Love this place. Beautiful view and very good quality meat. Get the combo 1 and bimbimbap.
I was not pleased with not getting a window table even though I've called several times to make sure that was on my reservation. When we walked in I was told I was not going to get a window table even tho there were several ones available. I've been told you can't reserve them but clearly they were being held for someone else.
Great pieces of meat!! Good quality.
And cooked for me!
Always excellent food and amazing views too! This is a favorite in the city.
We brought out of town guests here and it was a favorite. Through Open Table, I requested a window-side, BBQ table that gave everyone a lovely view of the skyline. The food was fresh, delicious, varied, and perfect for visitors. Even the deconstructed Snickers bar delighted.
I took my friends from Chicago here not to only enjoy the view (we had a window seat) but the excellent food. Always a pleasure eating here. Our wait staff was attentive and gave us ideas on what to eat and share. Always available and didn't rush us. Excellent meal!
This place must be one of the best-kept secrets in NYC. The view of the city is spectacular. There was prix-fix lunch as well as tasting menu. I ordered the beef short-rib from the prix-fix menu and it was quite a large portion. The atmosphere is very suitable for business meeting.
here's the punch list...
kimchi was bland! What the?!
went for views, but they sat us directly in front of a wall/column.
service was bad-ordered drinks when we sat & they didn't come till the middle of the meal (after i asked for them).
after they gave our food the waiter did not come by 1x to ask if everything is ok or we needed anything else. fine dining??? seems like they have to go back to the basics-service 101
read positive reviews about the cod, ordered it & it was overcooked/ terrible.
Galbi was good but scarce especially for the price. Can get same quality at any of the BBQ places in korea town
Was excited to go and really let down. Now i know why it was so easy to get reservations & the place was mostly empty. I will not be going back, nor recommending it to anyone.
I was a little skeptical at first but was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service, and delicious food. I was wary of the high prices, but found there to be value in the price fixed menu ($55) for a 3 course meal. The black cod was a $5 supplement but was well worth it. To top it off they also had a local craft beer (Singlecut) on draft. I had noted in my opentable reservation that it was our anniversary and they remembered and sent a special dessert out without a reminder. I did request, through opentable, a table along the window and made the reservation somewhat in advance, but when I called today they said they couldn’t accommodate the request but our table was in the second row from the window. It turned out to be very nice as well but if you can, try to get one along the window.
I think the location and views are incredible. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice, perfect for a dinner with friends with whom you can have an intimate conversation. Smart and cozy decoration and tables, perfect light. Everything was tasty, and well balanced to the price. A large menu & wine carte, this one, a little bit expensive in my opinion, compairing to other countries. The service was also very helpful, ideal if you have no idea about Korean food. For me the "worst", the closing time is too early, and it was a pitty for us not to be able to have another drink and enjoy the fantastic night there.
Excellent food and service
I normally love Gaonnuri - the food is just delicious.
However, this week's dinner was unfortunately not a great experience in terms of service.
I have an allium allergy and our main server for dinner was the most unaccommodating and rude person we have come across at a restaurant. When the food arrived all decorated with chives (which we had specifically told him I can not eat) his answer was "well I punched it in to the system I guess the chef couldn't accommodate it." When we pointed out that actually he could easily have omitted the decorative herb being on the meal, he responded exactly the same!
Instead of apologising and looking in to it straight away he had an argumentative attitude and after we told him that we simply couldn't eat the dishes ordered he then reluctantly gave in and took the dishes back to the kitchen.
New ones were brought out by another server who was much much nicer with a much much better attitude. He made up for our experience there that night.
I simply did not expect this kind of service at this restaurant and it tarnished our experience with friends whom we had taken there for the first time. They were so shocked about the first waiter's unaccommodating attitude (he had also told us at the beginning that the restaurant's appetizers were not that great and we should order 3-4 main bbq dishes - but we ignored this advice as actually having been there before I knew that some of the appetizers that's I've tried in the past are just delicious so we ordered them again. He didn't seem too pleased that we hadn't listened to him.. oy vey!).
We all wondered what his response would have been to someone with a serious nut allergy.. oh well you just got eat it or you won't get anything else (never mind the after effect!)
The food is just so good and delicious. The views are spectacular - especially if you are hosting out of towners or clients. They should change the music selection played as it sounds too much like elevator music.
Upscale toned down Korean fare for those who don’t want to be challenged by more spicy, authentic Korean flavors. The place itself is quite sophisticated. The food may frankly be too sophisticated as it takes the ‘Seoul’ out of Korean cuisine.
