We we very disappointed with the aloof inattentive service from our waiter. Food was mediocre, however the manager did happily replace eggs that were very overcooked
Gaslight has a wonderful romantic French bistro vibe perfect for a celebratory occasion dinner out.
This food is well prepared, perfectly seasoned, and each dish is wonderfully intriguing for the palette regardless of how ‘mundane’ the item itself might be.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for an elegant evening out to get cozy with their loved ones.
Make sure to leave room for dessert, the bread pudding and beignets are scrumptious
Great date night spot! Highly recommend the roasted chicken. Service was quick and friendly, and overall a great atmosphere.
6 of us Went to Gaslight for dinner Friday October 23 for a birthday celebration. Dan the manager made us feel so welcome and prepared a special table! Very enjoyable experience!
We came here for our anniversary and sat outside on the patio. There was light music playing, the food was fantastic, and our waiter did not rush us at all. The bolognese and escargot never disappoint, and the duck cassoulet was also delicious. Not our first time and gaslight and will not be our last!
Charming French bistro with very good food and service. Went for brunch on Sunday, sat inside. Distancing hurts the ambience a bit, since you don't get the cozy, hubbub feeling. Only real complaint is that they had no dessert available. Have been quite a few times and would certainly go again.
We’ve been enjoying our brunch in the last 2 months in Gaslighting. The food is really good and we like the location and overall everything was good.
Service was slowww. Charcuterie board was tiny portions of everything. Hard to share. Food and drinks were fair.
This was an excellent place for outdoor dining. They seemed understaffed as host also cleaned tables. I personally thought host was amazing in all the duties he was doing. Food was excellent and ambiance was on of the best in the city.
We went to Gaslight on August 1st and had an excellent experience, which we expected because we had been there before. Went again tonight for my wife's birthday and were very disappointed. The service was slow; it took forever for them to even take our order though it didn't seem that busy. The appetizer (beet salad) was quite good, but my wife's entree (veal Milanese) was overcooked - dark brown outside and dry inside - it looked like it had been deep fried. When she said that to the wait person who delivered it, he did absolutely nothing. Instead he offered to take the remaining beet salad, but when I asked him to box it up, he refused. "Your server will be by to check on you," he said and left. And then we waited some more. Eventually I went and got the maitre d' who did take care of us, and they comped her meal, but the replacement (branzio) and my meal (moules fritte) were kind of uninspiring. We decided that we'd skip dessert given all this, and paid our bill, but the maitre d' lost our parking ticket instead of validating it. He found it on the floor and said it had been validated, but it wasn't - $25 charge at the parking lot. Fortunately the parking attendant remembered us and comp'd the parking ticket. SO - we didn't really get ripped off because so much was comp'd but we went for a great meal to celebrate a milestone birthday, not to spend 2.5 hours waiting on mediocre food.
At one point I asked what was wrong, had everyone recently quit, and he said yes. It's sad so many restaurants are struggling during COVID and so many have gone under; Gaslight has gone under too, it's just they haven't closed yet.
Our waiter was working both inside and out and seemed to be overworked. Trying to get our check was like dining at a European restaurant -- maybe that's not a bad thing!
Nice outdoor patio with plentiful heat lamps! Great service.
I feel like the quality of food has gone down at Gaslight since I came a year ago. I understand COVID has made it difficult for restaurants to operate and all but it feels like this isn’t the super exciting luxurious place this was a year ago. I wasn’t very impressed.
Our first indoor dining experience and it was really fantastic. Plenty of room, great food and friendly service. Will be back.
Extremely underwhelming in every way! Very disappointing!
Slow service, good food.
It was great. Could you start offering waffles and/or pancakes for brunch? Thanks from a loyal customer
Great service and food. Don’t like the wine glasses. Sorryyyy
Food was okay, nothing inherently bad about it but a lack of flavor profiles, everything was overly salty to make up for that. Crispy artichoke salad was nothing more than deep fried artichoke hearts served in a bowl full of grease. The halibut fish was cooked perfect but again everything was just overly salty. Service was not good, friendly staff but we couldnt get a glass of wine and the assisting staff (food runners etc) either didnt speak English or just werent allowed to take drink orders. Outdoor seating was nice, but overall I would skip this place
The restaurant has a nice patio with ample shade and heaters, though we did not need them during this brunch outing, in mild weather. The free parking is an enormous plus.
Food was very good but the service was a bit lacking.
This is my boyfriend and I’d new favorite date spot! The atmosphere is relaxed yet upscale, amazing menu options, and the quality and amount of food you get for the price really can’t be beat for the area! Plus there’s complimentary parking.
