Dining room was nearly empty on Saturday evening due to COVID-19. Exceptionally quiet but I would imagine with the tile floors that it can be fairly noisy when seated to capacity. Request for a pale Cosmo fell short the first time with too much cranberry juice and overshot on the second try with a drop of cranberry juice in the bottom of the glass. ("new bartender"). Other than that, the food was delicious and portions reasonable. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. We will definitely visit again soon.
Have dined at Gaslight a number of times - the food and service have always been great
Really enjoyed this spot. We went earlier in the week for brunch. It’s not easy finding a good french bistro at a reasonable value and this was a great find. We’ll be back.
Dine out- good food, good value. Will do it again!
I hadn’t been to Gaslight in a while so I thought I’d try it out again and was quickly reminded about my bad experiences there in the past. Seated 40 minutes late for a reservation with no apologies whatsoever. I heard “they’re just cleaning the table now, 2-3 minutes” probably 4 times. Finally got seated at the worst table in the restaurant in the back corner. Literally freezing. Then to top it off some of our food was cold! You have got to be kidding me...
Was bustling and somewhat noisy . Food arrived very quickly and was very good. Our waiter was new and not too good at checking back with us but will surely improve.
We love Gaslight and dine there every couple of months. It is a fairly noisy dining room, but it seemed that the volume of the music in the back half of of the dining room was lowered. This was much appreciated.
We wished the music wouldn’t have been so loud. The ambiance is so nice that it is a shame that it’s hard to hear your own conversation.
Great. Too bad about lack of reasonably priced sparking wines. For years they had 2 bottles around $40. No longer an option.
We are always happy that we chose to go to Gaslight. Especially good value on Restaurant Week (Eat Out Boston!)
Price was too high for the size of the portions. Food was decent, not outstanding.
Excellent service. We didn’t love our table location but it was a busy Sat night and our server was wonderful from the second he first visited our table. We ordered scallops and a steak and a side of brussel sprouts. EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. The wine choices were fabulous also. Didn’t matter where we sat because our entire experience was wonderful!
Food was soso. I ordered the Croque Madame which is a staple. The bread was nothing special and the ham was overfried. Béchamel was meh.
Service was slow and many mistakes were made with our simple order.
Food was delicious and service was outstanding. I loved the ambiance. Sophisticated but not pretentious. The drink we had—their version of an old fashioned- was so smooth and was a heavy pour. Got a nice buzz from this delicious drink. Would definitely dine here again. Also they validate for 3.5 and have a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. Definitely a bonus.
I have previously dined at this Gaslight location and had enjoyable experiences. It’s been a few years since I have visited, but the location with a parking lot makes this a great choice to meet friends. Happy to say I had another fabulous experience! Food perfectly cooked, wait service was excellent, and never asked for more water because it was continually refilled!
I will admit that I tried the Lynnfield location and had one of the absolute worst experiences. The manager wanted us to give them another chance, but the experience was so dreadful that I will never go back. It’s great that the South End location doesn’t disappoint! Highly recommend!!
Great atmosphere and the food is excellent plus they can make almost of their dishes gluten free!
Poor service, good food
Enjoyed Sunday Brunch with friends, food and service were excellent. Will definitely be back again
Temperature in the restaurant was about 80 degrees. Waiter told is it’s always like that. Problem regulating it. Made for an uncomfortable experience. Otherwise a great vibe.
Good eve except we had a 7 pm Rez and got there at 6:50 and weren’t seated until about 7:15. Lots of people standing and waiting- host was young and not very helpful
A great late lunch today! I would definitely come back here when in Boston
Excellent as always. Gaslight is my go-to brunch location in Boston. Service is always on point and the food is delish. Great South End location too!
Fabulous! Always! Great place to relax with friends.
Josie was our waiter and he was fabulous. He was attentive, polite and came back at the appropriate time to check on us. The food was scrumptious and what I LOVED the best that they served the food on hot plates and the food was hot. Gaslight is one of my favorite eating places to go and I travel from Westford to go there. Thank you Josie for making our experience so delightful.
I was meeting an old friend who lives in Wellesley before picking up husband at Logan airport. Location was perfect and we had a nice meal together. GPS (Google Maps) however took me right past your free parking lot and ended me at your (locked) back entrance. Not being familiar with Boston, I was hesitant to try and drive around to find the lot, so I parked on the street, which a pedestrian confirmed was a safe parking spot and walked around to the other side of the building where I could enter the front of restaurant. So, my arrival was not pleasant.
Great meal amazing service. Overall great experience
The food was good but the service was extremely slow and the tables were crammed in so tightly it was so loud that I was happy I was only with one other friend.
Service was a little slow this visit but otherwise Gaslight was as good as always.
Allays a good time every time we go for dinner!!! Recommend it 100%
Waiter forgot to bring us appetizer, did not bring correct utensils (did not bring steak knife for steak), did not bring correct plates (bowls for moules frites were missing). On top this, it took the waiter about 20 minutes to bring us out wine. Finally, the bill was incorrect — we had been charged for two bottles of wine instead of one.
Waited for a long tine to be seated, 15 minutes later than reservation with no where to sit or stand. People at host stand were not professional. Overall service was not good.
The space is very nice and we were seated right away. The wine list by the glass was adequate but a bit overpriced for the quality of wine. The menu was interesting and they had an early prix fixe which was reasonable. One of us ordered the prix fixe with the chicken and said the chicken was tasteless. The steak tartare had a layer of chopped mushrooms on top which was bland and added nothing. There were no accompaniments to the tartare like capers or cornichons and the meat was quite bland. They put a fried egg on top which was overcooked. The beet salad was tasty but had almost no nuts or goat cheese. The bar steak was cook d properly and was very good. We felt rushed throughout, with our main courses coming while we were still eating our appetizers and the check came before we had finished.
We would not return or encourage others to book.
Service was outstanding and food was excellent host was a little snappy couldn’t find reservation name but didn’t look and seemed it was a bother seating us will definitely return again also I observed it was very kid friendly which is great to see
Food is ok, a bit over priced in my opinion, but I guess people go there for the atmosphere.
Wanted us to wait 30 min after our reservation for a table. Food not worth the price
We had a reservation that we had to put our card down for, but didn’t get sat until 30 minutes after the reservation. I don’t mind waiting but don’t make us put a credit card down next time.
Excellent experience at the Gaslight. Great service and the food was outstanding. Like Aquitaine used to be before it turned into...whatever it is today. Escargot were very good - not quite Marliave good but well done. Arugula salad was fantastic. We had the Scallops and Swordfish for mains - both outstanding and done perfectly. Mushroom side was perfect. Creme Brûlée was just ok but overall great take. Manager / host David was gracious and attentive and wait staff was super helpful. We’ll be back.
Very beautiful restaurant. One of my favorite in Boston
Great service work great food
Absolutely delicious. French onion soup, steak tartare and the duck all outstanding
