Food was ok, but pretty expensive for the mediocre ingredients. We had the filet and scampi and scallops. Filet tasted like sirloin cut into a circle. Scallops were good though. Dessert was fried Oreos. They were kind of dry, don’t recommend those.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner
Somewhat overprice, nice service, great view.
Ribeye tasted like it was aged w a disinfectant. Very unfortunate.
Filet, scampi was very good.
Excellent Thanksgiving feast and Wet Woodys
This place provided decent food as well as a good that was a good combination and creative. However the quality of the food was mediocre and could have been better for it's price.
Went to Gar Woods to celebrate my wife's birthday. View was spectacular, table was perfect, service was very good. However, I was shocked at the final bill. We each had one cocktail, plus I had a beer with dinner. We had NO wine. I had a Cesar Salad and a filet mignon with a lobster tail. My wife had no starter and a simple fish disk. The final bill including tip came to over $220. Unbelievable.
I would recommend Gar Woods to anyone for whom price is no object, who is looking for a fine meal in a restaurant with a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe ... but if you're looking for a reasonable price this is not the place for you.
Good waiter. Good friends. Good drinks. Great time
Great location on the water; food and beverages were delicious. Highly recommend!
We stopped here for lunch before departing the Tahoe area and were very satisfied with the food and the service, a good friend had recommended it and we were very glad that we took her advice. My preference for background music would have been for something a little less energetic but the overall ambience was good.
Excellent food, Excellent Service, Excellent location - Could not of asked for more!
Great service, food and view. Our waiter Martin was the best!
Wonderful location on the north west shore of Lake Tahoe!
Had a yummy Cobb salad and we both had maitais! I preferred the 1944. Great cheerful service lakeside. Just lovely and consistently good food and service. Cheerful waitstaff is such a plus and you really don’t see that often. My sister works here too! Our server said and all my friends! Well they are happy and it shows so hooray for good management.
Thanks we enjoyed it and will be back!
This place has a beautiful view of the lake & peer. You can take a nice stroll on the pier before or after diner. There is an easy path from the restaurant deck to pier. The staff is friendly. I had the crab cakes plus lobster & shrimp bisque. The flavor was food but no shrimp or lobster pieces in bisque.
Everyone in our party of 11 was super impressed with the great staff, delicious food, cocktails, wine list, and incredible beauty of the restaurant. We enjoyed a memorable lunch.
My husband and I were visiting Lake Tahoe for our anniversary in October and wanted to go out for a nice dinner with a view... we were sorely disappointed.
Ambiance - from the outside, it looked very promising. It’s right on the lake! Once inside, you realize that the outdoor dock mostly restricts any view on the inside. You can still see the lake but I’d hardly describe it as unobstructed.
Service - the host was very friendly and our waitress was very sweet and helpful. No issues with service.
Food - here’s where it gets very very bad... they start off by providing you with hard breadsticks and a cup of soft unsalted butter. It was free... can’t complain that much...but the breadsticks were crack your tooth hard and over salted. We started off ordering French onion soup and lobster bisque. The French onion soup wasn’t terrible but it had a strange spiced flavor that I’ve never experienced with French onion soup. My husbands lobster bisque was somewhat sour and I couldn’t eat more than one bite. Still we pressed on... I ordered the filet mignon and asked for the peppercorn demi on the side. I asked for it to be cooked medium... it came out RAW on the inside. So bad that even the waitress was shocked when I showed it to her. Additionally, it was advertised as “wrapped in bacon”... it was wrapped in something... but calling it bacon was a real stretch. It was black and slimy and inedible. Speaking of inedible... the peppercorn demi... straight up just tastes like rum. Terrible. My husband got the California Sea Bass and said it was equally disappointing.
Now, I realize that my little scathing review is fairly meaningless in the wide array of (shockingly) positive reviews this restaurant has... but... if you’d like to avoid a massively upset stomach, nausea, high prices, obstructed views, and disappointing food... I suggest you go elsewhere.
Specifically... Jake’s on the Lake was half the cost and 50x better in flavor with beautiful views.
Classic Lakeside restaurant bar and Grill! The views are amazing interior is very cool warm and welcoming! The Caesar salad was a little lacking but everything else was fantastic! My wife and I share in the filet mignon cooked perfectly with beautiful asparagus and terrific mashed potatoes! Tiramisu with coconut was a smash it for the wife.
Great view of Lake Tahoe. Service excellent. We had not been there for three years. Found the prices had increased substantially. Example: Cosmo mixed drink, $12.50. Crab sandwich $31.00.
Great service, food and family friendly :-)
Lovely setting, lakeside dining with the bride of my youth
Four of us where out for a Birthday celebration, my prime rib was bloody and raw. There was very minimal seasoning , possibly none? The cut of meat was so bad I had trouble cutting the entire meal. For sure the poorest experience I’ve ever had!
Sooo good!
Garwood's is family tradition. My wedding reception was on the second floor 30 years ago...countless birthdays, mother's and father's days have been enjoyed there as well.
Food very salty. To noisy to talk . Not worth the money
Gar Woods Restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Our meals were well prepared & delicious, & the wait staff was very helpful. We are looking forward to our next meal there!
Lunch on vacation! Loved it all!
Grrreat fish and chips!
The view of Lake Tahoe was amazing, and the food and wine were delicious. We will definitely be going to Gar Woods Grill and Pier Restaurant again. It’s a gem.
I had been to Gar Woods for drinks and apps on the deck once before and I think this is a perfect place for that kind of outing. The view looking over Lake Tahoe is gorgeous. Unfortunately, dinner was less impressive. Despite having made reservations for a birthday dinner, my girlfriends and I were placed at a back table close to the kitchen door (and associated noise) and our table sat over some sort of a motor under the floor, which kept running on and off, on and off. It was distracting both from floor vibrations and noise. The food we ordered was acceptable, but nothing I would seek out. As just two examples of where the food fell short, the mushroom risotto didn't actually have that many mushrooms (and the earthy flavor I was hoping for!) and the beets in the beet salad were not fully cooked. For the prices, I had hoped for more value. I'll stick with the deck for drinks and a burger or other bar food.
Friends get together
Great view but the food needs an upgrade. The fish on the Teriyaki salmon salad was dry, processed with flavoring and not fresh. Good selection of wines
Alan made the engagement dinner for my son exceptional!!! Food was hot & apps & entree were spaced perfectly.
Always love going to Gar Woods when at Tahoe. Allan was our waiter, he was on spot with promptness, and explaining different dishes and wine selection. Until we meet again!
Rain, snow outside. Warm attentive and friendly staff. Got us seated early. Had the scallops and the cobb salad. Both very good. Prompt arrival of food. Very nice.
Around 6PM, this started filling up and the noise level grew quickly.
Always a good meal with a gorgeous view. The Prickley Pear drinks are a favorite of our group.
Had a great Birthday dinner at Gar Woods. Service was great, food was excellent!
Fantastic view, delicious food, very nice waitress.
Great time , beautiful setting
This is the ultimate tourist trap, good locale but overpriced, overhyped and overcrowded.
Ridiculously expensive, noisy, hurried and uncomfortable.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. They flawlessly accommodated our large party with amazing efficiency! We recommend without hesitation or qualification. ENJOY!
