Garufa Argentinean Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Wow! I found this restaurant on Yelp. As soon as my plane landed in ELP, I Yelped steak restaurants, and Garufa was on the list. I reserved a table and I am so glad I did.
Excellent service, delicious food, steak cooked just right, delicious wine, fabulous guitarist and the owner/manager walked to every table to greet his patrons and checked to see if we were satisfied with our meal and service.
Mind you, I came straight from the airport and was not dressed for the beautiful restaurant, but they made me feel right at home.
The next time I am in El Paso, I will dine here.
We have been to Garufa several times. Usually our dining experience is awesome, but this last time the experience was subpar. We typically order the 21 oz ribeye, baked potato, mushrooms, caprese salad, empanadas, and a bottle of wine. The steak is usually phenomenal, but it was just ok at our last visit - not as tender. The empanadas were tasty, but cold in the middle. The service was lacking - our waiter was inattentive. It took a while to get a wine list, overall attention to detail was off, and we felt we were treated differently than other diners.
Well to make a long story short. I made reservations on OpenTable and was all set to take my lovely wife to garufas to celebrate Mother's Day. Thank god I called the day before where I was advised my reservation would not be honored and it was first come first serve. Come on Management at garufas be professional if you want to be a High end respected establishment act like one. If you are not going to honor reservations don't advertise on OpenTable or at least have the respect for your patrons or potential patrons and advise them you are not accepting reservations on that day. Bottom line is we went somewhere else and had a great Time. The sad thing is garufas has soooooo much potential! Happy dining and see you around El Paso!
Although my reservation was confirmed by Open Table, when we arrived at the restaurant it was closed!!!
Also, this survey forces me to give at least one star when I don't want to give any stars, a very poor survey format! How can I assign stars when I never even got in the restaurant?!?!
This was a date night dinner for my wife and I and we were both excited to try a new upscale steakhouse. We could not have been more disappointed. For starters we booked on open table and theycould not find our reservation. They took care of it and seated us. However that's when it all went bad. It took us 10 min to get an iced tea and water. We ordered a 21 oz aged ribeye, 2 potatoes, and a lobster tail to share. The service was extremely slow. When our food came everything was cold, particularly the potatoes which could not even melt the butter. We asked for our steak medium and it was well done. The Lobster tail was the only thing of value but even that was cold. Needless to say we were very disappointed and will definitely not return. There are countless other places to get better food in El Paso. Do yourself a favor and pick another place to get a steak.
We, our work team, has dined here several times. Every time the service has been extremely slow although the restaurant has not been very busy. The quality of the food is okay but does not warrant the prices. The lamb was over cooked (three of us ordered it). The quality of the stakes, ordered by several others in the group, was mediocre.
We will not be returning.
My family and I were there on New Year's Eve and ordered the steak and lobster. We each ordered a different cut of steak. At first glance the steaks looked beautiful, but we couldn't cut into them and even worse you couldn't swallow the meat because it was impossible to break down. The steaks were ALL gristle. The steaks were a huge disappointment. We will not be returning.
I was very excited to try La Garufa. However, I was quickly disappointed. The restaurant was more or less empty on the main dining floor. We were a party of 3, there for a business dinner. Our server did not approach the table to even give water until 10 minutes after we were seated. We had to pull him aside to even ask for a drink from the bar as he did not ask if we wanted anything. And for refills, again he did not offer, we practically had to make him take the order and then he did not even bring one of them. Not the type of service I expect - especially for the price of the food & drink. We eventually were able to order 3 appetizers. Only 1 was delivered, which was disappointing in itself but no one even asked if we liked it or not. The server was very scarce the entire time and when I got a chance to ask him if he was going to bring the rest of the appetizers he said no and walked away - not acceptable - he could have at least made up an excuse but he didn't seem to even care in the least. The main entrees were delivered which were ok but not as ordered. We tried to add lobster tails to 2 of the entrees but the restaurant was out and so one of us substituted to shrimp but it was placed with the wrong entrée. I had requested sautéed jalapenos be added to my meal and when I asked where they were after the meals had been delivered, I was told they were out. As a former server, I do not understand how this server makes any tips from the type of service we experienced from him (he did not appear to be new or in training - so new excuses there). We will not return and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Other than the empanadas, the rest of the meal was mediocre. My NY Strip, though tasty, had far too much grizzly fat attached as did one of our dining companions. The side of creamed spinach should have been cream with a little bit of spinach- the dish had almost no spinach in it and it was far too salty. Overall, not pleasant and we won't return, except maybe to get empanadas, which are wonderful. This is our third experience in the past several years and I've had similar misgivings after each time.
Our group ordered 4 steaks and all different cuts. Every single one came out extremely under cooked. 2 of them got sent back to be cooked more and came back exactly the same! The plate of creamed spinach was a plate of cream with a spoonful of spinach. This will be out last time coming here.
the food was very good. the servers need a lot of training. we had to flag down our server over and over for everything from ordering drinks, to getting water to clearing dishes. they are very poorly trained. when they did come to the table they usually interrupted a conversation, reached over us to get plates or serve plates. They were not mean or disrespectful just clueless on how to wait on people. also we speak English and our server and little to no command of English. very rude to be like that and very irritating.
The service was good and their wine list is pretty extensive along with an full bar. Their food could do for a little better seasoning and they have no salt and pepper available on their tables so you're force to eat the bland food. Also they could add to their nonachohol beverage menu as well.
"I like the relaxed feel of this place. I definitely would return. The tuna appetizer was amazing and the steak was juicy and tender. My wife and I love this place for its intimacy, great wine list and a great place for intimate conversation. The service was good, very friendly and affordable."
Marcus was fantastic! The tempo for food and service was spot on. Wine list was excellent--with great wines by the glass. Marcus made an us an incredible caramel flambé crepe.
Some of the best service we have ever had from everyone. Host, hostesses, waiter, busboys....everyone. Thank you. We will be back
This was our first time at this restaurant and made the reservations through Open Table. When we arrive the hostess had no clue about the reservations and she was not very welcoming or friendly, very dry personality. I can tell you the restaurant was very clean, service was remarkable and I am totally serious when I say they served the best 21 day old rib eye (medium) I have had in El Paso. I probably will not get any points from that visit, but that steak made up for it. My family and I will definitely return.
Fantastic! This is THE place for steak. Service was phenomenal and the meal was top shelf. No children's menu, but we found options that were amenable to the kids.
They called us the day before to confirm our reservation, and persuaded us to change to a later time, citing a large crowd expected on Mothers Day. We arrived 30 minutes early and the restaurant was less than half full. We were seated immediately. 45 minutes after being seated, the hostess called my cell phone to see if we were going to arrive. I waved at her across the room while speaking on the phone with her and she apologized and hung up. Some obvious confusion with their reservation and seating system.
However, none of this detracted from a fabulous experience!
