Gaslight Ratings and Reviews
We had dinner in Gaslight with a friend (party of 3). When we learned that the restaurant participated in Dine-out Boston, we each had the three-course menu, and the food was great. Also, the ambiance was nice and the place feels comfortable. The only point of critique was that our waiter was rushing us out a bit. Please wait until everyone has finished their dessert before bringing the check. A quality restaurant like Gaslight should not rush their clients out if they finish their dinner in a reasonable amount of time.
We really enjoy Gaslight and love to go there for special occasions. On Friday 08/18/2017 we were there to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We noticed that the seating is getting a little tight. I like people, but don’t appreciate elbowing the patron beside me. The noise level is way too loud; I don’t know how you fix that, but we were literally shouting at each other in order to be heard. The last time I had a vodka martini there it was so good that I would often dream of it; this time not so good, but I still had two. But here is the real issue! My wife ordered the Pan Roasted Bavette off of the Prix Fixe menu. It was beautifully seasoned and well presented, but was as tough as shoe leather. I would have sent it back to the kitchen, but she isn’t that way. This particular cut of beef can be absolutely delicious if it is high quality. I suspect that my wife’s piece was not and this is something they should look into. On the positive side their staff is extraordinary.
This was my second or third time at Gaslight, and I was not disappointed! The patio was open, so we were able to sit outside in an area surrounded by ivy and flowers. We ordered oysters, pate, mussels, and the goat cheese ravioli. Everything was AMAZING. Our server Derek was also extremely professional and courteous. He was attentive and friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. I would honestly come back again just for him! All in all, you can't go wrong eating here and I highly recommend this place to everyone.
Food was very good. We enjoy the atmosphere here and love that there's parking. Service was great , almost too great. Felt like courses came out way too fast. Part of the experience is enjoying the atmosphere and when you've eaten 3 courses in 20 minutes the experience is rushed.
Alex was a great server, very attentive and friendly. He had my friend sample a few wines and made suggestions so she could find one she likes. I had the corn veloute, pork schnitzel, and chocolate cake with gran marnier cream. I had never had a soup like this, and I enjoyed it. The schnitzel was good, but it was nothing special. The gran marnier was too strong; it overpowered the cake entirely. The atmosphere was nice, but I likely wouldn't come back for the food.
This Restaurant has been around a long time. I used to enjoy a casual dinner here regularly. The last three dinners here, Service including host and reservations was sub par and food is hit or miss. Kitchen does not bother to honor requests ( as in please cook this rare.) This was my last visit.
Gaslight is a long time favorite and always, always a pleasure.
The menu is consistently pleasing and well prepared. The plats du jour are outstanding.
The staff is professional, though on busy nights they can seem a bit overwhelmed; management might consider a couple more staff members at each level.
It continues to be too loud for intimate conversation; some quieter nooks would be lovely.
We chose Gaslight on the recommendation of my niece and her husband, who rate it as one of their favorite restaurants in thr city. We dined on a stormy summer weeknight, so the restaurant was less crowded than usual. Service was impeccable, food was excellent. Steak frites, which I rarely order, was worth a trip there all by itself! Another great perk of the restaurant is a large parking lot next doir, with parking validated by the restaurant. Great experience!
The food was creative enough without being overly esoteric. Presentation was lovely, and the taste was great. The service was friendly and outstanding. While the restaurant had a lot of people and the noise level was moderate (definitely not an intimate, quiet dining experience), it was easy to have a conversation and hear each other. The prices were very good for Boston and the South End.
I had the rotisserie chicken which was a little disappointing - too dry. My partner had the trout and liked it a lot, but the vegetables were cold. The ratatouille side dish was excellent. The apple tart a la mode was exquisite.
Usually the chicken is excellent.
The service was marginal.
I expect much better from GasLight, especially when the restaurant is not full
This place was amazing. Charcuterie, cheese, mussels, tuna tartar, fish, wine, desserts. Everything was delicious. Server was so kind and seemed happy to be there with us. Ambiance was airy, cozy, and comfortable. We had a table for 8 with our clients and were there for hours. Just a fun time with excellent food. I will have to eat carrots for a week but it was worth it.
