Wonderful, sophisticated and friendly. Neighborhood spot, no pretension , good diverse menu and yummy
This was our first time dining at Gardenias. We enjoyed the food and ambience. However, our waiter seemed to rush our meal even though we mentioned we would like dishes coursed out. We’ll be back.
Great night out. Food was excellent and the atmosphere was charming.
Gardenias has become a regular go-to in my neighborhood. The food is solid, the atmosphere is friendly, the service is excellent.
Date night for two, reviews looked good. Sunday night holiday weekend so it was dead at 6:45pm. Waitress was not friendly and seemed rushed, it was dead. She walked away mid sentence on our wine selection to another table then walked back? Asparagus was good, braised short rib ok, raviolis cold and lacking sauce. Everything needed salt( bad sign) Wanted this place to be better. Nice location but just average experience.
Fantastic little place! The decor and atmosphere was beyond charming. Our server was personable and very attentive, even on a busy Saturday night. It took the host about 10 minutes to have our table ready (not their fault - the previous party at our table was taking too long) but she was gracious and let us sit at the bar while we waited.
Valentine’s Day prefix seemed like a rip off. $90 for 4 courses, one of which was shared between my husband and I. For it being a small prefixed menu the restaurant seemed unprepared and made multiple parties wait 15+ min for their tables. The meal was fine, and didn’t warrant the high price point.
We went to Gardenias for Valentine’s Day dinner. The menu sounded amazing, but the food turned out either bland or inedible. They were also trying to cycle out tables as soon as possible, so the attention was minimal. For $100 per person, the experience overall was not worth it.
Everything was good. It was a special Price Fixe menu. I ordered the Shirt Ribs which were more fat than meat. I did not complain since I was more wanting a peaceful meal. Everything else was pretty tasty.
The food was very good. Wine by the glass was VERY expensive ($16) per glass. I was the only one at the bar.
What a great find! We’ve walked by many times and finally made it in. Lovely atmosphere, service and food . We split several appetizers and an entree. Each item was delicious. My favorite was a steaming bowl of soup and the duck entree, absolutely wonderful!
This is a definite do!
The main courses were delicious and a decent size. The restaurant was not too large and felt comfortable and homey. The one area that I felt could improve would be the appetizer pricing/size. The cheese plate was $16, but only contained six small pieces of cheese; it seemed a little overpriced. I also wish there were a few cheaper wine options. Overall though the food was delicious and I would recommend for a nice meal out.
Keep in mind we’re older folks... the noise level was very high, made conversation a little difficult. My food was great but 1 at the table of 4 felt theirs was only average. My daughter and husband enjoyed it.
We ordered three appetizers: Socca cake, squid and gnocchi .
Socca cake was too dry, squid itself was well prepared but it came with large slices of very strong jalapeños which totally spoiled the dish. Gnocchi were very good though. In general, appetizers look a bit overpriced.
For the main course my wife and our friend had duck and I had short ribs. Duck was less than inspiring, my dish was ok. Overall food was below expectations for a Michelin Plate restaurant
Great food and excellent service. We ordered a bottle of chardonnay, 1 glass of red wine, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 desserts and a cup of coffee. $217 plus $40 tip. Will come back
The waiter was thoughtful and attentive. The dinner choices were creative, artfully presented and well prepared. The room was cozy and quiet, allowing full conversation. Overall, the meal was a very pleasant experience.
I've been here twice now and both times have been very impressed by the quality of the food and service. There's a nice variety on the menu, including several vegetarian options. I really love the vibe of the restaurant and the atmosphere they've created.
For an upscale restaurant, Garedenias was a let down. The food was fine, the service was fine, and the price was too high for just fine food. I paid $25+ for a ricotta ravioli that could have been sold for half the price elsewhere. Ambiance was quiet and cozy and the restaurant was trendy, but it didn’t overcompensate for the mediocre food or service. I wouldn’t go back again.
What a great evening! The food was very good and the service was incredible. Great wine list. Great ambiance.
Assessment of noise level might be inaccurate as not a busy night. Squid app was excellent.
We've been to Gardenias many times and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and creative; the service great and a wonderful ambiance.
Great food and terrific staff. Will def be back!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
My sudden change of heart after I ordered was met with a smile and taken care of immediately.
I was really impressed and happy to have switched to the Shaved Brussel Sprouts for an appetizer.
The New York Steak was cooked to perfection, the wine recommendation was right on.
Great value for your money. I like that they don't automatically charge you with service charges when you have 5 diners.
Food was really nice quality. Loved the cauliflower soup. Nice neighborhood restaurant with friendly service. I'd definitely come back.
Excellent dining experience. Our server Jeffrey was knowledgeable and friendly without being solicitous. Every dish we had was excellent, the shaved brussel sprout salad, the NY Steak and the Risotto. Yummy! Don’t forget the desert 😊. Nice ambiance too. We’ll definitely be going back!
Beautiful, cozy restaurant on acold night. Foods that were not outstanding were raw brussel sprout salad and duck leg (just too plain, hoped for more flavor). Standout dishes were crostini, cauliflower soup, opah and mushroom risotto. Service was excellent. Loved our table in the window. Wines by the glass were pricey but very good. Will return.
Stumbled across Gardenias on a recent afternoon shopping on Fillmore and learned this is where one of our neighborhood favorites (Woodward Gardens) had decamped to. Booked a table for Saturday and enjoyed dinner with my husband. The space is a lovely low-key blend of Shaker-style tables & chairs, time burnished chandeliers dimmed to warm light and marble topped bar. The only off note is a series of rather bright ceiling lights in the middle of the restaurant in front of the bar service area which mars the ambience - a dimmer would help! Our servers were warm and knowledgeable of the menu, although did not seem all that familiar with the (very good) wine list. The dishes we tried that stood out were the short ribs and an incredible figgy pudding cake dessert. The pork chop dish was oddly "springy" dishes and a bit out of synch with the season. Next visit we'll try the gnocci and socca cake which our dining neighbors appeared to enjoy. Overall very happy to find Woodward Gardens has blossomed into Gardenias and will look forward to our next visit!
Food I ordered, sauteed calamari, was way more spicy than in past. I couldn't eat it. But the waiter brought me a simple salad instead that was very good.
Nice spot. We shared the pear crostini appetizer which was very good. Next we shared the scallop appetizer but thought it was fair, didn’t like the fact that it was chilled not that it was paired with grapefruit. Next was ravioli with ricotta and squash, this was delicious. Finally we Thad the pear torte and it was also delicious!
Solid experience all around. Small, intimate setting with attentive service and menu items that are a little different, yet still grounded in familiarity.
Main dishes a little too salty. Fish dish tasted not fresh. Appetizers were good.
Gardenias met the expectations we were having for this dinner. The starters were good, the entrées were delicious! My wife loved the duck and I enjoyed all the flavours of the Muhroom dish. Gardenias is great for an intimate dinner with excellent food and presentations.
This is an absolute neighborhood gem!
Great time but food was a bit uneven.
Excellent food, excellent service beautiful restaurant, great for any occasion. Will definitely go back again.
I always have a delicious meal and a wonderful dining experience at Gardenia's.
Gardenias is quickly becoming our new favorite place to
Done in the city. For us, it’s just the right size for the two of us or one other couple to join. The service is attentive, professional, and personable. The food is of high quality and the menu changes frequently. We’ve already booked our next reservation for just a couple of weeks from now!
Food is excellent as usual. Our favorite restaurant for great San Francisco food.
