About Gar Woods Grill and Pier Restaurant

For nearly 30 years, Gar Woods Grill & Pier has been North Lake Tahoe's premier waterfront dining destination. Their floor-to-ceiling windows, large deck and balconies provide breath-taking views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierras. Gar Woods Grill & Pier is an upscale casual restaurant that accommodates groups of 160 just as easily as groups of two. The Chef has created a menu highlighting California cuisine, hand cut steaks and fresh Pacific seafood, served in a fun-in-the-sun atmosphere. The wine list is a collection of California's best-known vintners featuring more than a dozen wines by the glass. Enjoy Tahoe's warm summer days sitting on our waterfront deck while sipping on Gar Woods' world famous Wet Woody. With over two million sold you'll be in good company, but arrive early to get a seat. When visiting during the ski season thaw out in front of the three story tall river rock fireplace with a Warm Woody or a Heavenly bottom. Lake Tahoe sunsets are their specialty.

Had a family Dinner for 8, including two small children. We were able to get reservations with fairly short notice, location was fantastic for first time Tahoe visitors in our group. Got great Pre- Dinner sunset photos on their pier! Fantastic food, very large portions- split one plate and was glad we did. Pricey kids menu, ($12 PBJ?!?) but other than that it was all delicious food, fantastic fish and seafood options, with good service. Highly recommend this spot!!! We have had casual summer lunches and drinks on the deck and that was just as awesome. More formal and upgraded menu inside.

Service was unprofessional and food was very overpriced. One of the dishes; roasted chicken, was not as described on the menu and the steak was undercooked and not very tender. One of the glasses of wine was served in a dirty glass and when we told the waiter, he just poured it into another glass

We had an excellent Thanksgiving dinner at Gar Woods last Thursday even though there were an amazing number of customers! The service was first class and we never felt rushed or underserved.

My wife and I chose to enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner at Gar Woods. We elected to sit outside and enjoy the most spectacular view of Lake Tahoe. Service was very attentive and punctual. Little or no wait to be seated. We enjoyed a very deliciouis price fix turkey dinner, compete with all the fixings. Good value for price. I highly recommend have a dinner there and enjoying the atmosphere.

Just about the worth food we ever had. We ordered the special of the day which was a cioppino. It was obviously made of left over from a previous function that might have had days before.

I usually try and eat at Gar Woods at least once when I'm at Lake Tahoe. The service is excellent and so is the food. We had crab cakes that were some of the best I've eaten; lobster and crab bisque, that had plenty of chunks of both and was deliciously creamy and tasty; and I had white fish stuffed with crab and lobster that was delicious. We shared a generous hot fudge sundae, before waddling out of the restaurant.

Garwoods is not what it used to be! Haven't been there for 5 years and was looking forward to returning! Yuck!!!!!
Food was horrible, totally over-priced, not fresh at all! Lots of better choices in Lake Tahoe! Try one of them!

Besides the extended wait for the table (and being told it was being set up until 15 minutes later being told the guests were still at the table) everything was wonderful. We would have appreciated some acknowledgment for the error and long wait (were seated at 7:50 for a 7:15 reservation). Thanks for a nice meal.

Having experienced several very good meals in the past, I was really surprised by the poor quality of our meals last Friday. We were there for my wife’s birthday and looking forward to a great meal. We were promptly seated to a great lake view table (it was early, and the dining room was nearly empty) and at the waiter’s recommendation I had the daily seafood special. It was awful! It was supposed to be a crusted sea bass with a spicy, pineapple based salsa on top. The food came pretty quickly, yet my dinner had tell-tale signs of too much time under a heat lamp. The “crust” had absorbed too much juice from the salsa and then had been baked by the heat lamp into an awful mess. The salsa, on the other hand had been cooked and dried out. It was almost as if I received an extra serving from the night before and they simply reheated it for me. Definitely not up to Gar Woods usual standard. If this had been my first time there, I wouldn’t come back to the restaurant and just limit future visits to the bar for the spectacular views of the lake. Not sure why the quality was so poor last Friday, but I hope it was an aberration.

Beautiful lakefront location for lunch. Quick & attentive service, even though crowded. Ahi poke was delicious, although expensive. Filet mignon was very tasty. A little annoying that they charge $5 for a split plate on the filet after our lunch bill totaled $133.

We go to North Lake Tahoe about once every 2 to 3 months and include Gar Woods as our first and last meal venue every time. We enjoy the ambiance, cocktail menu, overall service and definitely the view! The crafted cocktails are quite good, and we really appreciate the bar menu of food offerings. The wait staff tends to be seasonal, but never lacks in quality or friendliness (proprs to management.) Overall, our favorite restaurant in North Lake Tahoe.

Three of us went for dinner and, along with the food, you can't beat the gorgeous view of Lake Tahoe. We had a picture perfect table at a window. We had a terrific, friendly, warm, knowledgable server who took great care of us, anticipating our every need throughout the evening. We had steak and shrimp, and two filet mignons and they were done exactly as we wanted. We had a drink prior to dinner and wine with dinner, skipped the dessert even though we were tempted.

It's a great place to eat, located between Tahoe City and King's Beach. Pricey and well worth it! We've been there many times and will go many more.

Their speciality cocktail, “Wet Willy”, was really good.

Food was good. The quality was consistent. The service was spotty. I dine at Gar Woods at least once a year. In past dining, our waiter/waitress was attentive. Last Saturday, Gar Woods was so busy that their waiter and waitress was so busy they didn’t notice their diners’ wine glass was running low wine. I have to refill my wine glass and my wife wine glass. I notice other diners from other table were doing the same.

Came out Gar Woods for a late Saturday lunch with family. Quality of the food is always great, including the presentation of the meals; and yes you must try a wet woody if you come out here (you won’t be disappointed). Highly recommended...just make sure to make reservations ahead of time.

Me, my fiancée and future mother in law came up for the weekend and I picked Gar Woods knowing that if we got a seat by the water, it’d justify the very expensive prices. I appreciate that the server paid attention to the note I put on OpenTable and seated us at an outside table along the water. We had the crab cake tasty but for the price I expected at least three! I had the ribeye and shrimp (shrimp cooked too well) and they both had a the salmon salad. And we split a mud pie!

Enjoyable evening - now Ramen noodles for a while... ;)
