Better than average food in a dated setting with lackluster service.
It was our first time at this restaurant. We only chose to make a reservation because of the OpenTable app recommendation. When we walked into an almost empty restaurant we were pleased and expected a warm greeting followed by above average service and attention. I figured they'd be happy to see customers on a slow night. Instead we were admonished for making our reservation via OpenTable instead of calling the restaurant directly since apparently there is a fee to the restaurant when we do this. I found this to be highly inappropriate especially in light of the fact that OpenTable was the reason we ended up there. And to openly chastise me was just out of line.
Our meal was good but not great. Their level of service was apathetic. Our water glasses weren't refilled unless we asked and there was no attempt at being pleasant or polite. They were mainly going through the motions. Too bad as I can tell there's definite talent in the kitchen.
Very good Indian food. Nice and spicy. Delish curries, lamb vindaloo, tikka masala is to die for. This is the second time we have been there and it is just great! Also make sure to make reservations as it's a small place and fills up fast
Very delicious and authentic food. Great service - from making recommendations to making sure we had everything we needed...just great!
Gangadin is a beautiful little family run restaurant with great food and wonderful service. It has a nice atmosphere while still being casual and comfortable.
A small, local and crowded Indian restaurant with a strong following. The owner is very interesting and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent. We loved this place and will definitely return.
The best Indian restaurant in Los Angeles! Love the Reshmi chicken and Lamb Korma. All the food is beautifully prepared and delicious!!!
The best Indian restaurant bar none. As a New Yorker, i am used to good Indian food but this is the best ever.
Gangadin has been generally good for many years. This last time, however, the food, and in particular the tandoori chicken, was fair at best. The service has never been great, but this last time it also worse than usual. I think the restaurant has been expanding it's take out business to point that it is negatively impacting the food and service for people who dine in. I hope things improve.
I don't get my points after dining here like it is supposed to on the opentable booking system! Why? This is a fault advertise!!
I finally got my points after a few days!
The food was only okay. For my money Taj Mahal in Encino is far superior with regard to the food. Ambiance was better in Gangatin but all else was equal except for the food which is, of course, most important. I recommend Taj Mahal for its excellent food.
This place is always fabulous. It never disappoints, ever!
The best Indian food in Los Angeles!! Love the Reshmi Chicken and all lamb dishes.
Gangadin is a family favorite. We love the food, we love the family atmosphere, we love the personal attention. A must visit in Studio City.
Don't miss the peshwari nan --bread stuffed with dried fruit--delicious. Ditto the potato samosas. Actually everything was great
For decades this unpretentious family-owned Indian eatery has provided customers with fine food in friendly surroundings at a very fair price. The lamb chops and fish tikka are especially good but everything is quite tasty.
Delicious dishes and friendly family to serve you. Well done!
Fabulous food, service, and nice ambience.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food. Love this place. Homey. Owner and his kids are always around. Their suggestions are always spot on. Parking is not the greatest but it's LA.
This is a family run business. Everyone makes you feel welcome. There is great attention to detail at each table. The food is excellent!
Excellent Indian food and great explanation of all of the health benefits from all of the various spices used in their dishes. Service was excellent and friendly. Would definitely go back!
We have been here several times, and each time is such an enjoyable experience. The food is delicious, and the service is impeccable. If the owner is there, he goes to each table to have a little chit chat. He's a delightfully friendly fellow. Parking is on the street, and the servers make sure you understand that you must feed the parking meter until 8:00. But there are no parking meter worries on Sunday, plus you might get a little fruit treat at the end of your meal , courtesy of the fruit vendors from the farmer's market that inhabits the street earlier in the day. So go on a Sunday!
Good quality ingredients with attentive service.
Owner is very engaging and involved in details of your experience which is very unusual.
Being a transplanted New Yorker, I am very fussy about food. This is by far the best Indian food I have ever eaten.
The service is wonderful. Everyone in this family - owned restaurant is courteous, friendly, and professional.
This is a place you go back to again and again.
We have been here twice and the service has always been top notch...and the food even better!! The menu is varied and there is something for everyone - meat eaters and vegetarians...each equally tasty! Next up for me is the curry...now the question is chicken or vegetable? Maybe both!
