With its exposed brick walls and dark wood furnishings, the ultra-inviting Garage Restaurant and Café serves modern American fare with soul. Appetizer options include the exotic mushroom beggar's purse, filo dough stuffed with mushrooms and cheese, as well as the apricot and ginger glazed flame-grilled jumbo shrimp with a mango avocado salsa. House specialties, like the Roquefort-topped filet mignon, the lobster ravioli and the garlic-crusted chicken with mashed potatoes, deliciously demonstrate Garage Restaurant and Café's commitment to quality.
Check out Garage Restaurant and Café on Sundays, when live jazz bands play while a decadent brunch is served. The French vanilla soaked French toast, surf and turf egg benedicts and the farmer's market omelet are reason enough to head to Garage.
Great little place. Best time is brunch with unlimited cocktails! Better looking on the inside than the outside!
Went for brunch excited that their menu includes an entire section of eggs bendict. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The hollandaise was an odd, thin and tasteless neon colored glaze, the crab and lobster cakes were more bread than anything and the mimosas were intolerable sweet. Major disappointment. Service was prompt and friendly and the jazz band was a welcomed distraction.
We went to the Garage on a MONDAY night and everything was just as great as the last time we were there. It felt like a Thursday or Friday. The food the service, oh and by the way, Kudos to Alexandria, our server thank you. The live jazz and the wine selection just as good as the first time we visited. We plan on going back in 2016 many times over.
I heard a rumor that this restaurant is to be sold soon. If true, too bad...
I would not recommend as this restaurant is closing. We were there Sat Dec 11 and they told us they were closing in 3 weeks. Dinner came out right after appetizer, not right. Dinner was not hot and not particularly good. We had to keep selecting different wines as they aren't restocking. Decor was quite nice. Probably was better when everyone wasn't about to lose their jobs. Merry Christmas.
My party and I were gathering for a holiday brunch/gift exchange, and we settled on Garage to satisfy each participant's requirements. The bottomless mimosas were delicious and rapidly replenished, the jazz band was entertaining and lively, and we had adequate space to talk and pass (small, unwrapped) presents. Our festivities were enhanced by the tasteful, seasonally appropriate decor, which included an upside-down tree suspended from the ceiling. The food was decent, nothing to write home about, but it was served promptly and with no hassles -- in fact, much kudos goes to our waitstaff for their pleasant and prompt performance. Overall, I'd recommend Garage as a destination for a fun and accessible dining experience.
The food was absolutely amazing.
Food was typical brunch food. Large menu. Price a great - $16.95 for an entree and drink for brunch. The band was good too.
The staff, food, atmosphere and music was great!!!
Food and ambiance were both excellent! I would return to this restaurant, for sure.
Always a winner for me. Been there several times for weekend brunch and for evening dinner, jazz, wine. Performers always do a very good job with good mix of music.
Service was great, drinks were great, food was not great. How does one mess up toast?
Great atmosphere, good food & cocktails. A definite must for a visit to Manhattan.
Would be great if the owner wasn't so miserable. I asked him a question and he was ridiculously rude to me. I'm not surprised the place is closing next month.
We lucked up on finding this restaurant at the last minute and late night. We really enjoyed the food and the jazz band Hot House. Then we came back the next day for Saturday brunch. Again really great food and drinks.
Been here 4 times now and never let me down, never been into Jazz but love it at the Garage. Came with three friends from England a part of a tour of NYC and they absolutely loved it. Not cheap but well worth it. If you though don't like loud live music with your food don't go. No so loud that you could not talk
We was recommended this restaurant from a friend and I ca see why! The food was amazing and the staff were lovely, especially our waitress. Really nice, cosy atmosphere and brilliant for jazz lovers!
The place was basically empty but "YOU CANNOT be seated until all your party is here" and I know why. They want people to wait @ the bar and buy drinks. It's a shame that they don't spend as much time on making their food tastier as they do on their operational techniques. But we loooved the music, especially Eyal Vilar's Big Band.
The Jazz was great and the food was also pretty good. Wide selection and well presented
The service however was very poor. Staff were rude and really lacked customer service- it's a shame as everything else was great
Brunch at Garage was AMAZING! The food was delicious and the mimosas were divine!
We had a great experience at this restaurant. We went during the Saturday morning jazz brunch and had a wonderful time. Our server was very attentive and on point. We got the brunch for $16.95 and then added the $6 unlimited one hour of drinks. It was great to sit there and enjoy the music and the food. Would definately go again.
