From the owners of Woodward's Garden, we welcome you to Gardenias - a new neighborhood spot in the best sense of the word. Locally sourced and seasonally influenced, our menu pays respect to the unique bounty of Northern California.
We offer both small and large plates and a thoughtful beverage list that includes wine and beer on tap and in bottles.
Guests are welcome to drop in for a drink and a quick bite — there is bar seating, a patio, and sidewalk seating that we do not reserve and encourage last minute, walk-ins! 1 block from the Kabucki Sundance Cinemas.
Fabulous waitstaff, taste of some dishes eas amazing, others only so so. But everything prepared beautifully and with great care. Lovely evening.
Food was great!
The cheese plate we ordered was $16 for two very small portions of two cheeses. One of the cheeses was absolutely terrible, to a point that we should it had gone bad. We LOVE all cheese, so this was quite surprising. We told the waitress and she didn't seem to know how to handle it. She said, "Well, I can't take it back!" And then we said, "Well, it's not edible, so please figure something out. " She finally brought just more of the other cheese and then told us not to tell anyone (what?!? - strange).
The scallop appetizer didn't taste fresh. The bone-in short-ribs were good, but nothing outstanding. The strawberry tart dessert was very good. We ordered those 4 dishes with no beverages and the check cam to about $100. Not worth it, won't be back. Disappointed; not sure where the good reviews are coming from.
We are regulars. It is always good. I know that it will be a great dinner and the desert and wine is always great too.
The table next to us is a corner table, hard for server to reach. Have to squeeze through our chair to serve the table. A little cramped
Our server was wonderful as well as the wine! If you have never been give them a try you will not be disappointed. Fresh quality ingredients.
We had a great dinner. I ordered the Risotto and it was amazing!
Food was delicious - we shared the leeks appetizer. She had risotto and I had short ribs which were spectacular. Very generous glasses of wine. My only complaint is we were running late and I tried to call and the phone didn’t work. But other than that Gardenias has finally hit its stride and is as good as any other restaurant around.
We enjoyed it a lot. However, the scallops - a bit indistinct, we asked for no raw onions or green onions ... and they came with lots of green onions atop, quite saucy ... meh. Risotto quite good. Steak very good. Beet salad - beets tasteless, otherwise good. Creme brulee - very good! Service was good when we had his attention, but perhaps he had too many tables ... not quite as attentive as preferred.
It was a great combination of food atmosphere and intimate space that you could have a conversation with friends. Loved it! I will definitely be coming back !
Very tasty, well-presented and warm, attentive but not too-attentive service. Good for both meat eaters and vegetarians.
Second time intro years at gardenias - very flavorful and harmonic dishes. Great place from food to people
This is pretty general, but it's been quite some time since I had such mediocre food for that amount of money...
A delightful venue for food thoughtfully prepared. The cheeses were very distinctive. All of the entree offerings were well done and proportioned properly. Interesting wine selection.
Delicious food, lovely environment, excellent service — everything was ideal for a special dinner in a personal setting. Thank you! Eager to return soon
Very cute and cozy restart! Highly recommend for a small party
The food was very good. Fresh, fruity and very well presented. The service was phenomenal. We were late due to traffic. The restaurant accommodated us and got us out in time for our show.
They are understaffed in kitchen tonight. Long long wait for hot food. Dessert came quickly.
Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and she gave us very thoughtful responses to questions. I felt like she genuinely wanted us to enjoy ourselves. In fact, everyone was very welcoming. Makes me want to make Gardenias a regular hangout.
Food and Service was good. We did feel a little rushed, but it was Valentines day
Avoid when there is a pre-fixe menu! With it being Valentine's Day, there was a 4 course pre-fixe menu, which sounded great on their website. However, within 5 minutes of sitting down, we got our first course, followed swiftly by the second course. Even when our main entree came out we tried to eat slowly in order to enjoy dinner and we kept being rushed and asked if we were finished. You would think they would've tried to space out the 4 courses over a normal length of time, however, the entire 4 course meal took 45 minutes from sit down to paying for the bill. I would expect if you spent $85/person for a pre-fixe Valentine's Day menu they would not be rushing you but I was incorrect. They were clearly trying to hustle people in and out in order to capitalize on one of their biggest days of the year.
While the ambiance was good and the food was average, I will not be dining here again or recommending Gardenias to a friend.
Best meal in SF.
Food was pretty good but wildly overpriced. $5 for bread and butter? $26 for THREE raviolis? Our server was very nice, but I probably won't return.
Food was great! Ambiance great! Will definitely be back.
I had a lovely dinner
Gardenias is a lovely spot. The ambiance is magical, service good, and the food delicious.
A great neighborhood pick. Delicious food in a relaxed but distinguished environment.
Loved it! Great service, fabulous fresh food and a delightful ambience. Will definitely be back.
Nice ambience for a special occasion such as I was celebrating. Simple, chic, atmosphere. Wait staff was attentive. Food was pricey but very good quality.
my husband and i walked by this place so often so finally last night i decided to take my hubbie there for his birthday. it turned out the food was so horrible. we ordered scallops for appetizer and scallops were so thin and overcooked. the quality of scallops were cheap, not the best quality. when our enteees arrived. my fish was so dry and overcooked. my hubbie ordered short ribs and the meat was mostly fat. there wasn't much of meat there. and the bowl was filled with lard. i did ask for a replacement of my dish to ricotta ravioli. it was a big mistake. the ravioli was under cooked. pasta was raw and chewy. i was very disappointed with the quality of food. i wouldn't recommend this place and for the price. it was expensive for poor quality of food. we appreciate hood food. we are foodies but this restaurant is a big no-no.
i decided to book at l'ardoise this coming saturday to make up for the bad experience we had at this restaurant. i look forward to dining at l'ardoise with my hubbie.
Fantastic spot with amazing food. The menu changes regularly, but I've never had anything here that I didn't love.
Every dish my friend and I shared was cooked to perfection with wonderful flavors. Definitely going back.
Probably best ricotta ravioli I've had. More like pillows, with grilled squash pieces rolled in parmesan, and crunchy breadcrumbs.
Great food, romantic ambiance, great and helpful staff!
We loved Dana and Margie's previous restaurant Woodward's Garden and were so happy when they opened Gardenias. The same amazing dedication to a wonderful dining experience can be found here. This is our go-to special event restaurant and are never disappointed.
This place is so romantic! Me and my homegirl came here for NYE dinner. They had same day reservations and once we showed up I was shocked. It was so cute to be open on NYE. I believe we split the filet and the a bottle of rosé and it was so nice. Very pretty, not too busy perfect vibe of what we see look for on NYE.
A creative flair with vegetables in every dish, great service, and smiles all around. Thanks for a consistently wonderful dining experience.
It was a cold dark night and this was a nice warm friendly place. It was perfect for a delicious meal with generous pours before a show at the Fillmore.
This place was great. The sauces for the brown butter gnocci, short rib and fish were perfect.
Always wonderful food and interesting choices, since we started eating at their original, location Woodward’s Gardens many years ago. It is perfect for a premovie dinner or after or for any reason.
