We were really disappointed in Gaslight. When you walk in the ambiance is very appealing, they've done a good job of capturing the French bistro atmosphere. Unfortunately it's marred by a terrible music system, all you here is an obnoxious low bass. We thought it was bleed through from a live band somewhere, a very bad live band, but as far as I can tell that wasn't the case. Apparently they chose to pipe the noise in.
The food was mostly terrible. The onion soup was good but the foie gras was inedible, it was bitter. We had the mussels and the duck for our main courses. The mussels had fennel in them, lots of it, the right amount of fennel is none, afterwards I felt queasy. The duck was stringy, not good at all.
We invited some out-of-town friends since Gaslight is one of our favorites. We were not disappointed. The menu recommendations and beverages were excellent and the service was very attentive. Our friends have become big fans and will definitely come back again as we have done many times. This was a busy evening and the room was understandably noisy. However we sat in a booth which made it easier to have a good conversation.
What a wonderful evening celebrating my son’s birthday. The food was outstanding and presentation beautiful. Our waiter Michael was so helpful with choosing a wine and very attentive in excellent service.
Enjoyed a double date I had here with some friends and my baby.
A perfect place to meet friends for brunch. We had two children with us and it was very comfortable.
Gaslight is often a solid dinner choice that is predictably good. Recent visit however, shows that the bar service has deteriorated. Old fashion was clearly not stirred appropriately as all the simple syrup was at bottom. Also two other drinks were watered down. It was a Saturday night- so I would expect their best bartenders to be available. Not sure what has happened but the bar service is not up to par.
Everything was excellent except for the table. Had a reservation but seated at a small table right near the bar.
The food and service at Gaslight are outstanding. Even on a very busy Friday night, we were well taken care of. Not a good place for a quiet conversation, but the vibe is friendly and boisterous. The free parking is an awesome option for out-of-towners, and is very close to the theater district/South Station/Logan.
It was very dark. The service was very very slow. The food was average, my lemon sole felt like mashed potatoes and duck was very dry. Nothing special.
The server was great but the kitchen was SO SLOW with 30 minutes between every single 'wave' - drinks to Apps, Apps to meal...maybe longer. Server apologized dinner was taking so long and he said he'd comp our dessert. By the time we FINALLY got to that we ordered them and it took SO LONG we asked for them to go and got the check. Not the servers fault but I've never seen anything like it - TERRIBLE and obviously there was some sort of mess in the kitchen. I've been waiting to go here for years and it was NOT what I was expecting. At least the food was great...but nothing was worth the terrible food wait experience. From looking around we weren't the only ones...super frustrating. Beautiful spot but it will be a long time for me to return if ever...
Had a great Sunday brunch celebrating birthdays with family and friends. Wait staff was attentive and friendly--but did not rush us. Although brunch menu was a bit limited, the selection was interesting and met all our diverse dining desires and needs. Really felt like an afternoon spent in a French bistro in Paris. A very nice dining experience!
Went to Gaslight for Sunday brunch, the waiter was extremely friendly and the food were delicious! The three of us ordered their pre fixe brunch: two omelettes and one scrambled egg. The portion was a bit small, but it surely was a pleasant bite.
Always love coming to Gaslight, great brunch menu and very accommodating to different allergies and sensitivities on the menu. Drinks are great, service is great, and the atmosphere is great!
Perfect dinner experience. Our waiter Micheal was great and very attentive. The food was spot on.
Gaslight is one of my favorite restaurants. I have gone twice now on visits to Boston from NYC and I will always have a meal there on future trips! Amazing food and service and so much fun!
I love a good bistro and Gaslight is just that! All your French favorites are there and all done with exceptional care! Thanks for a great meal, I’ll be back!
We had never been to Gaslight. We were looking for a fun place to meet another couple in the city. As soon as we saw that it was a French Bistro, we were pretty sure we would love it. It is hard to find good French restaurants, and Gaslight did not disappoint. The atmosphere, décor, and food were all very pleasantly Parisian. Not only would we go here again, we are already talking about how soon. Also, Joyce, the restaurant manager is the absolute best!
Celebrated my birthday there. They were helpful and went out of the way to take a group photo for us.
Table wasn’t ready.
Nice brunch menu selection.
Food was delicious
Staff was amazing
Fantastic service from Alex and a perfect way to kickoff our weekend in Boston. Love this spot for an intimate dinner with friends. The food never disappoints!
The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was really nice as well. One of the entrees came out undercooked but it was immediately comped by the manager and more wine was brought for us while we waited. I definitely plan on returning.
