One if us had special if wagu beef, shrimp and lobster. Lobster and shrimp were good, beef just so so. I had shrimp and crab cake. Crab tasted slightly stale as if the bread crumbs were old. Iceberg wedge salad was excellent! Server was very nice..
Always fun and good food. Can't beat the happy hour
The truffle fries caused a smell that turned everyone in our party OFF. We almost asked to move our seat. The smell eventually dissipated.
We've been going there for many years, and it is always good. This time seemed to be even a step up in food quality. They have also expanded their wine list. Great mountain ambiance.
We loved this place. Great service and food was delicious.
Very crowded, small space. Food was good but nothing special for the price.
Love this restaurant but wasn’t overly impressed this time around. My steak was tasty and cooked perfect but wasn’t very warm when brought out. Green beans were rubbery too. Nail in the coffin, they don’t carry Heineken. WTH?
I thought the food was OK. Parking was horrible. I know the place is famous around these parts. However, I thought the food would be exceptional and it was only OK
Perfect place to dine after a long day on the slopes or to delta special occasion. Delicious, unique, quality food and superb service...We’ll definitely return during our next mountain trip.
I’ve loved this place for years so I have it 4 stars but it’s probably a solid 3. Not what it use to be...a solid 5.
Casual rustic hunting lodge feel. Great service. Amazing food. Unique and well-prepared game
There are now so many good restaurants in the Vail valley that the venerable Gas House gets overlooked or underrated. We enjoyed the funky, casual western atmosphere, the contented buzz from diners in the know, and four excellent meals. They are known for their game dishes, but there is plenty to choose from other than game, including enticing seafood selections, terrific lamb t-bones, soups and chili’s, burgers, and succulent prime rib. Service was efficient and we will return with pleasure.
Whole family (15 people); enjoyed our outing
I carefully asked about how much breading was in the crab cakes and was assured the chef was from Maryland and used very little of it. They were nearly all bread with hardly any crab. Very disappointing.
I was a bit wary because of some bad reviews, but we were meeting some locals & they suggested this restaurant. We had great service & the food was really good.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. There were 6 of us and each one of us left amazed at how great the meal was. Lindsay did a fantastic job - attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. Despite the full house she made us feel like we were her only table.
Neat place, unique experience! Thank you
Log cabin setting makes for a comfortable, cozy, and relaxed atmosphere. Service was prompt, friendly. Many choices on the menu - along with many specials. I opted for the locally raised lamb t-bone and twice baked potato. Lamb was very tender.
Aside from the manager or only telling us he might not be able to seat us if we were 10 minutes late, it was a great experience. I called to let the restaurant know we were going to be late due to a literally last minute water leak in my home. It put us behind 10 minutes as we had to locate the leak and shut off the water. When I called, the manager told me he had a table behind us at 7pm. So he was already worried about the revenue from the table behind us rather than the one in front of him? And had he not sat us, would he have sat a walk in table and just said they had to be out by 7? It just didn't make sense and got us off to the wrong start. As East Vail residents, we really like supporting local businesses and this set the wrong tone for dinner. Fortunately, Lindsay was outstanding and she snapped us all out of it. She deserves all of the credit for being fun and having a great attitude. Food was outstanding as always, and our guests from Denver have already asked about going back.
Loved the wild game platter and especially the special Colorado striped bass
The food was respectable - not my personal preference but everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. The service was atrocious, however. Our entire table has extensive experience in the restaurant industry and never have we witnessed such rude and rushed behavior. Being a relatively well-known restaurant in the greater Vail Valley I would have expected so much more. It was a true disappointment. Won't be returning ever again.
Our only complaint is that our Caesar Salads consisted of white and brown romaine instead their usual green romaine. The entrees were the usual delicious. It was so noisy that you couldn't talk across the table without shouting.
My third visit to Gashouse and it has gotten progressively worse. Went with a big group of friends.
I ordered the fried chicken on the advice of our waitress. Might be one of the worst meals I have ever eaten. Two planks of frozen chicken dipped in some type of batter and heated. The back potato was a conglomerate of melted cheese on top of a stale potato. Almost inedible. The "mixed vegetables" tasted like they were sautéed in kerosene. I hate to write negative reviews but I will never go back. Next to us was a table of adults and young children. I love kids but they screamed during the entire meal. Headache territory. I am a local and want every restaurant to succeed but this was horrible. Don't waste your time or money.
Great local place. Not the cheapest, but the portions are nice and the service is very friendly.
Comfortable, old time eatery for meat and seafood. Outstanding selection. Great selection of delicious game dishes as well. All food is well prepared and generously portioned. This is our go to spot for a relaxing dinner and great food.
We enjoy dining at the Gashouse with some frequency. When guests come to visit, we invariably bring them to this restaurant because of its friendly atmosphere and good food.
Gashouse is where you want to go for healthy wild game. Prices are very good and service was excellent.
Food was good! My elk loin was a bit tough but the buffalo was excellent. Only complaint was the unwillingness to split our check. Granted, we had 8-9 people so I understand it would take some effort, but figuring out how to pay a bill with 8-9 people is a pain in the neck.
