Gari Japanese Fusion Bistro Ratings and Reviews
After discovering they weren't kid-welcoming a few years ago (no crayons permitted to dirty their tables - despite our table being covered in about a dozen gouges that looked like cigarette burns), now that our kids are a little older we decided to give them another try. Food was pretty good (chicken overdone, and yellowtail maki was ground up not a whole piece). We'd consider giving it another try - though might give better instruction to the chef.
We looked for a Japanese restaurant close by and found Gari on Open Table. Got there early (5:00) and it was very quiet, which was great for us. The menu was extensive and the service was excellent. They were very attentive and provided good cocktail recommendations.
Food quality was very good (seared tuna and Alaskan roll). Ambiance is nice as well.
Will definitely go back.
Tried to take the family on Mother's Day, big mistake. They took more bookings than they could handle. We waited for 45 minutes after our reservation time, and still were not seated, and seemed to seat one group ahead of us that had the same reservation time and arrived after us. Service was obviously slow at the tables too, so we said forget it, and went elsewhere. The food may be great, but they need to do a better job of handling crowds!
Gari has delicious food. Granted it was Mother's Day but the service was abysmal. We waited over 30 minutes for our reserved table. The hostess barely looked at me while she attended to several take-out customers. My elderly parents and I were forced to wait in a crowded space while servers had to constantly ask us to move out of the way. We were never offered a drink or snack as we waited and waited. We did not receive food until 7:30 ; our reservation was for 6. Although the hostess was apologetic--I felt we were not treated well. My recommendation is to order out and avoid the terrible service. We even had trouble getting our waitress to accept payment. We absolutely deserved better. A minimal gesture like offering us tea or a quick snack immediately upon sitting would have made all the difference. I will not tolerate a restaurant that makes you feel like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to spend money at their place. I can't imagine going back.
This was our first trip to Gari and it won't be the last. The food was simply wonderful and at a good price point. It was not very busy for a Saturday night but then again - we didn't go till 7:30 and there seemed to be a lot of take out. Its to bad because this is sooo much better than other Japanese Fusion places around the Metro West area and its very easy to park. The wait staff was friendly and we lucked into one of the best waitresses I have ever had - anywhere. She was knowledgeable and patient with our questions - she was smiley and bubbly and truly made a fantastic evening even better. This was definitely a find and my thanks to Open Table because that is how we found it!!!
I enjoy Gari Japanese food. The atmosphere is pleasant, and it would earn 5 stars if the entrees included salad and/or miso soup, which they do not. As a result, the effect is pretty pricey, eating a sushi entree, which is a light item, and then we always feel we need to purchase an additional item like a salad.
First time eating at this local Asian-fusion place. We were in the mood for sushi,
and it was pretty good (fresh, reasonable quality fish) but not special. The Korean
dish at the table next to ours looked great! The service was friendly but inconsistent,
sometimes slow even though the restaurant wasn't full.
We were looking for a creative sushi place that wouldn't burst our budget. My girlfriend was looking for roe sushi. They had a very nice Organic Japanese salad that we shared and the roe and sushi in general was very fresh. The rolls were creative so tasty!
We will definitely return...
I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi were really fresh; the so-called Volcano was pretty amazing (slightly too sweet!). The spicy tuna maki were excellent. The sake list is interesting. It's a bit expensive, but I will go back; one of the best sushi places in the West suburbs of Boston.
Excellent experience again at Gari Restaurant. The sushi is outstanding - fresh, sweet, and a pretty good price. My only complaint is that everything is a la carte, so no salad or soup with the sushi entree, which seems a bit scant. We always have to then purchase a salad or an extra item or two to round out the meal
We really enjoyed going to Gari in Needham. The food was excellent, if a bit heavy on the rice and lighter on the fish on our Donburi. The wine list could offer a bit more varied prices in the glass of wine options. Also, nothing but the fish and rice is included on the dinner sushi menu - no salad, soup, etc. come with the entree, which is not any less expensive than area restaurants that offer the accompaniments with the entree.
Overall, the food was great, atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. Nice place for dinner, but for us it's an occasional treat.
A recent dinner of sashimi, chicken yakitori, and two maki rolls proved a mix of good and very good food.
One of the three sashimi fish was excellent, the others average. The yakitori sauce was very good, but chicken on one of two skewers was a little overcooked. The two specialty maki were very good, however.
Service was mostly attentive, and the atmosphere was fine.
