Best dinner we have had in San Francisco. A true neighborhood gem. And we eat out a lot.
Gem of a neighborhood restaurant with a quiet, calm & comfortable interior and a small back patio (also warm). Brief but creative menu of well-prepared options and some very nice wines. Seared scallops in corn mash was mouth-watering and could have been my full dinner if I had ordered more. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly with prompt service. Well worth venturing a little from the fray for this experience.
Great food, great service, and a helpful attitude relative to wine choices. Will definitely visit again.
Excellent food. Excellent service.
Anazing food great service woukd def go agsin!
Neighborhood gem. Excellent short ribs. Interesting appetizers.
Always innovative and delicious cuisine. The menu always has 10-12 appetizers and 6-8 entrees.
We went to Gardenias for a romantic anniversary dinner. It was a simple, cozy neighborhood gem. The food was delicious -- every salad, soup, entrée, and dessert was tasty, fresh, and well prepared. The service was excellent.
We came here to celebrate my birthday, and the place was recommended by a friend. It had a comfortable local eatery feel. We split the scallops with corn and micro greens appetizer. Our waiter recommended we split instead of each getting an order. He was right, the size was ample, and it was delicious. We both ordered the duck leg with a delicate creamy wine sauce, potatoes and shallots. Unusual and very delicious. For dessert, I had a small raspberry, chocolate mousse with a cookie. Mark selected an citrus cake which he found delicious. The waiter was accommodating for our selection of wines, and brought us several samples. They did not have a Chardonnay available by the glass, so I selected a white vintners blend. Again, they did not have Merlot by the glass, so Mark selected a red blend which he enjoyed.
The place was a bit cold as they left the doors open for ventilation because of COVID restrictions. This may change in the future. We both brought coats and were fine. Note the menus were different from what was on the website.
We both felt this was our best meal in San Francisco. Prices were reasonable. For example, the duck legs were $28. Our wines were $14 each, a bit on the high side.
Excellent meal start to finish! All dishes very inventive with vibrant flavors. Prices very reasonable.
Really enjoyable meal!
First time at gardenias. Very happy with our experience. Will definitely be back.
Appetizers, entries, dessert and service were excellent. Would definitely return soon. Chqrming restaurant.
Small menu of interesting choices, artfully presented, professional service. Would definitely return.
Lovely little restaurant with great food. Intimate setting, & food presentation & flavors were great.
Great neighborhood find. The ambience, perfect lighting, wonderful wine by the glass & bottle selections, great service and delicious food. I love a menu that offers thoughtful options without being overwhelming. My only complaint is I wished they had a full bar but at least options on Fillmore to have a cocktail before dining.
Excellent service and the food was outstanding. Wine list was incredible, we were beyond happy to spend our anniversary here and hope to be back soon.
This was my first time back since quarantine. The food was just as delicious as I remember and the backyard patio was perfect and felt intimate. Like dinning at a friends house. You can’t go wrong with any item on this menu
I can't wait to come back. Food was very yummy!! Service and ambience was very nice.
Loved it and will
Be back. Really delicious and cozy neighborhood spot. Service was great.
One of my favorite restaurants in SF! I am a good/excellent cook, and do not find many restaurants where I am delighted with how the dishes taste. Gardenias has a wonderful menu, the dishes are beautifully prepared, and are absolutely delectable!!! I have had several of their tarts for dessert which have all been superb!! Last night the brown butter strawberry tart had a crisp buttery crust and the baked strawberry filling was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of sweet....and whipped cream on the side ( Much like baked goods found in France/Europe). The wait staff is experienced and very good, and the seating is cozy and lovely. We had the Gnocci and Black Cod... both superb.
Awesome neighborhood restaurant. Love the cozy ambience and delicious food. Great dessert too.
Hands down this place is a 10/10. Excellent food and service. I highly recommend! We will return again and again and again!
Excellent food and ambience on the small patio out back.
Some of the best food I’ve had in awhile.
Gardenia is efficient and consistent. After a long Covid-hiatus, the kitchen was still em pointe and service prompt but not hovering. The menu is focused and the wine list fairly priced and with variety, but not overwhelming
We had a lovely dinner. Split the leek appetizer. Light and very nice. My friend raved about the cod and I had the spring vegetable tagine. Portions are a little small.
Delicious, seasonal food with friendly staff and a chic but relaxed ambiance! I look forward to returning!
Freezing cold inside, leaving doors and windows open due to Covid, wear layers
Asparagus and Scallop apps were very good. Mains of short rib and cod both lacked some flavor. Dessert was Basque cheesecake, and strawberry tart. Both tasty but not show stoppers. Nice affordable wine list, nice little outside dining area.
Wonderful service and fantastic food in a neighborhood setting. Perfecto!
Very cute place with great service and tasty food!
Such a great neighborhood place!
Great setting, delicious food, large wine selection, and a helpful staff to actually help you pick something from that selection you'll enjoy.
We have eaten here many times before and liked it very much.
Unfortunately, it was not a great food experience. We shared a gnocchi course to start. It was rich and quite good. A good start
Entrees were duck leg and the black cod. Both dishes were substandard. The duck was a bit cold and the sides were a disaster- the vegetables were a literal pile of mush, totally inedible and the root vegetable gratin tasted old and dry. Similar problems with the cod. Underwhelming fish, mildly warm and poorly prepared sides
Cheesecake was also only OK
It was a let down. Hope they get their feet back under themselves- but based on this, I don’t have a reason to go back
The location is lovely, service is fantastic. We ordered 3 apps, 1 of which I really like. Ordered 1 entree, vegetable tagine, which was outstanding. Loved our waiter.
What an incredible dinner! Everything was fantastic: the starters, the entrees, the dessert, the wine, the tea, the ambiance! Will come back for sure. Top notch!
The food is always inventive and superb. A true foodie neighborhood gem! Nice wine list, and the wait staff is always willing to provide sample tastes of anything by the glass.
Dad is 90 and we hadn’t seen him for over a year
