Gateway to India - Gig Harbor
Restaurant was closed. No Notification, nothing. Sign on the door CLOSED! for Easter Sunday. I understand Easter, but notify people.
Overall a delightful place. The food is tasty and the service is prompt.
We went in with 7 people and the service and food was good. The furniture needs some work. Benches need to be reupholstered. Overall a good meal at a reasonable price.
Service was very slow. Appetizers came out after our entree. Food was good, however the meal itself was over 2 hours long and we were late to our movie.
What a lovely experience. A very nice variety of dishes on the buffet, plus you can order off the menu if you wish, fantastic service and a charming atmosphere. Enjoy!
Restaurant nearly empty when we arrived. Waited 15 minutes while staff slowly cleared every table before seating us and the group waiting behind us. Staff approached just as we were about to leave to find another restaurant. Both my husband and I sunk into our respective booth seats which was very uncomfortable during entire dinner. Could feel springs. Our server was very slow and confused our order with another table. Seemed like he was high on something. Food okay but nothing to brag about. Someone told us that original owner opened a second location and this location has gone downhill since. I agree. Won't visit again.
Its was closed, after driving 30 minutes to eat there. That’s how it was... don’t know why you would be allowed to make reservations for a restaurant that is closed. Upon looking at their door, they’re regularly closed on sundays so it wasn’t a special circumstance either.
Food was well-prepared! Starter soup was awesome! Service a bit slow hut otherwise a good experience! Would return!
We had a large group and the staff took great care of us. Friendly and timely service. I have been here often and the food has never disappointed!
Friendly, attentive service, Excellent food with wide range of choices, and very good value with generous portions, plenty for take-home to enjoy the next day.
The service is excellent every time. The food is the best Indian food around. Lots of vegetarian foods on the menu. But also plenty of other items for everyone. The server was very friendly and extremely knowledgable.
Everything about Gateway to India was great. What's not great, is when you make a Valentines Day reservation on Open Table and the restaurant tells you when you show up that they don't use Open Table any longer, but Open Table still takes reservations?! Now my nice dinner with my wife gets a sit and wait date until they have an opening. The employees handled it great, not a long wait, but frustrated at Open Table. Do not book THIS restaurant through Open Table. I guess the lesson is, which is not the point of the app. Call after making the reservation and double check? Again, the restaurant handled it great, just remove them from Open Table.
Gateway doesn't use your service anymore and making reservations through open table doesn't work. I'm not sure why you have them listed in your database because when you show up for your reservation they say WELL WE HAVE TOLD THOSE IDIOTS WE DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE ANYMORE BUT THEY HAVE NOT REMOVED US FROM THEIR SYSTEM SO WE CONSTANTLY HAVE TO TELL CUSTOMERS TO STOP USING OPENTABLE.
We always love the food and the service at Gateway to India. Best Indian food in Tacoma/Gig Harbor!!
We love going to Gateway to India in Gig Harbor. Even though we live in Tacoma and the Gateway to India on Proctor is closer, the food is far better in Gig Harbor and a far more pleasant atmosphere!! Service is incredible too.
I have eaten at the Tacoma location several times (and liked it) and decided to meet a friend at the Gig Harbor restaurant to compare. Its a nice, clean, friendly place tucked a little out of the way on Kimball Dr. The food was exactly the same as Tacoma GTI. Very fresh, flavorful with a kind the typical N. Indian fare with a few S. Indian dishes thrown in. It's about as authentic as you can get in the U.S. prepared in a restaurant. For people that know and enjoy the rich, varied cusine of India this is more than acceptable. For those new to it, then there is plenty to select and get an unintimidating sample. The service was friendly and low key. We had a great time!!
We have been to both The Gateway to India in Tacoma and now to the one in Gig Harbor. Far more ambiance, cleaner and broader menu it seems in the one in Gig Harbor. We will certainly be back. Thank you, also, to our fabulous server Leian who took such great care of us!!
Lots of vegan options - many items on the menu are already vegan; many can be made vegan. Menu is clearly marked. Menu is also pretty friendly for those who need gluten free choices. Food is great!
They do not accept open table reservations. Otherwise this is a great place.
The food was good - my boyfriend enjoyed it a bit more than I did, and the waitstaff was not nearly as prompt as you'd expect (it's NOT a huge restaurant). Normally that's not such a big deal, but we'd already been waiting 10 minutes for a table because they said they couldn't find the OpenTable reservation we'd made. Well, if you know it's a problem, take your name off their list! Overall, a nice place, but they could improve a few things. (and the vegetable fried appetizer was a bit dry and tasteless - we should've tried the samosas).
Excellent service and delicious food. Would definitely eat here again.
We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It will definitely be on our list of places to return the next time we are in the area.
If you like Indian food, you'll love this restaurant-as well as their sister restaurant in Tacoma on 6th Ave. The food is really good. Try the chicken korma and the mango lassi. Yummy. IMHO, this is some of the best Indian food you'll find in the Tacoma area.
This restaurant provides good variety of Indian food. I'm not an expert on Indian food but India is a big country and I imagine they represent a certain part of others. Service is somewhat variable. Always friendly, but sometimes they seem understaffed and it wait times can be kind of long. They have a nice variety of hanging light fixtures.
Our first dinner at this restaurant. The waiter was knowledgeable and very helpful because the menu was confusing with one of the largest selections I have seen. Add to that, all the Indian dishes, the casual diner needs help. Service was fast and the taste was exceptional. All four in our party agreed that this was a place to re-visit. Prices were moderate.
One caution, this is Indian food and you have your choice of spiciness. Choose carefully and if you are not familiar with Indian food, start with the "mild" dishes.
My Dad and I came for dinner before seeing The Hunger Games movie.
I am 16 and my dad is 47. He has had Indian food before, but I have not, so he let me
choose the restaurant. I eat all types of ethnic food and I am a good eater...I had a great time at Gateway To India...The food was awesome and I was able to talk with my Dad and catch up without it being too noisy. I asked Mom to make our reservation and it worked out great on Open Table! We will be back! Emily Meyer, age 16,Gig Harbor, WA
