Garibaldi's on Presidio Ratings and Reviews
We booked through OpenTable for Valentine’s Day for myself, my wife, and 9 year old son. When we sat down, we discovered that it was a special fixed menu deal for $75/person. We had no idea this was the case before booking. When we asked whether we could perhaps get some pasta with butter for our child, they guy was a bit of a jerk- completely oblivious to how it was unfair to blindside us with the fixed fee meal without prior notice. He essentially said, live with it. So we went through with the meal. The meal was fine. Worth $75 per person including for a 9 year old? Definitely not.
I do like going here overall but the quality of the food varies a great deal depending on what I order. This was not a great meal.
But often enough there is something really tasty (The killer Minestrone on a previous visit, the chicken Milanese on a previous visit). I love the lamb tenderloins at dinner (awesome) but the lunch version this day was disappointing (lettuce instead of couscous; doesn't hit the spot....and I miss the pistachios. If they don't feel like cooking the green beans at lunch then at least give us the couscous!!!!). I know there is some good cooking going on here in the kitchen....but I wish I could help design the menu once in a while!
Garibaldi’s is excellent. The menu is diverse enough to accommodate all eaters and special enough to please everyone. The services is always pleasant and the food is consistently delicious. This is one of my go-to places when catching up with friends over lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed.
Enjoyed our visit. As we arrived early had a drink at the bar before moving to our table by the front window. Wait service was good about checking in if we were ready to order and bringing my salad, but main meals seemed to take longer than others that were seated after us. Our meals were good though portion size maybe a bit smaller than some other slimiar establishments. Would return for happy hour and bar bites.
Subpar overall. Food well prepared, service mixed. Wine menu had itself confused with a higher end restaurant. Ran out of Risotto before 7:30pm. One must 'request' bread, which was a bit odd, particularly as it was printed on the menu. We found we had to ask more than once to actually receive said bread. Considering the price, a rather middling dining experience. Too bad as the space was lovely.
It took fifteen minutes for a server to recognize me sitting at the table by myself!! The restaurant was not even busy!!
No one offered me any drinks to start.. not even the hostess, Cate (who I follow on Instagram).
I did get up to use the restroom and eventually flagged Cate to place an order for me.
I was disappointed with the experience and will be moving forward!
As always Garibaldi's was an elegant and comfortable venue with impeccable cuisine and service. My lamb salad was superb and your greens were, as always, perfect - fresh and tasty!
My friend, visiting from Seattle, arrived early and was concerned that the noise level was high. However, for our 2pm reservation that issue had disappeared and she was delighted with her chicken sandwich. She usually eats like a bird, but she could not leave even a crumb.
I find Garibaldi's to be my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Subtle elegance and a wonderful menu.
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Garibaldi’s for years, but the food seems to have slipped a little. The lamb salad, which has always been a favorite, was not served in the usual bowl and just didn’t come up to the salad in the past. Also, the Budino, which is my favorite dessert, has lost the hazelnuts in place of large and very hard almonds. At the very least you should use toasted and sliced almonds - the dessert doesn’t need any more sugar in the sugar coated almonds. The last time I ate there I had the mussels and there were too few and they were to sandy, so I think I need to scout out another neighborhood spot. Disappointing.
I LOVE Garabaldi's....been going here for many years and always enjoy myself...just a couple of things I find annoying...it's SOOOO loud in there that I find myself hoarse from yelling afterwards and secondly, I think the prices aren't fair for what you get. On this visit I ordered the chopped salad (my favorite salad on the planet) and it seemed smaller and more expensive. Also, my dinner partner had the pasta and it barely covered the bottom of the pasta bowl...please don't misunderstand...I'm not a big eater and NEVER expect huge portions (nor want them), but their portions just don't seem to equate to the price.
Great food and service. Really impeccable service with attentive waiters. It reminds me of old school SF. Attracts an older, less diverse crowd that is characteristic of the neighborhood so you may feel out of place if younger than 50. It is loud and dark. Hard to hear companion.
We shared small plates. All great, especially the salmon tartare and carrots. Short ribs were very tender. Profiteroles look better than they tasted.
I'll be back.
Have always loved this neighborhood restaurant but felt like it needs some new ideas and innovation. The chicken Milanese was very good but the salad was limp and weighted down with too much dressing. You have to ask for bread now and we received 3 small pieces for 3 people.
Brought a friend visiting from the UK. Like that it is in a neighborhood - and reflects far more of San Francisco than the craziness downtown etc. Perfect spot - for what we were looking for. Food very good - noise level just right for catching up with an old friend.
Service was extremely slow even though restaurant was not at capacity. Two people out of 4 got sick immediately after meal. Salmon was undercooked and lamb tenderloin was served cooked but not plated hot. Main courses came long after starters, that not only our waitstaff apologized but so did the manager. They comped a dessert but then didn’t take it off the bill. Chocolate Bodino came out as a soup.
Highly disappointing in so many ways.
Great neighborhood restaurant with a sophisticated but comfortable feel, friendly staff and great imaginative food. The lamb tenderloin was flavored and cut to have an upscale resemblance to merguez, which was both fun and really flavorful. The roasted root appetizer also had great flavors and a unique presentation. And the Perfect Perfect Manhattan was just that! Will return.
The restaurant was wonderful as always, but the service was delayed to our table because the service staff was not adequately informed who should serve us. After that, everything was handled well.
The food was good, but the mushroom soup was a little bland that night. Additionally the dessert was oddly plated in a glass (Spiced pumpkin cake, fruit and whipped cream cheese). It was not easy to eat.
However, the ambiance of this restaurant is always enjoyable. We will go back!
Welcome to what a friend calls a “Presidio Heights Private Club.” Very comfortable and cozy with white linen tablecloths.
We started with an excellent chicken liver pâté with toast points and cornichons, very smooth and silky. The bar did not have a glass of sauterne to accompany the pâté, which I thought odd.
An interesting green salad with apples, walnuts, and goat cheese which was severely underdressed, almost dry.
Main course, my wife picked the chicken Milanese, an inspired choice, which we split. More than ample portions, tasty!
We had a nice bottle of Poderi San Lazaro Pecorino from the Marche region of Italy, nice complement to the meal and affordable.