We scheduled a brunch/lunch at Gaslight over the weekend. Some notables from the restaurant:
* We were sat promptly at our reservation time :)
* There are 2 sections of tables. One section is on the main patio. These have nice seats/chairs, with heaters. The other section is in an alleyway/walkway against bushes facing a gym. It's a poor ambiance and not a good vibe. Be very careful where you get seated.
* The waiter took 20 minutes to come to ask for drinks/our order. They were serving the main section. And the tables in the alleyway closest to the door.
* The restaurant was out of food. We asked for 3 different dishes off the main menu, and they couldn't take our order because the ingredients were out.
Summary: The restaurant isn't what it used to be prior to COVID. I hope that they can improve, but the ambiance, service time, and dishes are lacking. It's not worth the current menu prices.
Dinner was awesome! The staff was super friendly. Eating outside was really nice. They had heat lamps up everywhere.
Gaslight is our favorite spot for brunch so we decided to try their dinner. The food was delicious as usual and the service was great! We will be back.
Food was ok but not great. Salmon overcooked. Service slow but ambiance was good
Duck was good. Food came very late.
We had the escargot very good & the a duck was delicious!!
Our reservation was for 5:00 pm and we were received into a friendly, quiet atmosphere.
Our food was well prepared and tasty: onion soup, escargot for appetizers were great.
Main courses of mussels and steak frites were excellent. Service was very friendly, and attentive to our requests. It was a perfect evening.
They didn’t have enough staff to cover the shift.
Food was relatively fine, but way overpriced for the quality. The waitstaff was nice enough but very amateur. The wine list was very weak and the waiter was pushing me to get the $100 bottles of wine without any understanding of what he was selling. Couldn't really understand him either. I used to go here years ago and loved it - but wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants professional service. Music was bad too.
Great place for a relaxing meal. Ate inside and it was quiet. Miss the old brunch special menu but my mushroom omelette was tasty!
Wonderful outdoor brunch. Food and drinks were excellent. Waiter was friendly. Perfect.
Poor service when we arrived and 20+ people were waiting to speak to a Host to check in for reservations or get on the list for tables. No staff available to assist or provide any information for 15 minutes. Once we spoke to someone, answer was that they had mis-booked reservations and outdoor seating reserved was not available. Restaurant was out of multiple bottles of wine on the menu and food was mediocre and overpriced. The one bright spot was our server who was attentive and personable. Unfortunately we won't be returning to Gaslight based on this underwhelming experience -- there are many better options for restaurants nearby in the South End.
Lovely night for outdoor patio. Food is always great, as is the waitstaff.
We sat outside & it was cold but unbelievably good food. Bloody Marys are excellent also.
Loved being outside but we were next to the only heater that wasn’t on. We asked two different servers to see about turning it on to no avail.
It was quite windy and became a bit uncomfortable.
Loved my eggs Benedict!
Bloody Mary served in very narrow glass which didn’t give you much to drink.
I will return and hope to sit inside next time.
Why I choose the gaslight:
So I decided to make the reservation at gaslight brasserie because I was looking forward to visit a good reviewed restaurant to celebrate my first anniversary married. So we made the reservation for 9:15 P.M.
We arrived by 9.13 P.M and Since the moment we got seat we realized they were cleaning the restaurant to close it down. The lights were being removed for the tables etc. But it was fine, it didn't bother us.
We had our waiter changed without knowing, I even ask the second: "can I order with you? an he said it: "Oh, sorry, I'm your server now". Although both of them were polite and very attentive. The last one was Armando, very calm and gave us the necessary moment to order, But struggled in how to describe the itens that I asked in the Menu.
We ordered cocktails and as aperitifs: French onion soup with gruyere and truffle fries. They literally came out 1 minute after we order. But it went back to the kitchen because our drinks weren't served.
So the cocktails were served, I had a Bees knees which is a cocktail with gin, honey and lime. As a former bartender and server I'd definitely be concerned about serving on the table a 14.50$ cocktail in a dessert liquor glass with a measure of 1/3 of my hand.
For the Entrées we ordered the Pan Roast Faroe Island Salmon which It was what I expected and the Pan Roasted Branzino which was rich of flavors and a considerable amount in the plate. With the dishes, white wine for the table.
Well, honestly, I thought by making the reservation later we would have more privacy and time to enjoy our night as it was supposed to be. Instead, I felt a little rush to have the dinner and be able to make everyone finishes the shift. I didn't feel the pressure from the server, but we knew they were there waiting for us to leave.
So, the gaslight is definitely a good place to go in the early evening and, perhaps, with less expectations than I had it.
This is the type of restaurant a 12-year old would think is a real upscale joint. Food is average, service is average, ambiance is average. Only gem was the waiter made one of the best martinis I've had in ages. Aside from that it just wasn't for us. I remember going years ago and it being much better.
