GATO is owned by Bobby Flay and Laurence Kretchmer who previously owned the Spanish restaurant, BOLO, together for 15 years. BOLO met an unfortunate demise when its building was torn down to make way for a new development. The partners vowed to revive the spirit of BOLO. They are thrilled to launch GATO as its next renewal.
First time there and it lived up to the reputation. The 11 layer potatoes and porterhouse pork chop were fantastic. And leave room for desert.
As always Gato never falls short! Excellent meal and excellent service!
Nice place but ends up being costly for very small portions (watch for the 3/$21 appetizers which are a single bite each). Hype much higher than reality of what you get
Enjoyed our visit at Gato, service was great. We have mojitos which were well made, not on the menu. We had the trio: eggplant was soooooo good, lamb tenderloin, and yellowtail. The octopus appetizer was absolutely amazing!!! We shared the crispy potatoes (which were very crispy and full of flavor) and not featured, bc we just attacked it.... the porkchop. I have to say I'm not a porkchop person but it was delicious!! It is pretty big, would share it...
Visited for my birthday and were really looking forward to it. Slightly disappointed with the food as we had higher expectations. The chorizo appetizer tasted like it was spoiled so it was inedible. The fresh pasta and pork chop were good. Overall likely won’t return.
Amazing as everything is from Bobby Flay! I wish I had a second stomach to eat even more.
We LOVE Gato and come here every time we are in NYC (seriously). The food is incredible and the service is amazing too!
This was quite an experience, I booked a reservation for a late dinner around 9 pm. The restaurant bar area was alive and bustling, we were greeted so warmly, and a wonderful smile on our hostess who wished my wife a happy birthday before she took us to our table. The staff was stupendous, filled with wonderful suggestions everything from drinks to appetizers describing each dish with such delicacy. We started off with the Octopus, we shared the Paella and the Rabbit which was marvelous. We ended the night sharing a crostata filled with blueberries, while I sipped on my double espresso. It was overall a phenomenal night and we are very much looking forward to visiting Gato in the very near future.
Food was outstanding!
This was our last night in New York and we thought we would push the boat out, I am so glad we did.The food was so good my rabbit was cooked to perfection, the jus was intense and delicious. The bread pudding or as we Brits call it bread and butter pudding was light and moreish. The management gave us a complimentary glass of very good sherry and we finished with cocktails which were excellent. Our waiter I think his name was James (another Brit) was kind and attentive. All in all though it wasn’t cheap we wouldn’t have missed it for the world
We had several dishes in our party, the one we all loved was the polenta waffle and the citrus touch in it. But the unbeatable service received was outstanding.
best meal ever. beef charred perfectly and fried chicken was the best i've had. bobby flay himself was sitting at table next to ours.
Good food and service, not very noisy, great NOHO spot.
Waiter, there's a fly in my coffee.
I am a huge fan of Bobby Play restaurants and was disappointed to see my favourite NYC restaurant, Bar American, had closed. But seeing Gato had opened, I was eager to try.
I took two fellow Canadian couples here tonight and told them this would be an unforgettable experience. And that it was.
After having an incredible meal - and it lived up to my expectations - we ordered coffee and dessert. Our order arrived, as did my coffee, with an unexpected visitor floating on top. I tried for some time to flag someone down to replace my coffee. Finally a server did. No apology, no acknowledgement that this was somewhat disturbing.
The icing on the cake (or should I say the poke in the eye) was as we left, the head server came up and chuckled as he said "was the second coffee better" ?
Still no apology, just someone making me feel like I was a whiner.
What could have been one of the best dining experiences I ever had, was spoiled by six legs, two wing, and a very indifferent staff.
The food was overall good; however, for a Bobby Flay establishment, I expected more from the wait staff.
We had an outstanding waitress. Very personable and had a good sense of humor! Also, the burger was devine!!
I love the vibe of this restaurant. We are always treated so special when we come and have come to know several of the staff. Everyone is super friendly and always have great suggestions for food to order. Every dish or drink we have had is out of this world. We would come weekly if we were able to!
Amazing as usual! Always great food and great service.
Had the kale, mushroom and artichoke paella. It was fantastic. I also had the grilled octopus as an appetizer which was delicious and tender. My dining companion had the muscles which we were okay. The tarragon was a bit overwhelming. Service was exceptionally good.
Great food! The staff was great as well. We had mimosas that were amazingly made. We had four meals and every single thing was amazing. I would go back again in a heartbeat
Gato was a NYC bucket list meal and turned out EPIC.
WE went to brunch. The
polenta waffles, the almond crusted french toast, the Kale and Mushroom with chorizo , ...all I can say is DELICIOUS! Put them on your NYC Foody experience.
The food was excellent, (we chose the vegetarian and fish dishes only.) Our server was excellent. My one complaint is that the restaurant is a bit loud for conversation without shouting...
4th time here. The dishes are inventive, bursting with flavours and spices. Every dish we had stood out. Always a winner
Never disappoints. The food, the wine ,drink offerings and the service are phenomenal.
Each time I go I’m reminded of why I enjoy it.
Everything about our visit was impeccable! The service accommodating and friendly, and the food impressed on every level. Taste, artistry, and complex layers of flavor! We could not stop day dreaming of our return! A+ all around! The staff have done Bobby proud! Bravo, don’t change a thing!
I am always looking at reviews and great new restaurant to try out. This restaurant had a 4.6 rating. I seriously cannot say one nice thing about brunch on Sunday. The "special" Mimosa was flat and not at all as described. Baked eggs were inedible. The noise was loud Hip-hop - really, for Sunday brunch. Service was slow. Huge restaurant with less than 15 people which gave me pause when I walked in but stayed due to reviews. Worst restaurant experience I have had in over 20 years coming to NY 3 months out of the year.
It was my wedding anniversary. Porterhouse Pork Chop was raw and waiter was not attentive. I will not be going back.
I was at Gato once before and has a fantastic evening. When it was time t celebrate a friend’s birthday, it was the first place I thought of. The food is delicious, and the service is spectacular. It’s fine dining in an upscale yet accessible space.
My experience at Gato was incredible. Every dish was perfectly curated and balanced. For a table of 3, we decided on 3 plate 1 "choose 3", 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 1 dessert., and it was the perfect amount of food.
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant as a "must go to" in the city.
Everything was outstanding! Scramble egg appetizer and grilled octopus were the best we had ever had. the black fettucine was superb and the blueberry gelato for dessert was a perfect ending. We will definitely be back every time we are in NYC.
Service was fabulous throughout. Food was delicious and well presented. Restaurant had a good vibe and was the interior design was tasteful.
The food was delicious, as always. Excellent service by Cory.
We enjoyed our meal greatly. The vegetables were especially good, with the cauliflower being a star.
The food was exceptional!! The crust on the blue cheese beef is out of this world!! Olive oil cake and the cheesecake are a MUST for desserts.
All of the courses were cleared prematurely which made us feel quite rushed. Otherwise the experience was lovely.
Gato was amazing. Bobby Flays, per usual, did not disappoint!
Great night out with my husband. Fun, lively setting with delicious food and drinks.
From the moment we walked through the door, service was excellent & attentive. Food was delicious and beautifully prepared. This is what we hoped a Bobby Flay restaurant would be like!
amazing!! I tried the kale/ paella and Oh.My.God. It was so creamy and so rich, full with flavor. Mr. Bobby Flay would be very proud. I plan on returning back very soon to try some of their delicious desserts!!
