Gaonnuri's service has declined significantly. Last year, I had brought a friend here for her birthday and asked if they could do something special for dessert to acknowledge the special occasion. They recommended that I bring the cake and candles and that they would serve it after dinner. Perfect. So this year, for another friend's birthday, I wanted to do the same thing but when I called to confirm the reservation and that I would be bringing a cake, the person on the phone told me that I didn't have to do that as they had an in-house pastry chef and that they could do something special for dessert. When I arrived early to remind the server of this, he looked dumbfounded and said they don't have a pastry chef. WHAT?? But he said he would bring out a dessert, write happy birthday and light a candle. Fine. After we finished our entrees and the table was cleared, a different server came to the table and asked us if we were interested in dessert? UGH. I told him that I had pre-ordered something and that he should check with the kitchen. The "special dessert" was this tiny, anemic looking dessert that looked so pathetic!! It was SO disappointing and I was really not happy. Honestly, it was embarrassing.
Gaonnuri's allure is supposedly the view (despite asking for a window table overlooking the Empire State Building, they gave a window table that faced the other direction!). The food was good, but there are better Korean restaurants that are less expensive. So at least the service could have added to the value of dining there. Nope. Their service was poor and it ruined a very special occasion. What a disappointing experience!!
Gaonnuri is a lovely, refined korean BBQ experience, the service is perfect, and the food is great. My only comment on the food is that the banchan is limited - a couple salads, cucumbers and potato salad. The meat is fantastic and there are a few options for vegetarians or lighter eaters. I think it's a great option to take parents or work dinners. And the view - chef's kiss!
Food was outstanding and your staff very professional. Great overall experience. Your restaurant was the highlight of our visit to NY.
Great atmosphere. Great Food. Great Location. We will definitely go back for dinner.
Our family had our mother’s day celebration and it was overall an amazing experience. Apparently it’s been around for 9 years and I had no idea!! I thought I was pretty well versed in NYC restaurants but i clearly missed this gem! What an amazing view, the friendly service and food, all great. i thought the price was very reasonable.
Thanks for the great time.
Incredible experience. Fantastic food, service and view!
Place looked good but food wasn’t rally tasty
Excellent food and service. Requesting a table by the window is hit and miss unless for 5-5:30.
One of my favorite restaurants. Great food, atmosphere.
10 year anniversary
Food was amazing, servers were cordial and tended to the table in a timely manner... best of all THE VIEW! Loved this place.
The restaurant was very good. So was the food . My only complaint was with the hostess. I had made the reservation for a table by a window. She very quickly informed me that those requests must be made weeks in advance. This was not mentioned on either their internet page or on Open Table. It was one of the servers who got us a table in the lower floor close to the windows. The hostess could not be bothered.
Excellent food, very tasty and very kind staff.
The view is amazing
We asked for a table by the window and it was just perfect
I had a wonderful experience. I came here with my boyfriend for his birthday, and the food and views were spectacular (we ordered the Gaon set and snickers bar). A bit loud but it wasn't too bad.
Everything was good and tasty. We were celebrating my elderly father’s birthday. They don’t have any dessert on the menu. I brought a cake with me. They had the nerve to charge me a cake fee of $5/person for the cake that I brought. We spent over $600 for the 7 of us. It would have been nice if they were more gracious about the cake.
The service was exceptional- from the hosts to the wait staff. All staff were masked and following protocols therefore we felt very comfortable with indoor dinning. The food and cocktails were also very delicious. To top it off- our corner table had an amazing view. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion dinner.
Let’s start with the reservation. We used a round table and managed to get a same-day reservation. Upon arrival there was very little directions on the reservation email on how to enter the building and go up the elevator. We ended up entering the residential entrance and the security guard informed us that there is a separate entrance for the restaurant specifically. I wish there was a little more communication on the reservation email explaining how to enter. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a nice host that brought us to our window-side table with a view of Midtown.
Service was extremely quick every two minutes or so they were checking to see if we were ready to order. Some minor pressure to order the food. I went with the barbecue jumbo white shrimp. I also got the calamari salad. The calamari was excellent I definitely recommend the calamari salad for an appetizer. You can easily feed two or can be a minor entrée for one.
Our server recommended that the shrimp was cooked in the back kitchen. We took his recommendation. Once the shrimp arrived I was surprised with how it was cooked. It was extremely overcooked and DRY. We informed our server and she said she would have to go speak with the manager. We heard nothing for about five minutes and who I assumed was the manager showed up to our table and plopped down raw shrimp and walked away without saying one word to us. I was extremely disappointed with his service which is why I ended up giving it a four star review. Our servers were great but I was extremely surprised by the response of the overcooked shrimp and no communication when the replacement was brought to our table. It was not brought throughout the rest of the meal service, no apology or anything.
For the price of the food I was pleasantly surprised with how many sides came with the barbecue entrées. All around I would say for the price and the view you can’t beat it.
Wonderful experience. Service was on point. Food was delicious. Ambiance was wonderful. Would go again.
As always, great food and experience.
The food was very delicious and the service was outstanding!
Great place, very tasty food, amazing views. The service was good, but there were a bit too attentive. Someone would come to ask if you’re ready to order, we said to give us a couple of minutes (we got there only a few minutes before) and 30 seconds later someone else would come with the same question. Then another one.... during the first 15 minutes we were approached at least 12-15 times by three different people about different things. A bit annoying. Otherwise really nice. Will come back.
Always great! Drinks are exceptional as well.
Loved it! Food was delicious and ambiance was very nice. Will go back!
We had a really lovely night and the view of the skyline was fantastic!
Great food and drinks and the views are top notch.
So lovely! Food was great! Everything was amazing!
Just spectacular. I and my wife was not expecting anything close to the service that we got. I will make sure to visit again whenever I am in New York and to tell all my friends about this wonderful restaurant.
Celebrated a new job with my boyfriend and parents! We had a delightful and fun experience at this restaurant. Food was great, interactive, and the ambiance was lively. 10/10 would go back.
Great food and service. The view is also spectacular.
Love it everything was great, my wife and I celebrated our anniversary
The Food and the view are good but the staff isn’t friendly at all. The background music was not grear
Great views and ambiance!
This is by far worth every penny spent. The ambiance, staff and food was great. I love how certain meals are cooked in front of you even the fact that they added their twist to some of the dishes. My favorite; which is simple was the Shirley temple that I ordered which came with black cherry and black grenadine instead of red. I will be returning to this restaurant and will be recommending.
We did not get a table with a view but had really great time with our friends. Foods were really good and one of our cocktails got replaced at our request while the others were great!
Amazing! Would definitely recommend and go back soon
Simply love Gaonnuri, always delicious and great service. The views are amazing too and a great extra to make a great experience.
They have wonderful view of midtown. May not be the best Korean BBQ for the price, but still a great place to take your friends especially if they are from out of town.
I didn't like my server and the food wasn't that good for the price. but the skyline view was amazing. The appetizer was much better than the entrees and the choices were pretty limited.
For a special occasion this is an excellent place to go. The food was good, although the variety of side dishes was limited. Service was good
Great hospitality with a beautiful view and well executed Korean fare.
