Gar Woods Grill and Pier Restaurant
Meat was good by sea bass was terrible tasted like it had been frozen - way overpriced for the quality - we were seated in noisy small kids section even though my kids are 16
Always dependable! The clams I ordered were sand free and simply scrumptious. My friend ordered and enjoyed her tenderloin and blue cheese salad which was large enough for two and my other friend ordered the crab relleno with a spicy delicious sauce. The Irish coffees came with a rock candy swizzle, so pretty! Our server was Harrison who was being trained by Sarah on his first day. He did a wonderful job; you’d never guess he was new. A credit to his trainer.
Fantastic service, fantastic food, fantastic wine. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend, and will most definitely be coming back.
My favorite Lake Tahoe restaurant, never disappoints. Food and service is outstanding. I had the Ahi which was delicious, my husband had the pistachio crusted Halibut, yummy. Christian our server made sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend..
We are regulars and have always loved Gar Woods, it is our favourite local restaurant. The staff are great!
My wife and I had a great dinner at Garwood on her birthday. Service was outstanding.
Gar Woods never disappoints! Can be extremely crowded but it’s just one of those places that when you’re in town you gotta go. Also a menu that should be pleasing to all
Our server, Zacharia made everything even better by providing extraordinary service. The restaurant was obviously busy, but we felt well served by Zach who obviously loves what he does. We enjoyed Chicken and Salmon, that were perfectly cooked and delicious.
Great place to dine while in Tahoe. However, every time that I make a reservation we still end up waiting for our table from anywhere to 30 mins to 1 1/2 hours!
Server Justin was great as were all the other servers, bartenders and hosts. Food was great, tasty and plentiful. It was a gorgeous day and the view as spectacular. Definitely will return.
Great food, have been many times before, this time for NYE. Was a bit loud due to a DJ in the bar area. But the food was still amazing, though a bit pricy (to be expected for the area).
NYE so we wanted and were ready for it to be a party. You pay a bit more at Garwoods per dish but the Lake Front view, bar, ambiance and legendary Tahoe history make it worth it in my opinion. Our server Jayson was slammed and still awesome I’m sure would be 5 star on any normal night. Tatiana the hostess was Amazing and accommodating under complete chaos and pressure. Thanks Guys.
Rib eye was excellent - well seasoned and served hot. Cocanut shrimp on the ampetizer was delicious = going to order it as a dinner item at our next visit.
New Years celebration
The wife and I come here every year for our anniversary. This last visit overall was good but we didn’t get our drinks until we were literally done eating our dinner. Apparently the drinks were delivered to the Incorrect table.
We go to Gar Woods often and have always loved it. This time, in our party of four, three of the meals were as usual first rate; but the lobster ravioli that one of us had was way below par. Underdone and flavorless. We sent it back. They graciously took it off our bill - and we continue to put this restaurant at the top of our dining list for the Tahoe area.
I have been to Garwoods a lot over the years, best view there is and great patio. But the food has gone downhill. Service is also mediocre, some nice folks but... Asked for a simple pasta and butter for my daughter, they have pasta but "all the sauce is made together". Not much in the way of vegetarian options. Menu is kind of a strange mix of very old school and trying to be asian fusion on some dishes and it doesn't really work. The burger was amazing. The drinks were so so. Wine list is good and pretty good value but the cocktails are over priced, and the food is also. Would go there again in the summer for patio views but wouldn't go back to dine again...
Great location. It’s a busy place with a good view. We had reservations, but waited 20 minutes. The drinks are good and a little expensive. The resturant interior is dingy and dated. For the prices; I didn’t taste the value. A lot of frozen items. Frozen fish, crab, zucchini sticks. I would expect fresher food and ingredients for the prices. I would have preferred the fresh halibut with the fish and chips instead of the frozen fish. A child’s Mac n cheese bowl was 14.00. 4 adults and one child with one pitcher of woody’s (the signature drink $46.00) came to 171.00 tip not included. Our server was very pleasant and knew her product. Hope this gives someone an idea of what to expect. Not going back.
We were rushed from the moment we sat down. Our food came quickly but two meals weren’t cooked - two orders to sea bass were fairly raw. Out the door in less than 90 minutes. Not coming back for certain.
Great food, huge portions, very busy so a bit slow service but worth the wait!
Overpriced for the food. Steak was not done right and service took a bit too long. All fixable problems.
The view is the calling card, but the food won’t disappoint. Nor will the cocktails, friendly staff or comfortable tables. I personally find the lunch menu a bit thin on option, and some items, like the bbq quesadillas, downright bizarre. Stick to burgers and salads for lunch and you’ll be pleased.
Christmas dinner with a friend not family
I wanted prime rib - the plate wasn’t heated so the food warmth soon transferred and I dug right in but ended up eating cold roast beef / Manager offered to reserve but I asked if he’d heat the plate and they do not so I thanked him and enjoyed what’s served / potatoes had run out over plate for some reason - it was ok but I would not order it again.
My friend ordered the fillet mignon - way better in every way.
I love Garwoods - had hoped for guitar but it’s cool to respect folks wanting to be with family.
Thanks to all - overall good not great.
Heat dinner plates in Winter is my suggestion 🥰
Great Christmas meal. Thank you.
Christmas dinner was wonderful. Beautiful view, great service!
Great and festive Christmas Eve dinner
Spectacular dinner for a special family occasion. We sat upstairs which was very private and great for a large gathering.
Typical over priced Tahoe. Nothing really differentiating. Lamb chops were priced amazing, tasted good.
Our server was great ! A little loud but that’s expected at Gar Woods
Food was great as always 👍
Go for the experience not the food. Lobsters and scallops were over cooked. Waitress was very nice. Sexist drinks - 1970s.
Our favorite place in Tahoe!
Great service but food a little disappointing. I had Cobb salad for entree and it was served late. First time chicken over cooked, next one came when rest of party were finished eating. There were 9 of us.
Our server was great. The view is beautiful. The food is overpriced. Of the 6 adults eating, 4 of the meals were very good, and one was so salty(crab sando) it was only partially eaten. Should have sent it back but my son was uncomfortable doing so. For the price I would expect everyone to have a great culinary experience. I do realize that part of the blame falls on us for not sending it back, as I'm sure the problem would have been remedied.
The crab cakes are so delicious... not much breading and mostly crab!! The French onion soup is superb and comes out with bubbling cheese on top!
The view is what we came for- didn’t have a clue about the food. Garwoods has their own pier... it’s a great dinner and sunset spot. Would be really cool if one day or in the summer they incorporate a dog friendly pier dining experience.
We had a large party and the service was exceptional. The team had great attention to every detail
Great Thanksgiving dinner menu. Nice, lively atmosphere and good service.
I’m local and haven’t been in a few years. I forgot how mediocre the food is. Cocktails and location good, but again the food is nothing special.
Gar Woods has been a family favorite for several years. The food is always great and you can't beat the view!
The service sucks, everyone in the entire restaurant had bread sticks but us. Our server passed right by us to give the table beside us water numerous times and skipped us. The bar service was great though. My husband and I's food was completely cold, my daughter ordered off the traditional Thanksgiving menu and her food was hot.