Our favorite go to spot in NYC (actually anywhere) for a fabulous evening out. Not only is the food amazing - every dish perfectly prepared... the tables are not crowded together, you sit with some privacy, and listen to amazing top NYC jazz artists. and the end price can't be beat.
We love The Garage and look forward to continuing to bring our family friends and business associates here for authentic NY experience and unforgettable food and music.
I can't say the food is remarkable but our brunch was decent & the bottomless Mimosa & Bloody Mary option is a steal. Add some jazz & a really friendly server who was on top of the refills - it's a perfectly pleasant place to start your Sunday.
Great place for listening to some jazz and having dinner/drinks. Would recommend!!
We went here for brunch, its kickin jazz and good food made for an enjoyable day.
Great music .food was excellent. Would go again. Got recommended by book at hotel.
The blood orange martini was the best. At 5pm I thought it was odd that they ran out of brussel sprouts. Brunch had just ended.
The food is very pricey for what it is and it's not that good. The place and decor and vibe is nice and the live jazz was on point, I feel like they factor that into the price of the food. So the four stars is for the overall exp and music and feel, because if you're mainly going to have a good culinary experience this should not be considered, especially when you're paying 30 bucks for pasta that you can get better just about anywhere else.
Overall good experience. One critique would be to not put the hostess stand out on the sidewalk unless she can access the reservation system on a laptop or tablet from there. The sign said to wait out next to the sidewalk seating for the hostess to come seat you. Problem is that the hostess' computer for reservations is a good 25-30ft into the restaraunt so she rarely got a chance to come check on people waiting where they were supposed to. Waited outside for 10-15min and finally came in to wait by the computer and got seated pretty quickly.
Always Love The Garage. Our server tonight was outstanding
My wife and I have been here many times when visiting NYC. This time we had our 11 year old daughter with us and she loved it as well. They had a full orchestra jazz band playing that night, and we had great seats on the balcony level overlooking the band. We all had a great time, as expected.
The food was outstanding, and the service was impeccable. Our waiter came often enough to keep everyone happy, but without lingering and getting weird. They even brought my daughters soda in a wine glass to make her feel fancy. As always, the food, music and service was the best. You must try this place if you're in or around the Village.
Every time I have a little bit to spend and someone to treat, I enjoy going to this retaurant. It was so much fun! I loved the live band and the benedict over salmon. I think, though, what keeps me coming back is the jazz and the cocktails! My date and I had so much fun at brunch.
First timer, are outside so we didn't hear any of the jazz music. Tables are tiny with plastic chairs so not much room. Good food and good people watching.
Great music and atmosphere. Food was nice but not great, service was lovely.
Live music was nice but very much on the loud side. We were sat in the upper eating area and it was hard to have a conversation. The food was great and our waitress was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Would recommend!
Creepy manager hit on my girlfriend. It was inappropriate and off putting.
When I first arrived early for my reservation, I couldn't find anyone to even give my name to - several servers seemed to notice me waiting, but no one acknowledged me or said anything like a simple "the host will be right with you". Finally, as last of our party was arriving (nearly 10 minutes later), she walked up and we were seated.
We sat outside for brunch, placed our orders and got our mimosas right away. And then waited... and waited... got another round of drinks delivered, and waited... and waited... Finally our server stopped by to check on us and one of my friends asked about our food. His dismayed response "you haven't eaten yet?!" Um... no... shouldn't you have noticed that somehow before now? Our window of unlimited drinks was over before our food was even served - though he was nice enough to give us one more round with our food in the initial price.
Met 3 friends for brunch and sat outside, so can't comment too much on the inside ambience (looked a tad dark though). Waitress wasn't particularly warm and friendly, but served us quickly and efficiently. Base price for everything was 16.75 plus 6 for 1 hr of mimosas/bloody marys - was a good deal but nothing hugely to write home about. I would go here again if I was in the neighborhood with friends and the weather permitted sitting outside.
We went to the Garage for our son's college graduation dinner. We liked the design and decoration of the restaurant. The live jazz music was good, but even our waitress couldn't hear properly in there to get our order right. We placed our orders, only to be told later that an entree ordered by our party was not available- this should have been know up front and so led to a delay. And the food when received was cold and not outstanding. We had to send some back for reheat. I guess this sounds like we were problem customers but far from it. We've had much better elsewhere for MUCH less.
