For 36 years Gar Woods Grill and Pier has been the premier waterfront dining destination in North Lake Tahoe. Floor-to-ceiling windows, large deck and balconies provide breath-taking views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierras. Gar Woods Grill and Pier is an upscale casual restaurant that accommodates groups of 160 just as easily as groups of two. Our Chef has created a menu highlighting California cuisine, hand cut steaks and fresh Pacific seafood, served in a fun-in-the-sun atmosphere. The wine list is a collection of best-known California vintners featuring more than a dozen wines by the glass. Enjoy the waterfront deck while sipping on Gar Woods world famous Wet Woody®. It had been several years since we had dined at Gar Woods. We were looking forward to coming back. Our service was fantastic and you can’t beat the view. Definitely worth the drive to Tahoe from Auburn. I was a little disappointed in the food. It was good, but not as good as I expected or remember from previous trips. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t upset or anything, it just didn’t meet my high expectations. My family all enjoyed there meal and experience, so it just might be me. I do recommend the deviled eggs and the bisque, both were great. My crab melt sandwich was okay, just not great as I had expected. We will go back, it is still one of the best restaurants in North Tahoe.

We had a group of 10 for our 25th anniversary and was really looking forward to going because we had been for years. Unfortunately, we were next to an older bachelorette party of 25 that was so obnoxious and loud, that only made the already loud restaurant unbearable. My daughter and husband left before the meal even came. Half of our group enjoyed their food, half didn’t. My chicken was so dry it was inevitable, and for the price that’s not acceptable. We won’t be returning.

The food was good, but our waitress was indifferent and inattentive... especially for a $160 meal. She forgot to bring my salad before the meal and never came back to see if we needed anything else.