Amazing food. Going back soon.
Absolutely wonderful Indian food with a personal touch of perfect service
My husband and Iove Indian food, we tried a few in our area but gangadin is the best !
Small, nice, good service, best food !
I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. It is by far the best Indian restaurant anywhere. That is a big compliment coming from a transplanted New Yorker.
The food was great and so was the service. The ambiance is very casual and we are glad we went to this place when I was craving Indian food. The owner is super friendly and the variety of food is definitely a plus! It was my first time trying Indian beer and man, it's good!
We've been coming here for years, and I can tell you that this is the best Indian food in the Valley. The dishes are all excellent, and they make the degree of hotness in the curries to your desire. Very friendly people and a well run restaurant make this a winner!
Gangadin is our go-to for delivery, but dining in the restaurant is so much better! The food comes out hot, the meat tender, the rice fluffy - and everything made with the exact heat that you specify. The owner and his kids are delightful and always entertaining!
Excellent food, great service. Usually, in an Indian restaurant, when you ask for mild, you get spicy. These people actually listened, so even my little girl enjoyed her food which was indeed mild. Will definitely go back
We've gone to Gangadin over the years, ever since they opened - and seem to have "rediscovered" it and have taken some friends a lot recently. The service is impeccable, and the food is wonderful! A definite "neighborhood gem" - and one worth traveling to, as well.
I have been to Gangadin many times. It is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant around... We were here for a friends annual "birthday curry" - first time celebrating it at Ganagdin, and could not have been happier. The food was terrific. Service was great. We ate ourselves to the brim and still had food left over. The owner, Manmeet, is always a gracious, welcoming host and spends a lot of time chatting and laughing with his customers. Customer service generally lacks in restaurants these days, so his friendliness surely enhances the dining experience and makes you feel "at home". For locals, Gangadin has a booth at the Studio City Sunday Farmers Market on Ventura Place. You can get a combo plate of delicious food, samosas, sauces, etc, to take home. Amazing. I've read all the reviews on Yelp! The good and the bad - don't let the haters from YEARS ago sway you - go to Ganagadin & enjoy a terrific dining experience and equally delicious food. In this day and age of strip malls, chain restaurants (serving gluttonous portions), and robotic service, you can feel good that by visiting Ganagadin you are supporting a local, family owned business, that takes pride in serving and getting to know their community.
Our favorite family run Indian Restaurant....always the best!
We have been coming here for years. Great food. Family owned!
The food is really great. They even have a section of the menu for vegans. I love the food here. The people serving you are extremely friendly. Here's my issue...I made a Friday 7:30pm reservation. I get there and no one comes to the front for over 20 minutes---not even to say, "hi." I finally call them on my phone to see if someone will be coming to the front---restaurant was packed and I couldn't make my way to the back politely. Finally, I speak to someone and let them know I have a 7:30pm reservation for 4 people. They then tell me that they don't honor reservations on Friday nights. Uhm, why are they on Open Table and why did it let me make a reservation?? We end up waiting 20 more minutes. It was RIDICULOUS. I would only go here for lunch when it's not as crowded. It's not even worth trying in the evenings.
Gangadin is the best of both worlds - the food and the people who prepare it. I've always felt like I've stepped into a foreign land and into the family's kitchen. The family that runs this fine Indian/vegans too - restaurant create an atmosphere for couples, groups and families. I am always greeted with a warm hug and any guest I have gets the same warm greeting I got when first going here 15 years ago. Run, don't walk to this restaurant and savor the differences in our cultures.
We have been coming here for years because it's simply the best. The family that owns it has had it for 31 years for many reasons. The flavors are simply complicated perfection. Each bite is a snyphony in your mouth. All our friends, family, neighbors and coworkers agree that this is the most delicious food of its kind. The hot garlic naan with the lamb korma and vegetable Briyanni is my favorite combo. We usually order a couple different entrees and share since everything is fantastic!
We made our choice to go to Ganga Din because it was conveniently located. Our meal was very nice and the owner and the wait staff were delightful. We all agreed that we would like to go back sometime soon.
