Raleigh is so lucky to have such a place. Food has always been phenomenal. The Bossam gives me all the feels. <3
Delicious as always! Wonderful new drink list and specials.
Amazing as always, never disappoints!
Fantastic restaurant with amazing food. Wish it was a little quieter so that I could enjoy my table conversation, but they said they are working on some solutions.
As always, the food was fabulous and the noise level almost reaches the point of no return.
We had been to the restaurant once before with friends, and had enjoyed it. This time, however, the food was a disappointment. My wife had lamb curry: it had four small pieces of lamb that were grainy and flavorless, with undercooked vegetables. I had chicken tandori - it came as a kebob (I have never seen tandori on a kebob before) and the meat was chewy and dry - not succulent as tandori should be. We have eaten a lot of Indian food, including in India, and this Indian food did not come up to average. Perhaps we hit a bad night (it was Friday the 13th!)
Garland is fantastic. The menu changes frequently and offers creative takes on food with Indian, Middle Eastern, and American influences, including Southern, to name a few. I've eaten here several times, and each time I am struck by how personable the staff are. This is easily one of the top Raleigh restaurants for me.
Amazing food, exceptional service! Couldn’t be any better. I will be back!
Our first experience with this talented and creative chef....cannot wait to return!
The food was spectacular! Wonderful flavors. We’ve been to Garland about 4-5 times but this was by far the noisiest experience we’ve had. If we could he offered a table in an area that is less noisy, we would think about coming back more often. We will be back, but never on a Saturday night.
Amazing — per usual. Garland has quickly become our favorite spot in Raleigh. The food, service, and atmosphere is nothing less than incredible. Every time we come here we leave having had a better experience than the time before. If there’s one place that you have to eat at when in Raleigh, it’s Garland.
Four of us made our way through 95% of the small plates menu and loved nearly everything on it. Creative, flavorful, and fun. I look forward to going back and hopefully being hungry enough to try some big plates, and even dessert.
Had out of town company visiting. We wanted to go to a restaurant that offered , interesting, unique, fresh local food that we could share lots of small plates. Everyone enjoyed the variety and lively atmosphere. The service and dining experience was fantastic.
The restaurant called to confirm our reservation the morning of, and asked if I had any dietary restrictions. I told them I couldn’t have dairy, and they said no problem. When we arrived, we were immediately seated. The waitress came over shortly after. She spoke so quietly, we both strained to hear her. She simply asked if we wanted anything other than water, but because we just sat down, we were unsure and she just turned to leave. Usually, that’s a good opportunity to confirm any dietary restrictions, let us know about specials, or walk us through the menu. Not the case here. We had some difficulty with the menu, understanding the size of the small and large plates and how we should combine them to make sure we had enough food. When the waitress came back, I asked her to help identify the small plates that didn’t have dairy. There were 3 in total, none of which I was particularly interested in and this surprised me because ethnic restaurants are typically great for me with a dairy intolerance.
We picked a small and large plate. Neither were impressive or anything to write home about. After recently relocating to Raleigh, I was excited about trying the great restaurants downtown. This unfortunately wasn’t one of them.
As a side note, we liked the pennies on the bathroom floor, but that shouldn’t have been a highlight of our evening.
Wonderful meal! Server was very helpful with meal likes & dislikes!! An enjoyable evening out!!
Lovely service, great food, good prices. Parking is a hassle downtown but oh well. Spices were so yum!
Terrific entrees! The cucumber salad was a little on the simple side but tasty. Beer selection only so-so. Very loud, but it was Friday night.
Best food in Raleigh
The food and service were excellent. Loud table near us made it difficult to talk.
Hip, fun place with unexpectedly great food that will surprise you in how good and innovative it is.
The food is delicious! Fresh and lots of options! Our server was friendly and fantastic! We had to be at our concert venue at 7 :30 and the manager graciously drove us to Meymandi!! I would definitely recommend Garland and will return to sample some other yummy food!
Food, service and ambiance was excellent. Knowledge of waitstaff was awesome and everyone from hostess to food server was very pleasant and welcoming. The place can get noisy when packed and after about 8 the band upstairs is a little bothersome but all and all a wonderful experience. Again - food and service was excellent
Garland has a pretty good reputation locally, so we were really looking forward to the visit. The problems began when we walked in the door and were hit by the blast of noise. We thought we were lucky to get seated in the back where it might have been quieter, but the thumping from their adjacent club took care of that.
Service from the waitperson was poor. She could not describe one of the menu items and got both drink orders wrong. (maybe it was the noise) Drinks did not arrive until our appetizers had gotten there. I never had a chance to order another beer, she didn't come back until dessert. Her mind was elsewhere, maybe another planet. One of the servers, a guy with his arm in a cast, was pretty good.
Food was imaginative but nothing really remarkable.
Raleigh Restaurant Week is in full swing. Tasty dishes galore!
Great drinks. Enjoyed sharing 3 small plates and 3large for 4 people. Prices were reasonable. Food was memorable.
Great job all around
The soft shell crab was delicious
A meal at Garland is always so special - super fresh, local greens and vegetables, local fish, and all prepared to perfection. The staff is friendly and professional. My favorite NC restaurant!
Favorite restaurant! One of the folks at the dinner begged the chef to open a sister restaurant in NYC. I’m always so delighted by the high quality local food with international flavors...Garland is a winner. We felt lucky to get a table and had a fabulous meal!
Modern Indian inspired food--one of my favorite Raleigh restaurants! Will return often!
We had friends visiting from New Zealand and wanted to take them some place special. As usual, Garland did not disappoint. The food, drinks and service was excellent.
Like many current restaurants, just irritatingly noisy.
This place is one of the crown jewels of the Raleigh dining scene. The food is fresh, incredibly flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Service is consistently friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is relaxed and charming.
Outtstanding as always, with complex flavors I'd never attempt at home.
Food and service were very good, but the club next door playing music way too loud made it hard to carry on a conversation in the restaurant without YELLING.
Food was delicious. Would gladly eat here again. Food was inventive. Recommend the Moroccan hummus and potato sharing plates.
Really unusual and delicious food. Terrific service.
As usual a delicious twist on a lunchtime favorite: this time pork tacos and a luscious tender Greens/herbs, cucumber, peanut salad. Engaging playlist in the background and shiny happy people at every table!
Outstanding and innovative cuisine!
