Gaslight Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was full so understandable service is slower but waiting 40 minutes for an appetizer to come out and then another 30 minutes for your entree is unacceptable. The waiter didn’t once check-in to give us updates or offer bread while we waited 40 minutes for our appetizer to come. I also thought it was strange we were given empty bowls for our shells when ordering seafood dishes.
Came here the other night with my boyfriend for dinner... I had heard good things from a friend, as well as a mixed review about the food from a relative. We decided to give it a shot, and honestly, I was really disappointed! Pros-- very cool venue, big inside, cool ambience, French vibe (obviously). I imagine it's a MUCH better spot for brunch. Cons-- the lighting is so dark that I felt like I needed a flashlight to see my bfs face. The service was really slow, we practically had to flag the waiter down to order more water (it was clear she was working a few too many tables). The lobster bisque was bland (would not recommend), the french onion soup was pretty good, moules frites were good. My biggest disappointment was the steak frites, can you say SALTY, and CRUSTY?! Whatever garlic/herb rub they use on it is wayyy too powerful and salty, and the outside of the steak was legitimately crusted/overcooked. I would give this place a second chance for brunch, but I do not recommend for dinner. I would go to their sister restaurant Aquitaine in a heartbeat before Gaslight again. A swing and a miss!
The Gaslight has a great menu for brunch because it has a wide range of breakfast and brunch items. There’s something for every pallet. From the moment you’re greeted by one of the gracious hostesses or hosts until you leave, the staff is friendly, very attentive and efficient. Most importantly, the food is delicious!
Once again, I had a great experience at Gaslight. We each had two drinks at the bar, and both were prepared exactly as we wanted them. I was impressed that the bartenders were both attentive even though we had to wait for seats.
At the the table, we had a server who was attentive but not obtrusive. She also impressed me with her fluency of the menu, as when she knew the label of the bottle of wine that we wanted.
And, of course, the steak frites was an item that was flawlessly prepared.
This is the perfect place for date night. My boyfriend and I went as an early Valentine's Day date and it was lovely. The food was so delicious and the service was really great. The ambiance of the restaurant was also really interesting and it definitely felt like a French place. The only negative thing I would have to say is that some of the tables are too close together and the hostess literally had to take out the table to let me into my seat. Other than that part, I would totally recommend going to Gaslight!
Wonderful night. We had to adjust our reservation several times and the host was patient and understanding. After a drink at the warm & inviting bar, we went to dine in a warm & inviting area with great music and great food.
Only suggestion would be to brighten the lights.
Regular Sunday brunchers and diners out. Been to Gaslight many times, both dinner and brunch. Food is consistent, very good, albeit not "out of this world gourmet" but an excellent value. Friendly, well trained professional staff always provide attentive, great service. Free Sunday validated brunch parking is awesome; can't be beat in inclement weather. The addition of a canvas air lock eliminated the breeze that used to permeate the dining room, which is tasteful and authentic, reminiscent of a classic Parisian bistro.
Great spot for meeting friends.
Overall good with outstanding food and wait staff. 2 issues: 1. Even with reservation there was no table. They did put two small tables (round and square) together to get us seated but wasn’t as good as a table for four. 2. It was crowded and food took over an hour after order. It was worth the wait and we had a good time but still a long wait.
Disappointing. I had booked this restaurant on the reviews. The restaurant was very noisy but the main issue we had was the quality of the food. We ordered the steak frites and the cut of meat they offered for this was ‘hangar’ steak with no other option. You would assume in a French restaurant that fillet steak or similar would be used. It was tough and stringy. Perhaps we are just spoilt in Australia with the quality of our food.
Lovely dinner. Nice lighting. Excellent presentation of food. White bean dip was delicious but needs more bread to split for a group of 4. THe trout was excellent and so was the macaroni and cheese. Consider specifying what type of gravy is on the poutine to clarify for vegetarian/diet restricted patrons. Celebrated a friend’s engagement and they were highly accommodating with great service. I love this place!
Boyfriend and I went for our 1 year anniversary. Made a 9 pm reservation and was seated immediately. Our waitress was great! But there must have been some problems in the kitchen because we did not eat dinner until 10:30 pm. She comped our appetizer, but my boyfriend and I agreed that all the food was sub-par. It was way too loud and our table kept getting bumped all night. Probably won’t return.
Love the restaurant, but found the steak au poivre unimpressive—something was off with the cut of meat and was too chewy and just seemed sloppy. Maybe it was just a bad night, I have only been there a few times. Moules frites, however, were perfect. Ambiance and service is great, so will happily return.
Long wait, reservation was for 7:30. We where seated almost 8pm.
Dinner for four adults, shared appetizer. No offer for coffee or desert, no offer for additional bar drinks.
Waiter dropped check off on table at 8:54pm. Rushed a bit. Must have needed the table.
Felt like a fast food visit!
I've been here a number of times in the past, this was celebrating a special occasion for this visit. I ordered the steak au poivre and my date ordered the seafood bouillabaisse with a side of mushrooms. The sauce for the steak was bland, not what you would expect with "au poivre" and the bouillabaisse was almost flavorless as well. Really disappointing experience considering prices and past dinners.
Can’t wait to go back! Pork chop was perfect as was the trout. Best steak tartare I’ve ever had. Ordered the roasted mushroom side with it. The earthy savory with the acid and sweetness of the tartare was a fantastic combo. Service was excellent and the vibe was relaxed.
La brunch ne manque jamais! Les crèpes sont délicieuses, en particulier la crêpe française. L'ambiance est très festive, les boissons sont élégants and créatives, et le personnel est presque toujours amical et chaleureux. Allez-y et voyez!
Gaslight was a really fun place with an unusual twist for Boston, very convenient parking validated by the restaurant. The food was delicious and well thought out. We got omelettes and steak and eggs. All were great. The bread basket we ordered with croissant and blueberry loaf especially were delicious. The shortbread that came with the Prix Fixe brunch was just OK. The vanilla French toast, was frankly, a little uninspired compared to the egg dishes. We expected a stronger Vanilla taste or a vanilla laced syrup or cream etc. It was OK French toast and nothing more. Coffee was very very good for coffee afficionados. Kind of a hipster scene in a transitioning area...fun, Parisian, vibe indoors however. Would definitely go back!
Waiter was extremly unprofessional (I’m pregnant and not drinking and said I don’t like to have fun because I ordered a ginger ale). Took an hour to receive our appitzers and didn’t even have bread available during that hour to offer us. Tried to compensate the fact it took so long by offering us a small little container of French fries for a table of 6. Took another 30 min for our meals to arrive after we finished our apps.
This was my third time at gaslight and every time it has been okay, however this time sub par and most likely won’t be going back.