Really enjoyed our dinner at Gaslight. The staff were lovely. The decor is cute with good atmosphere. My steak was a bit fatty but the bread, sides and dessert was delicious. We'll be back!
Gaslight had been on my "want to go there" list for so long I was wondering if it was even still open when I finally made a reservation. We arrived early for our Easter brunch reservation; we couldn't be seated early (didn't expect to be, but figured we'd ask), and to our delight, there were two open seats at the bar. We actually prefer the bar at most places, but I had reserved a table to try to minimize standing around. We each ordered a Bloody Mary and planned to move to our table eventually. The drink could get its own review. Their mix is salty and savory and satisfying. I asked for mine to be spiced up, and instead of just throwing in some Tabasco, the bartender added some sort of spicy, smoky bitters. Fantastic. I had also asked for extra horseradish; the bartender needed to wait on that from the kitchen, but the drink was so good without it that I told him not to bother.
A few sips into our drink, we realized we were too happy to want to move to a table. The bartender was attentive and friendly, the drink was great, and the bar felt like an oasis. We stayed put; I hope a lucky walk-in got our table.
I ordered the pork-based "hache" (hash) that came topped with two fried eggs. The hash had a few perfectly cooked homefries-sized chunks of potato. Had I wanted to avoid the carbs, the potatoes were big enough to see and eat around. The hash also had tasty seasoning and a moist consistency that helped it hang together. Hash is often dried out; not this one. The eggs atop were perfection. I could eat this daily.
My partner opted for the crêpes, which he loved. We each added on a pastry because ... French place. My pain au chocolat rivaled those I have had in Paris, and his croissant was the same. Flaky but not annoyingly so. They needed to be warmed, which the bartender took care of quickly. Coffee was great just black; I'd usually sweeten it, but I didn't even have to.
There are times when a restaurant trip just goes right, and this was one of them.
I was there for a dinner gathering to meet my GF parents. The restaurant was very nice and wait staff super knowledgeable and helpful with food/beverage paring. It was a little noisy but nothing that we couldn’t have a conversation. The food was exquisite and not overpriced. I would definitely dine there again.
Food was delicious. Service was a bit overwhelmed the night we visited, but we weren't in a hurry so it was ok. Will absolutely be back!
Wonderful food, fun atmosphere. We had a great meal with great drinks
I love the menu at gaslight, for dinner and for brunch, I’ve never been disappointed. Waitstaff is so friendly and efficient, and cocktails are always made perfectly. I also like that there is parking available, which is great when you’re meeting with friends that are driving in, certainly makes it easier for everyone. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, it can get loud but it’s not unbearable, I love the moules the best.
Felt like we were in Paris ! Lovely ambiance and beef bourgange was the most tender we ever ate ! Service great !
We dine here often, but today was just me and my three-year-old. The restaurant before 11 am is chock full of families with young kids. Don't let the fact that they don't offer a kids menu discourage you from coming here and enjoying a great meal. They are totally willing to accommodate you with half orders if necessary for the kiddos. They have great food, and an attentive waitstaff and management. Wonderful strong coffee, and a great bloody Mary. The poached eggs vigneronne are amazing!! The red wine sauce is so addicting it's hard to not lick the plate. Hopefully someone else of the tables orders the french fries, they taste delicious dipped in the sauce.
The menu at the Gaslight Grill is varied and has something for everyone on their brunch menu. The servers are outstanding, the food is delicious and the portions are a good size.
Music was perhaps a bit loud, wait was no longer than 10 minutes in a crowded restaurant.
Went to celebrate receiving my first job offer and it was a wonderful night (as always). The food was amazing. The escargot were delicious, but the salmon rillettes were good but nothing outstanding. Steak frites was amazing, however. The fries are fresh and crispy and the steak was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. The wine was delicious, as were the cocktails, and our waiter was friendly and funny and just attentive enough without being overbearing.
Noisy restaurant with a staff that come across as really not caring about the clientele. We arrived early for a cocktail and had a smallish, poorly made martini for $15 - which I don't mind spending for a good drink but this didn't qualify. Food was okay but not up to my standards for French cuisine. Too many fine restaurants in Boston to give this another chance. Not terrible but disappointing.
Had a wonderful dinner. Food was tasty, well prepared and service was very good. Only criticism is that courses were served very quickly. Would have liked a little more time in between courses. Will remember to tell wait person that next time. A little too noisy—table nearby with several people were very loud and a little obnoxious.
It was great! I appreciated the birthday letter too.
Pretty good ambiance, shortbread was a bit dry and hard.
Very accommodating with good wine and great service. Outstanding duck confit.
