Gaslight Ratings and Reviews
I have been to the restaurant for multiple times, but the experience has been declining every time. Today, it was worst out of all.
1. I was very excited to order Smoked Salmon Tartine as it indicated there were salmon roe in the dish. When the plate arrived, it did not have it and the waiter insist telling me there is and was my my plate which it didn't. He later cleared with his team and said I got the old menu and the menu wasn't updated. The waiter treated like it was my fault that I got the old menu list and I did not like that he insist there were on my plate like I don't know what I am talking about.
2. My friend also ordered the Omelette Lyonnaise which we had previously. The omelette arrived as it was mostly just egg with almost no potatoes and caramelized onions in there this time.
3. At last, the check came and it was incorrect.
Not very happy with the experience overall.
Good food, lively dining scene, good service. Not very apt guest service. I called few hours before our reserved dinner time and asked if a third guest can be accommodated. They told me its impossible, but when we came to restaurant, we were seated at a corner table for two that could have accommodate a third person easily. No big deal, but it makes difference between 5 and 4 star service
My absolute favorite brunch spot! Every time I go to Boston I make it a point to get brunch here. Food is great and reasonably priced. Their seafood tower is among the best I’ve had! I recently went on a trip to Europe and this restaurant reminds me so much of the brasseries I ate at there! I’ve had good service all but one time, and management was very apologetic when that happened. However, the last few times I’ve been there, it’s been SOOO loud, so I felt compelled to write this review. And it’s not the guests; it’s the music they play throughout the restaurant, which in turn makes guests speak louder. It’s loud enough that when I was there this past Sunday, I heard two separate tables of young people (not old, hard of hearing people) asking the servers to turn it down, and I almost asked them myself, too. They did turn it down a bit but it was honestly barely noticeable that they changed the volume. I will still go back time and time again but please! Turn the music down a bit!
brunch there yesterday; thankfully with reservations; very busy, very lively.... service by our waiter, paul - was outstanding... food was very good...not great..omelets..with frites (French fries) smallish and you needed a bit more food to actually feel full...portions somewhat small... but price was small too.. $9.25 for omelet with fries... could have ordered pastry but did not.
Great brunch menu and lunch menu so you can choose. I'd return to try dinner...great vibe..very busy at 10:30 on a sunday and by the time we left ...2 hrs later... lines were almost out the door..go early to avoid.
The food and drinks were great! We all shared escargot and oysters, which were phenomenal! We were accidentally given 5 instead of six snails, so our waiter very kindly comped that for us on our bill. I had the Steak Frites, and others had mostly seafood dishes. Not one person was dissatisfied! I also can’t say enough great things about my Manhattan! The ambiance was beautiful and wait staff was great. I’d love to go back!
The ambience on a Sunday afternoon was great as was the service and the food. My only complaint was the noise level which was a combination of a very loud large group next to us and the “music” coming through the speakers. Our request to have the music turned down fell on deaf ears!
Best French toast I’ve had but the service was terrible. It took over 30 minutes to get water, we got our cocktail after we had finished our meal and the waiter just spilled water and coffee all over our table every time he refilled our drinks. Too bad the service is so bad because the food is delish!
Our brunch was excellent, our waiter fantastic but it is extremely loud in the main dining room. We sat at the bar which help with the noise. Best to go in a group or with someone you don't want to talk to and just eat. It is very hard to carry on a conversation.
Pros: The food was delicious (especially the bread), the host was very welcoming and courteous, the ambiance was fun and lively, the location and building was great as well.
Cons: It is pretty loud and dark in there. I’m 30, with fairly good eyesight, and I even had to use my phone to see the menu. The waitress was not very nice at all and made us feel rushed all night to the point that our entrees came out even before we were done the appetizers.
Enjoyed a delicious dinner while exploring Boston's South End. A warm night in October and plenty of restaurants to choose from. The Gaslight has an elegant old fashioned feel to it. The service was attentive and informative - I am Celiac and have to eat gluten free - no worries here - waitstaff are informed - which is always a relief. The sauteed trout with mushroom confiture was crisp on the outside & light and fluffy inside - trout always seems to be bony to me - but not so at the Gaslight! My dining partner had the lemon sole and was happy with his meal as well. I went for the Chocolate mousse for dessert and somehow made room for the generous portion size - my partner ordered the gateau aux pomme and was not disappointed. Desserts are generous enough to be shared.
The food and good and the place is lovely the only bad part is the seating is incredibly cramped and uncomfortable. We were seated at in a wood booth that was so cramped I could only use one arm to eat. The seats were like a park bench, the kind they make really uncomfortable so the homeless won't sleep there.
The hostess gave my friend and me a great booth. The manager asked my opinion on one of their new cocktails. Overall everything was great and my friend & I had a great time. The one anomaly was my food order. I requested the Monday special of pork schnitzel and they brought the pork chop. They took care of the correction. That was nice. Unfortunately the waitress made the point of letting me know it was my mistake when my friend and I knew that I ordered the Monday special. Otherwise she was pleasant throughout.
I enjoy going to Gaslight all the time.