Not only did the hostess refuse to seat us by the window (half of the reason to come to this place), despite my written request, while the restaurant was half empty for the entirety our dining experience, she made it a point to come back to our table to say that I we made the same reservation the same day and not 2 days ago, even though nobody claimed otherwise. She seemed to argue with herself. Also, the food is OK. Appetizers were overfried and small for the money. They charged $20 for a small plate of dumplings. Entrees were decent and the ice cream dessert was elegegant but small. The waitress was pleasant and responsive.
Excellent restaurant. High quality and always delicious!
Excellent restaurant et vue magnifique de Manhattan du 39 ième étage!
Good food. Beautiful rooftop views. Great value for money. Convenient location.
Really good food and good service. And amazing view of the city.
We have eaten @ Gaonnuri many times & have never been disappointed. The food is consistently very good & the service is never less than highly attentive. Although Korean food is not known to be vegetarian-friendly, we have always found good options & variations of dishes @ Gaonnuri.
Great experience! The staff were attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and the sunset/view was a perfect addition to the evening!
Waitress was not well informed. The food was mediocre. The beef in my dish was tough and fatty. Couldn’t finish the dish and left feeling underfed.
We were celebrating my birthday. We were seated as requested near a window. This was at 5:30- pre theatre. Gin and tonic was exceptional! Far from watered down as is often the case in other establishments. Our first waitress was a little curt, but soon replaced by a very nice young man who took pleasure in explaining the dishes, making recommendations, etc. Duck was exceptional, but steak a little chewy. All the side dishes complimented the meal perfectly. The waiter was very attentive. Surprised me with a lovely plate of sorbet with a candle and happy birthday wish. Nice experience!
Good place with amazing view. Menu diffucult to understand for those not used to eat korean meal.
Everything was perfect- great service, delicious food and amazing views !!!
Visiting NYC from Oregon!
I took my family of 4 for my son's birthday to Gaonnuri.
The gentleman greeted us at the entrance was not that friendly. He later asked my family member, a 72 year old lady, to take her fashion hat off. So please, don't wear hats. The service seems very slow. It took 20 min. for them to take our orders. The table was small for 4 person BBQ.
A few Korean before-meal-dishes were served: potatoes, Kimchi, sweet/sour cabbages and broccoli. My family liked the beef, shrimp and ribs BBQ. My dish Bibimbap ($26) was just soso, and I only ate a few bites. Red wine was $14 each.
The view is impressive. You will see a little bit of everything: Hudson River, sun set, streets, buildings with lights, and very close shot of the Empire State Building. The space has high ceils and is huge yet feels crowded. Our bill was not small, $400 for 4-person.
If you want to impress someone, this is a place to go. But bring a thick wallet with no hat.
Booked in the morning and in the evening we had an amazing city view table for our anniversary. The food was excellent, my first Korean meal and certainly not my last. Staff couldn’t have been nicer, plus they did something special for our anniversary. 5 stars, highly recommended for food, location and staff. One more plus, the views are incredible!!
First time having Korean bbq. Absolutely amazing, great food, helpful staff, truly great experience.
When my wife and I got upstairs we loved the view the restaurant is very cool and a great space. We waited a while before waiter approached us and took our wine order. What we found odd was that they took our bottle of white wine in the back and brought it back in a decanter. The waiter came back around and just asked us if we were ready to order never explained the menu or asked us if we were familiar with how a Korean barbecue restaurant worked. The appetizers were great but we did not realize that someone would constantly at our table moving the food around not giving us a chance to enjoy the food or the ambiance. We also felt like we were being rushed out.
Very nice view but not worth the money at all. The food was fair at best. Not outstanding.
Food was very good but not as authentic as in small restaurants in Koreatown. View was spectacular and for out-of-towners more than compensated for any limitations in food.
The venue is great and the view is just amazing. I would suggest to get a window table because it is definitely worth it. The staff have been wonderful and the food is just the best. Would go back!
Beautiful ambiance ruined by the seating in crying children. Why paid nyc prices to do e out to be exposed to crying and wying kids - bad parents and poor management decisions made for an awful experience.
Super nice restaurant. We had fun around the barbecue.
Although not quite as spectacular as I had expected, this is an attractive restaurant, and the service was very good. The food was good, but not as flavorful as I had anticipated. While nice overall, it was also quite pricey, so I probably wouldn't return.
Poor service, food just ok.
Great location and outstanding staff. Good wine selection
Celebrated my 30th birthday at the restaurant. Could not have wished for more!
