Gannon's Ratings and Reviews
Rude treatment at the hostess stand, terrible table location, very slow service, food that was not great at the price point (greasy fried items that weren’t even hot; overdressed/sauced items on main plate). With all of the other great places to eat on Maui, and in Wailea, we won’t be returning to Gannon’s ever to eat.
The view is spectacular if you arrive by 6:00. Watching the sunset is the best part. The service is spot on and the food is good, although lacking in dessert options compared to many other fine restaurants we’ve visited here. Great dinner options if you’re a lover of seafood.
Absolutely wonderful. We are frequent Maui visitors, and we love Hailemaile General Store. We had never experienced Gannon’s, and we were floored at the quality and deliciousness that was our dinner there. With powerhouses like Mama’s and Merriman’s on island, this could get passed over, BUT IT SHOULDN’T. The food here is on par with those two, and it shouldn’t be missed. 5 stars. Oh, and don’t miss that famous crab dip. That would be a travesty.
Very nice New Year's Eve special buffet, but very heavy on a large amount of different kinds of meats vs a good balance of veggies to go with all that meat & raw seafood. Finally found a large amount of sautéed sugar snap peas and overcooked asparagus in which we ate a lot of. Another winner was a very tick cashew sauce which was very good with the green veggies and fat shrimp. There was also some interesting desserts, but no spoons small enough to eat some of them with especially the cute little champagne flute filled with jelled cider and a single blackberry "floating" in it but could not be drank, but needed a tiny spoon. So did the best tasting dessert - a small round serving of a passion fruit pudding. The waitresses were sweet, friendly and helpful, but it was a busy night which kept them all running even though by the time we were there at 7pm, all the tables were not filled. It was nice that it was ok that we were 15 minutes late plus had a choice of which table for two we preferred.
We chose this restaurant at the last minute instead of going to our original reservation at a different restaurant. We we're not impressed with the food for the price. The appetizer garlic noodles were horrible but the crab dip was good. It probably would taste better with some sort of bread toast instead of corn chips. Short ribs was not bad but it tasted like it came out of a crock pot. Scallop risotto was just not a good dish at all. Scallops were okay, a little charred but the risotto flavor was not tasty. The service made up for the food. We left wishing we kept our original reservation at the other restaurant.
After multiple visits, we were a little disappointed as the chef didn't seem to know how to prepare a medium rare filet mignon. The first attempt was medium and the replacement was slightly too rare. Fortunately it was close enough that we didn't try for a third pass. The mistake was comped with a soup dish while we waited for the entree to return. The second entree was a crusted preparation whole snapper, and it was a bit difficult to strip in order to eat. Won't do that one again. Should have stuck with the tried and true crusted mahi-mahi which is always perfect.
I must say they were quite gracious and the scrumptious desserts were on the house as it was our 17 anniversary.
Still one of our favorite restaurants.
They were able to accommodate a party of thirteen for my son's 21st birthday. Three people at our table are gluten and dairy free and they had many options. My wife and I are vegan and we had less. The chef made my wife a pasta primavera that was very good. The service was excellent and the setting was spectacular. We will go back.
The Christmas buffet was excellent. Lots of choices for my entire family from my picky 6 y/o to my vegan Father. We all thought the food was delicious. The restaurant was surprisingly empty for Christmas dinner though which made it very quiet. When I called to make reservations the hostess made it sound like they were all booked up & tables were limited. When actually there were only 3 other tables of people at 7:15. Our server was lack luster. He didn’t describe the food or drinks at all, he just said “there’s the buffet”. We didn’t get refills of water ever & his attitude was very blah. Wish we would have gotten better service on Christmas dinner, especially considering the price. But the chefs really did a great job. If the food wasn’t so yummy I would have given 2 stars
Hurts to say it but while the scenery and service were wonderful- the food was not. We had the crab dip appetizer and it was fabulous- our fish entrees were not. I had the cashew crusted fish- over cooked and tasteless. My husband had the miso preparation daily catch- also dry and over cooked. We will not go back...
Gannon’s was a real surprise for a restaurant in a golf resort. The location is amazing and a must do for a Maui sunset. The wait staff were both efficient and incredibly personable and the food from local sources outstanding. Definitely one to put on the list for a quiet romantic dinner or dinner with friends.
We've dined at Gannon's on several occasions and it always impresses! The food is spectacular, best happy hour in town (until 8pm), live music a couple nights a week, excellent service, best view of the sunset, lots of free parking. Our favorite dish is the short rib!
We were here a couple of weeks ago and waited 45 minutes even though we had a reservation so I was a little wary about booking a table for their Thanksgiving buffet. The hostess remembered us and greeted us warmly by name and gave us a wonderful table. Dinner was terrific although they ran out of a couple of desserts so the selection was quite limited - we missed the apple pie. Lovely evening.