Overall, i would return but not with as much enthusiasm as i could have hoped. A weird disappointment that i'm not used to, is being wildly distracted by all the outstanding entrees that were only offered on specific days and the menu staples paled in comparison, leaving you feeling like you need to reschedule your dinner date immediately. I started my meal with the Bone Marrow, a serious favorite and a common pursuit for me; while good it tended to get overshadowed by the other non marrow meat piled into the bone. The toast was perfectly toasted but seriously greasy and i felt like i was drinking it. The escargot was also enjoyed by my fellow dinner mates, quite good but seriously recommend sticking to the stapled butter, the bruschetta style made it taste more like an oysters Rockefeller than the famed buttery goodness of escargot. I ordered the goat cheese raviolis, which was mostly pine nuts and there wasn't any other flavor profile - it was one of those things that tasted good at first bite but you got terribly bored with after about 2-3 bites. The real hero of the meal was the chocolate lava cake, it was a beautiful end to a meal, that while good, i fear my expectations got the better of me and all the little things became too distracting and it wasn't that great. I'm realizing now how negative this review sounds, but in reality i mean it as small notes to the chefs that could vastly improve snobs like me. haha - backing up a sec it was a good meal and i would return to try the other dishes i was unable to enjoy.
Very friendly hostess, very good waitresses, great cocktail , the bloody mary was fantastic as well as the coffee coctail. We had arrived before 11am and was very pleased to find a prefix menu that was perfect and very affordable. The food was delicious and we all had a very nice bruch.
Really enjoyed the whole dinning experience. Sat in the outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant with wonderful exposed brick walls and lots of greenery under the stars. Was greeted by our warm and welcoming waiter who did and excellent job of sharing the specials ad his personal favorites in and fun light hearted way. All is recommendations were outstanding including the ratatouille crape and polenta appetizers and the roaster duck, quail and scrod with shrimp main courses. Finished the meal with a wonderful bourdon cake (were you could add your own bourbon for flavor. Great wine selection to complement all the wonderful dishes. Definitely will return again for the great food and outstanding/warm service.
I have been to Gaslight many times and I am prepared to return, but I had the worst service that I have ever had at this restaurant on Saturday night. My server, while pleasant, was obviously in the weeds and would disappear for very long periods of time. It took quite some time to even order a drink, and when it came time to close out, I had to bring my check (which took forever to arrive) to another server to close out for me. As I said, I enjoy this restaurant and will return but the service on this night was poor, at best. I also requested that my steak be cooked medium and it was cooked well done, server never came to ask if my meat was cooked correctly or how the meal was. Poor showing on Saturday night.
3.5 hours total for my daughters birthday dinner - were served cold food, wine spilled on me by the staff, pretentious and rude "manager" out of nowhere questioning my daughter-in-law and my daughter regarding their drinks, waitress promising to take care of my daughter and delivering nothing - all together very long non-enjoyable experience and a spoiled birthday dinner.
Our waiter, Alex, was amazing! He was right there every time we needed something. Top notch service. The food was good and the beef brisket was amazing. The lava cake was a bit dry around the edges. I wonder if it was microwaved to heat it up. Overall, we had a very good experience and would visit again.
I love Gaslight. The night we went it wasn't to busy, low-key enough for us that we was able to feel that we were alone at the restaurant. The lighting and decor helps to bring that feeling to life. The food as always is on point! Drinks were sufficient and complimenting to our meal!
This was my 2nd time at Gaslight. This time was much better than the 1st time. We shared an order of Oysters and the Tuna Tartare. For dinner I had the Pork Chop and my companion enjoyed the Scallops special. We split the Lemon Souffle (which seemed to me to be more of a Lemon pudding but still so good). I like the free ample parking the modern / French American menu and the fun atmosphere. Only thing I wish was that with regards to the lobster that they actually pointed out which ones were which (we ordered 2 diff kinds).
The best thing about Gaslight are the ambiance and the food choices, but so far for me the outstanding gems are the servers. Knowing French cuisine I'd probably say the food is a bit "Americanized" but that doesn't mean it's bad at all, if anything it just gives it a special, local touch.
