Gather Ratings and Reviews
Truthfully I thought that the food was terrible. I feel like the food at Gather has gotten worse over time. At this point the only good thing on the menu is the Brussels sprouts. I had the duck entrée, and it was cold and bland. The puree was tasteless. Maybe I am being to picky, as I end up eating a lot of duck during waterfowl season.
If I weren't on a first date, I would have sent my food back. At least the service was good.
The items we ordered put a spin on each food and completely hit the target. The brussel sprouts were delicious and the vinaigrette with cranberries were complimented very well with the romano cheese. The ribeye was cooked perfectly to order and matched nicely with the potatoes veggies. Well worth the money and the service was top notch.
This restaurant is trying to be a hip urban gastropub in Jackson. For the most part it succeeds - interior is rather industrial and very loud. Food was creative and good overall. Fried chicken was very good. Duck breast with puréed squash was simply outstanding. Wine list was good. Had beignets for dessert that were pretty good with three delicious dipping sauces. Service was the weakest point of the restaurant - slow and a little too casual. Suspect our waiter was a skier or boarder who is trying to earn a living waiting tables - he needed to put more effort into appearing to be a professional waiter. Also had a strange conversation with the manager that made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Bar scene seemed very active. Overall a good meal. Not a place for quiet conversation.
We had a great anniversary dinner at Gather. The service was attentive and engaging, and the food was excellent. Order more of the pork buns than you think you need! They're fantastic. Every dish we had was excellent, and a question about how to approach the menu brought the owner to our table for a nice sit-down chat about the restaurant concept. How's that for service? Highly recommended for a contemporary dining experience that still manages to be friendly and approachable.
Overall disappointed with our experience. Went for Christmas dinner (2 ppl) and although there was plenty of seating we were seateded at a table that seemed to be an 'extra'. All other seating was tucked along the sides and this tables seemed to be plopped in the middle of the aisle leaving you feeling very exposed and you felt every single person walk by. The food was okay but feel that you can get better for for the same price, possibly slightly less that is better in town. The menu didn't seem to really follow any type of theme or genre, all over the place. As I mentIoned above there are other places in town that sever better food for the value.
Food delicious and beautifully presented. My most recent two dining visits; the dining service needsed some improvement in timeliness of drink and food delivery and communication by the servers (remembering a request and more inquiry of needs. ) Tracey Hellbeun.
Another wonderful meal at Gather. The service was top notch and the food was excellent! We had the Brussels sprouts and the pork buns as appetizers....so good! I personally had the watermelon salad and it was fabulous. For my main corse I had the Wyoming Flat Iron, 3 Year Gouda Smothered Potatoes, with Mustard Demi Glace. It was excellent. My wife and friends had the Salmon and loved it. Gather is such a nice relaxing place to eat and everyone is so pleasant. I highly recommend it.
First time trying Gather. The food was excellent. Multilayered flavors in the Pork Shank dish made for a lovely dinner. Service was sufficient but not extraordinary. The tables are extremely close together maybe not the best place for deep conversations or a romantic date. Overall a nice dinner experience.
We enjoyed our dinner at Gather so much two nights earlier that we went back a second time. We again had the brussel sprouts, which again were fantastic. The real hit was the watermelon salad. Words can't describe how good it was. The servers both nights recommended it and they were right. We also had the hen, which we enjoyed though the other two dishes were the hits.
We like quiet restaurants and this really fit the bill. It had pleasant background music at a low volume, which enabled us to have a pleasant conversation.
Our server, Nate, was great, just like Louie the first time we were here.
Our only concern is that they have a half-off happy hour from 5-6 but it is only for drinks at the bar. This makes no sense to us. We were going to order drinks from the bar and take them to our table and they said we didn't have to do this. If they don't change this policy when you go, you should ask about getting drinks at the bar and taking them to your table.
We had a lovely dinner at Gather. We enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance. We had the crispy brussel sprouts as an appetizer, which my wife said were the best she ever had (and she really likes brussel sprouts). We were going to have the watermelon salad but decided to refrain to leave room for dessert. We had the pork shank, which we wouldn't have ordered unless our very helpful server, Louie, suggested it. We loved it. We did save room for dessert and had the fried bread pudding a la mode, which we really enjoyed. The restaurant was about half full and not too noisy, so we really enjoyed our time there. Indeed, we are going back tonite.
Overall, we expected much more from restaurants in Jackson based on the hype of all of the stars and well-known types who live and stay in the area. Gather was an exception. It did not knock off our socks, but we enjoyed well prepared, fresh ingredients that were reasonably priced for this locale. The steak and venison rack entrees were particularly noteworthy and worth trying. We would eat here again and recommend you try it if visiting town.
Gather is listed as a "Food + Drink Experience" and that is accurate. From beginning to end we felt welcomed, like the staff was happy to have us there, and that they were receptive to our wishes. The food was excellent, varied and well prepared and beautiful as plated. We can't recommend it enough.
A real gem with a different type of menu than most of the restaurants in Jackson. Modern interior design set the stage for a great meal. You could do small plates or more traditional main entrees. The Brussels sprout starter and pork belly buns were both great. The guys loved the venison rack entree in particular. Would definitely go back.
When I read about this place, it sounded fantastic. Not so much.
The service was not great. It was my Husband's birthday, and they barely acknowledged it. His appetizer was octopus which was great, but my Trout Caesar salad was just not quite right. It was fresh, but the flavors didn't fit. My burger was fantastic, but I am a lover of red cabbage. My husband's pork was tasty but very fatty. The server tried to rush us through our meal, constantly returning to force us to pick an entree, even though we told him we wished to take our time.
And then, he did not even offer us the dessert menu. The Server just brought us the check.
Very disappointing compared to what we expected. We would not go back.
We were charged full price for drinks even though it was happy hour. I did not notice until later that evening. The waitress was exceptionally nice but could not answer all our questions regarding the menu. We arrived a half hour early prior to our reservation. I told the hostess we wanted to sit at the bar but she insisted we sit at a table. She first attempted to sit us right next to the kitchen. Mind you no one was at a table yet. She said all the other tables were reserved days ago. I tried to tell her my reservation was made a month earlier. She was pleasant but seemed there may have been a language barrier or just in a hurry. She did seat us at a table of our liking , she didn't want my name to void the reservation.
Tries hard to be an upscale restaurant, but the food is marginal at best . Need to cut way back on the salt. Also, hate to pay so much for a meal and have to sit in a booth with other diners.
And the locally sourced ingredients is a stretch when the venison is from New Zealand.