We eat there every year for the last 20 years, my favorite entre was the buffalo rib and its no longer on the menu. ate the quail which I really enjoy.
Gashouse is wonderful! The food was fantastic and the service was amazing!
I was disappointed after arriving and finding a crowded and very encolosed environment. But most of all , the food was only average and definitely not worth the price paid. The cheesecake was the worst dessert I've been served.
We’ve been to this restaurant several times as it was a favorite until this trip. We made a reservation weeks ago for 11. When we arrived the hostess was rude and our table wasn’t ready. A couple in our party was a few min late bc of an unexpected transportation issue. eight of us sat, ordered drinks and appetizers. When the last couple arrived we were just getting our appetizers. We all ordered our meals while we were eating appetizers. The waiter forgot to bring a salad but was nice enough not to charge for it. When we asked for a dessert menu we were told it has to be quick bc another party was waiting. We ordered 2 desserts and when we received them another one was requested. The waiter said that he didn’t know if the manatger would allow him to serve it bc they needed us to leave so they could serve the other party. We spoke with the owner and he was argumentative and claimed we were 35-40 min late when we were actually 5 min early and they didn’t have our table ready. Our table total was at least $600. We were rushed out and treated horribly. We will NEVER return. I never give reviews but we were treated so poorly that I felt it was necessary
Have been going to the Gashouse for 20 years; never disappoints! Great Colorado cuisine (make sure to try the quail!), creative cocktails (lemon blueberry martini anyone?) and friendly, professional service in a casual, fun atmosphere.
Service was excellent and the wild sausage sampler was delicious. I didn't love the Elk steak. It was a little tough and hard to cut up. The ribs and salad were great.
new year’s eve dinner.
the food was just okay.
New Years Eve in Vail, CO. Made 6:30 pm reservation for 6 adults through Open Table & received confirmation from Open Table & the Gashouse Restaurant. Arrived before 6:30 pm & was told our table was being prepared. We were offered the opportunity to be seated earlier in the bar where a 4 top table would become a 6 top by adding chairs at both ends. Although there was a 6 top right next to the 4 top, we were told we could not sit at the 6 top table. Between the time we walked & 6:45 pm, 2 parties of 2 & 1 party of 5 were seated. At 7:05 pm, a party of 6 adults & 1 child were immediately seated at the 6 top table in the bar & a tall high chair was added for the child. I addressed the seating issue multiple times with the hostess (50-60ish looking woman) & was told “we are working on your table.” When the party of 7 was seated at 7:05 pm, ahead of us, I was told that they had a 7:00 pm reservation (30 minutes after our reservation). The hostess requested that the manager talk to us about seating. He did and said “I’m sorry & we are working on your table.” At 7:15 pm, we were seated at a 4 top table in the main dining room. Remember, the table we received was the exact same type of table as we were offered & we declined in the bar. They added chairs at both ends of the table & seated our party of 6 adults (5 males 1 female). There were 4 empty 2 top tables in the dining area were in, 3 of which surrounded our table on three sides. All could have easily been pushed tour table to create space for all six adults. ELIZABETH, our waitress, was EXCEPTIONAL. The food was edible at best. We had 2 elk steaks, 1 Alfredo dish with elk, 1 fillet mignon, 1 prime rib & 1 “house specialty crab cake dinner. Our bill was $209 +$50 tip (gratuity was not added). As we finished our meal, a party of two was seated next to our table leaving three untouched & empty 2 top tables with two of them right next to our table. The Gashouse setup the waitress for a bad tip!
So my husband and I have been eating here since the late 1980’s and have brought friends and family so this review is not given lightly. I made a reservation for New Year’s Eve, an early one so we wouldn’t get into the late night crowd. I made the reservation at least a week in advance. Upon entry, we were treated horribly by the management and especially the hostess. We were stunned and not at all sure why. We were told we had only an hour and a half and then had to leave. Mind you we were not told this at the time I made my reservation. There were thirteen of us. In the section we were in, there were five empty tables the entire time we were there. We ordered drinks, lots of food and were very well behaved. The food was mediocre...at best and that’s being generous, and it was expensive. Once we finished the waitress told us she wasn’t able to offer us dessert and we had to leave because they needed the table. The only nice thing I can say is the waitress was super and seemed to be embarrassed by management. Don’t waste your time or money. Don’t pay people to treat you this way and charge you for generic cafeteria food. Sadly, In light of our experience, I went back and read reviews to find there are quite a few who had the same experience. All I can say is that everything about this restaurant was TERRIBLE! Ironically, we ate a few nights ago at Splendido. Go there! It’s a five star restaurant and impeccable. We were treated like royalty and didn’t spend any more. Ironic. The Gas House is TERRIBLE. Don’t go.
A lovely family lunch - much needed after expensive mountain dining all week. The food is honest , tasty and authentic Colorado fayre. We will definitely be back!
Love this place! Never disappoints! Lamb chops da bomb
We were greeted fatty, chewy bad cuts of meat for a $34 filet mignon and their touted wagyu sirloin special for $28. Doubt it was even a good cut of sirloin...let alone wagyu. Greasy, bland side items. We will not go back. There is a reason this place started as a gas station.
