Flavors were delicious as expected but portion sizes were so small for the price. I realize that it’s a tapas place but spending as much as we did and still be hungry after is just not cool. I have eaten at plenty of tapas places and been more than satisfied. I don’t mind spending money but this was just not up to par. Also, the waitress was less than friendly but did her job fine. Overall, nothing to write home about. There are better places to visit in the city.
AMAZING!!! Phenomenal food and service!
Work in city wanted to try a Bobby Flay place without fuss. The little bites did not disappoint. Looked for recommendations on wine and the manager was excellent and knowledgeable in his selection of perfect choice according to out preferences They are small, just a bite, but the lamb was truly exquisite My husband had mussels linguine and enjoyed it while my wild mushroom pizza was fresh full of earthy goodness and topped with truffle oil and feta making a light but satisfying entree. Cheesecake w strawberries was light not cloying sweet as some can be. Great casual but charming atmosphere Def recommend.
Best octopus I've ever had. The $41 beef entree was three tenderloins that came out a little tough. Cocktails were good but not breathtaking. Service was excellent. Overall, I would recommend for night out if you can afford. Relatively light meal cost us around $150.
Made this our first stop upon arriving into town from Washington, DC (made reservations a month in advance). The two of us really enjoyed a marvelous meal and the warm ambiance of this fantastic establishment. We opted to start with a drink at the bar (which has a great energy) and then enjoyed terrific food and service from our table, highly recommended!
Very cool space. Very well appointed furnishings, lighting, etc. attentive, friendly staff. Excellent, creative food in the proper proportion. Easy to navigate around a vegetarian diet. Nice wine choices and excellent coffee!
Let me start with the positive. Staff is very attentive, quick service, not noisy. Negatives - The food is very expensive and not tasty, the appetizers are ridiculously small and overpriced. Was not worth the value. Will not return or recommend
Was not impressed with the food. Probably wouldn’t visit again or recommend
Loved everything we tried and our waiter, James, was outstanding as well.
Great flavorful food. Small plates. Our server Derek was exceptional. Front desk needs to be more professional and accommodating to guests with reservations.
All of the dishes were extremely flavorful. Highly recommend the flatbread pizzas and the charred beef.
Would not choose to return - unmemorable to poor food, slow service, noisy table.
Excellent service and quality of food.
Relaxed atmosphere & good cocktails 🍸
Gato was amazing! Everything was delicious and talked about for days afterward! The fresh ricotta w/ broccoli rabe pesto was unbelievably creamy and I would have eaten it with a spoon if it didn't also come with that amazing house baked focaccia. My mother had the tortiglioni and enjoyed it, and my black fettuccini was also delicious + the Nacho cocktail. We finished off with the espresso soaked bread pudding which was so soft and creamy it was like a custard! Our servers were also very polite and helpful. Looking forward to returning on another visit to NYC!
Plates were very small but super delicious! It is definitely a special occasion place when you want to splurge.
there's something here for everyone. lively bar scene, casual dining in bar area; more ambient in back of restaurant, where you can actually hold a conversation. excellent service and accommodating staff. was seated in bar area, but asked to be moved to quieter part of the restaurant. while waiting ordered cocktails, which arrived just as we were moved. great timing, excellent management response. food was excellent; serving staff smart, efficient and friendly. rabbit excellent. would return.
The food was excellent. We felt the portions were small compared to the price. No bread was offered ..and maybe could have overlooked the small portion for some bread.
The halibut was excellent, the Panna cotta to die for.
Our server was friendly and attentive.
Have been here before and it is consistently good.
A little noisy though as we sat near the bar.
I would highly recommend Gato.
We had a wonderful experience. The food and the beverages were outstanding. The staff were all genuinely friendly and interested in making our experience a memorable occasion. We had high expectations and they were definately met.
Unfortunately I was very dissatisfied with the service and my meal. They got my order wrong. They also got my wife’s wrong. We didn’t want to be complainers so we just ate it. I had the charred beef which had an overall good taste; just over cooked. My wife had the pork chop which was very mildly flavored. We had 2 signature drinks that were pretty good but then my wife ordered a pear martini which tasted nothing like pear. What made things worse is that the couple next to us was given complimentary port and biscotti and we were just given our check and not offered anything. We spent just about $200 and left feeling cheated, disappointed, and unsatisfied.
Fantastic meal! Everything was perfection. Mr Flay certainly knows what he’s doing!
Bobby Flay's cuisine rules. It's great to know that he still has it, even after his three other establishments (Bolo, Mesa Grill, Bar Americain) are all gone. His take on the Mediterranean-style dishes does not disappoint. I could have licked the plates clean!
One of my favorites and once again didn’t disappoint in any way!
A must go for quite frankly an reason you can think of!!
Food good. Octopus delicious. Atmosphere great. I sat at the bar and service was very average.
