For 30 years, Gar Woods Grill & Pier has been North Lake Tahoe's premier waterfront dining destination. Their floor-to-ceiling windows, large deck and balconies provide breath-taking views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierras. Gar Woods Grill & Pier is an upscale casual restaurant that accommodates groups of 160 just as easily as groups of two. The Chef has created a menu highlighting California cuisine, hand cut steaks and fresh Pacific seafood, served in a fun-in-the-sun atmosphere. The wine list is a collection of California's best-known vintners featuring more than a dozen wines by the glass. Enjoy Tahoe's warm summer days sitting on our waterfront deck while sipping on Gar Woods' world famous Wet Woody. With over two million sold you'll be in good company, but arrive early to get a seat. When visiting during the ski season thaw out in front of the three story tall river rock fireplace with a Warm Woody or a Heavenly bottom. Lake Tahoe sunsets are their specialty.

Can't beat the view of Lake Tahoe from the deck, food is great, somewhat pricy, specials were wonderful, prime rib excellent....even the tenderloin bacon western hamburger was way above average, and large.
Noise level can be intense, we ate inside at 5:00 PM, and it wasn't too bad. Will certainly return when up and around North Shore.
It was a birthday, and the comp. chocolate sundae was a nice touch.

As many other reviews have mentioned, their tableware always appears dirty, silverware and glassware. I refused to use the water glass and the fork was dirty. The management really needs to take these comments seriously and improve their cleanliness.

Alexis was the BEST waitress we have had in a long time!!! We were very lucky to get a table outside and have a spectacular view of Lake Tahoe, but the service was superior to the view. It was a extremely busy day and Alexis was super friendly, super responsive, super calm, and super helpful.

It was Easter Sunday so the restaurant was very busy and the noise level was a bit high due to the numbers. The food was excellent as was the service and I can recommend without reservation.

Great Easter Brunch - only reason for the 4 stars was the lack of vegan or glutten free items for our daughter. Other then that, the rest of the table had a great meal!

Easter brunch buffet. Food was ok but not amazing. I tied a slice of pumpkin pie. It was frozen, like there was a crystalized substance on top i thought maybe fancy sugar. Nope it was ice. I sent it back and told them. They didnt care and left remainder of frozen pumpkin pie on the buffet.

High priced average food. Everything was seasoned in the same way with red and green pepper. Very expensive price for wine by the glass and the drinks were not very exciting or modern. Not impressed.

We went for my son's 20th birthday. The views are beautiful. We had a spacious table and very good food. It was very noisy and hard to hear a table conversation. The food and drinks were very expensive.

The manager, Chris, was so accommodating for my parents 50th anniversary. He let us bring some decorations and set the table beautifully for us. The food was excellent, as well as the service! Beautiful setting, as well. Thank you!

We went to Gar Woods for a winter week night dinner. We both ordered the Shrimp & Lobster Bisque soup which we both agreed was very good.
Dinner included the Scallops and risotto and the King Salmon. The King salmon was excellent, cooked just through and the toasted cauliflower & Asiago / chimichurri / pickled sweet onion were done how one would hope.
The Scallops and risotto were lacking in quality. The Scallops were more gritty with 'sand' than one would welcome, and the risotto was just too gummy!
We have really liked Gar Woods for their Sunday Brunch, which have not been to for too long.
We have also had better dinners their in the past!

I’ve eaten at GarWood’s many times ever since they opened, mostly for lunch. The food is always delicious! This time, I had the crab Chile relleno and my husband had the French dip, and of course, a pitcher of Wet Woodys!

It took us an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. Tons of excuses and no empathy or compensation. My wife ordered white wine to have with her Sea Bass and it took so long for the food to come out that her wine was warm. This was a night out for my wife's birthday and the service at Garwoods ruined it.

The food and ambiance was good as always. Our waiter was wonderful. However I was very disappointed with the management who refused to seat us at window table because we were a party of 7 and they have a policy against pushing tables together. What?! The restaurant was empty and it was a Monday night and we were forced to sit at subpar location towards back of restaurant while an entire line of window seats sat empty . This made no sense and represented extremely poor service in my opinion.

Everything about our evening was excellent! The picturesque setting on the lake, set the evening off well along with our attentive waiter. Most of us had the swordfish special which we would all highly recommend along with their tasty house salad. Good wine selection too.

This place pretends to be a "higher" value restaurant by having pretty steep prices, but it definitely fails to deliver.

Wine get's served in very thick glasses which ruins the experience, there's no decent alternative to alcoholic beverages; a page of cocktails, a page of wines, but only non alcoholic beverages are water or sodas.
My wife's fish was totally overcooked ruining the taste, my very expensive lamb rack was tasteless.

Very disappointed by this experience

Let me first say that this place is vey pretensions. Came here on New Year's Eve. And it was so loud I think there was a live dj. All we heard all night was bass and people screaming. We couldn't even hear each other talk. Ok now I know some people might like that because it's New Years and there drinking so I sorta understand, but that is not what was terrible about this place. I just wanted to get that out there if you are looking for a nice romantic intimate dinner with your significant other. GO FAR AWAY FROM HERE.

The door staff here is TERRIBLE. rude as can be. Just a bunch of uptight trust fund girls in there 20s. Our waitress luckily was nice. Don't remember her name but she had curly blonde hair and had personality.

The 2 person table we sat at was the worst. The base was large so yay couldn't push your chair in close to the table you had to lean the whole night in either eating or practically scream to talk to your partner over the music. The chairs, omg the chairs were so rickity we both thought at any movement they would break. They moved so far back and fourth. So dinner was very uncomfortable.

So we get the food and I had the lobster and fillet I asked for medium with a light pink in the middle of my steak. It was rare and it was wrapped in bacon which the bacon was very stringy and chewy. The steak was bland. The mashed potatoes were suppose to be garlic but were also bland. The lobster had no flavor and dipping it in butter if that's what they call it. The butter just tasted like oil it real butter. I think they used margarine. I know most of your clientele is rich white people but season something for gods sake. The shrimp in her dish was over cooked. the food sucked. The best part of the meal was the snickers cheesecake. That actually was very good. The crust was incredible and cheese cake was creamy and delicious.

I seriously wish I would have went to Denny's Hahaha I would have gotten better food and staff honestly.

Came here for a New Year's Eve dinner. The hostess took our name and then proceeded to ignore us. She did this for several other parties who had arrived. It was only until we complained another hostess arrived and brought order to the hostess desk.

Our waitress was fantastic. Was quick and efficient despite the numerous other tables she had to deal with that. She was clearly stressed but maintained a smile and exuded a warm personality.

Toward the end of the evening as it got closer to midnight, the hostess came around and threw hats onto our table without any warning. Didn't even acknowledge that we were eating and throwing items on a table abruptly was rude. She came around a second time and this time handed out New Year's favors to other tables, but for some reason ignored ours. Another hostess came around a little later and did the exact same. Not sure if done absentmindedly or if they were purposely ignoring us. At that point, we chose to abandon our meal and spend our evening elsewhere. Definitely not a place I would recommend due to poor treatment.
